The 2011 Little League Major Boys Section 1 Double Elimination Tournament was held in Wayne, NJ and played on the John "Chick" Choka field. Five Districts were represented by their respective District Champs: Jefferson, Paramus, Mendham, Basking Ridge and West Milford. After almost a week of games it boiled down to Paramus and Mendham. Paramus having lost once before to Mendham needed to win twice for the title and completed that task on Sunday. Winning the Section 1 Title gives them the opportunity to advance to the State level which is being held in Monroe Township starting July 29th.
Governor Christie a resident of Mendham was on hand both Saturday and Sunday to root for his home town boys. The Governor was low key and didn't want to take any focus away from the tournament or the great play from both teams. Although he did talk to all those who approached him he did not want to be announced or accorded any pomp or circumstance. He did speak with John "Chick" Choka, President of Wayne Little League for over 50 years and was kind enough to take a picture (supplied by Tim Crowe) with him under the sign that bears his name dedicating the field.
