CROSS BODY CATCH

In one of our more recent tips, a “cross body catch” was mentioned for field players receiving a dry pass from the offensive set up against a relaxed defense. This tip will discuss what exactly a “cross body catch” is and how to do it.
The cross body catch is receiving a pass from your week (a right handed player getting a pass from his/her left side). If you want to receive a cross body catch, put your hand about one foot (for adults) in front of your face and just above your head. This is where the ball is going. The passing player is going to pass the ball to the hand of the player that is out of the water. The receiving player is not going to be facing the passing player. In a game situation, the passing player will have their chest pointed toward the receiving player. The receiving player will have their chest pointed toward the goal. When the ball arrives, the receiving player will let their arm and body recoil with the shot to bring it behind them, away from the defender.
This is a difficult catch, and should probably be well practiced prior to using it in a game situation. Lots of hand, eye, and body coordination is involved to pull off a good cross body pass. However, it is very useful. Because of it’s difficulty, players and goalies will not defend that pass as hard because with little experience there is little to no chance at getting a shot off.
Take this one catch to the bank, because if you could pull it off, the shot to follow will catch everyone off guard. Just aim for a corner.
That is all for now. Stay tuned for more tips on the game we all play and love. Play hard and shoot for the corners.
