Water Polo
Category: Shooting
Type: Drill
Equipment: Three water polo balls, one goal

RAPID FIRE

Place four players near the side of the pool at the 2 meter, 4 meter, 7 meter, and 9 meter marks, with 1 ball each. The rest of the team is to make one line at the center of mid-pool.

The first person in line begins to swim head-up freestyle to about the 9 meter mark, receive a pass from the team mate at the side of the pool at the 9 meter mark, and shoot. Immediately after the shot, the shooter is to begin swimming again. When he/she reaches the 7 meter mark, they are to pop up, receive a pass from the team mate near the side of the pool on the 7 meter mark, and shoot again. Immediately after the shot, the shooter is to begin swimming again. At the 4 meter mark they are to pop up, receive a pass from the player on the 4 meter mark near the pool side, and take another shot. Immediately following the shot, the shooter continues to swim, receiving a wet pass immediately from the player near the side of the pool on the 2 meter mark. The shooter then is to take a wet shot to finish his/her round.

All in all, the shooter will have taken 4 shots on goal (3 dry and 1 wet). When the round is finished, return one ball to each of the passing positions, and the shooter then becomes the 2 meter mark passer, everyone else rotates up one position, with the 9 meter mark passer going to the end of the shooter line at the center of mid-pool. If a goalie is incorporated into the drill, the goal is to make the block and recover as fast as possible to stop the next shot. Shooters are to aim for the corners of the goal on each of their shots, avoiding the use of "skip-shots."
