THE TEE-SHOT

The Tee-shot is one of the more difficult shots to pull off. Begin by swimming with the ball. About two or three meters away from the goal is where I recommend you take the shot. In one motion while still swimming, pick the ball up from the bottom with your non-shooting hand (this tees the ball up for the shot) and while the other arm rotates through the stroke, push the ball off the non-shooting hand in the direction.
Your fingers on your shooting hand should be pointing to the sides of the pool, not the roof, to allow for direction control of the shot. Do not toss the ball up in the air and swat it out of the air (there is no control doing that).
From the goalie perspective, this is a complete surprise shot, leaving the goalie nearly no time to react to the shot. The Tee-Shot is an all or none shot. Once committed to the shot, there is no turning back. To set this up as a team drill, start with the entire team at around min-pool. The first person in line begins to swim toward the goal. The next person in line gives a wet pass over the shoulder of the swimmer at around the 7 meter line. From there, perform the Tee-shot as described above. Add a goalie after the players have gotten the hang of the shot.
