Category: Strengthening
Type: Drill

'JORDANS'

Usually this drill is done at the end of practice for one last exertion or as punishment for being late, dropping balls, etc.

At the sound of the whistle, players lunge straight up out of the water as high as they can while bringing their arms out of the water and holding them straight above their heads. The point of this drill is to achieve 'hang time.' Players should attempt to hold their bodies above the water by eggbeating as fast as they can, holding arms straight up in the air and descending as slowly as possible. The whistle is blown again to signify the end of the 'Jordan' and to let the players lower their arms and reset. Each 'Air Jordan' takes about 5 seconds and a set of 10 should take about 2 minutes.

Players can envision jumping for a high pass or giving their teammates as large of a passing target as possible. This drill is tiring but is very applicable to a real game situation.
