WBBA UNVEILS DIAMOND OF HONOR - WALL OF FAME; NAMES 2011 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

On Thursday, June 23, 2011, the West Bend Baseball Association unveiled its Diamond of Honor - Wall of Fame and named the 2011 Scholarship Winners at a gala event at Carl M. Kuss Memorial Baseball Field.

Although the day was grey and rainy, spirits were bright as the inaugural class of the Wall of Fame were inducted, which finally brought to realization a West Bend Baseball Hall of Fame which has been a dream for more than three decades.

The inaugural class of 2011 includes 9 West Bend baseball luminaries:  Carl S. Pick, Carl M. Kuss, Willie Mueller, Sr., Willie Mueller, Jr., Tom Fischer, Sr., Gary Perkins, Jim Cahoon, Doug Gonring, and Charles "Chuck" Schroeder.

The Master of Ceremonies was Mike Staral, a WBBA Board member.  The ceremony included a tribute to Carl M. Kuss by Paul Ziegler, Co-Chairman of the 1985-87 Carl M. Kuss Memorial Committee; the presentation address by John Rozek, President of the West Bend Baseball Association; the City of West Bend acceptance by Craig Hoeppner, Director of Park, Recreation and Forestry Dept., and the unveiling of the Wall of Fame by Prudence Pick Hway, granddaughter of Carl S. Pick, and Terry Kuss, the youngest son of Carl M. Kuss.

The WBBA also awarded its annual scholarships.  The 2011 honorees are Alec Steinmetz (West Bend East) and Davis Yach (West Bend West).  The 2011 scholarship honorees and 2008 Scholarship Winner, Matt Meisenheimer, unveiled the Scholarship Winner wall.

Members of the families and many from the community attended the event.
