Water Polo
Category: Shooting
Type: Drill
Equipment: One water polo ball, one goal

5-ALIVE

This is a shooting game. It begins with one player in the goal, and the rest of the players at the middle of the 7 meter line. There is only one ball to be used during the game.

The person in the front of the line shoots the ball to trying to score. If the goalie blocks it, the shooter has to sprint to the goal, the goalie has to recover the shot and pass it to the next person in line at the 7 meter mark. The new shooter, who just received the pass, is to take a direct shot on goal, not necessarily waiting for the new goalie to be ready. The initial goalie then goes to the back of the line. If the shooter scores, the current goalie has to stay in the goal, and now has 1 point against him. The shooter goes to the back of the line, and the ball goes to the next shooter at the 7 meter mark. That shooter must wait for the goalie to be ready before he/she shoots. Once a player has received 5 points against him/her, they are out of the game. There is no pump faking on a shot. A shot from the 7 meter mark is to be done in one fluid motion. If the shooter pump fakes, or drops the ball during the wind up for his/her shot, they then become the goalie.

The object of the game is to be the last person remaining. Shooters are to aim for the corners, and goalies are to block shots and make clean passes. For coaches, this is a good way to find a back-up goalie, if one does not already exist. It is also a good way to delegate clean up duties for your team on that day. The number of points can be changed if the coach chooses.
