GOALIE VERTICAL KICKS

This drill is geared toward goalies, but it is effective for the hole man position as well. Begin with a group of no less than 3 people, spaced 1 to 2 feet apart. Each person in the group has a ball.
The drill begins with all of the players doing their vertical kick, holding the ball with both hands above their head. In a clockwise rotation, move the ball around the group, taking the ball from two hands to your left hand and handing the ball the person to your left. At the same time, receive a ball from the person on your right with your right hand. After receiving the ball from the person on the right, bring it above your head and change it over to your left hand, and hand the ball off to the person to the left again. Continue this, only changing direction on the coaches command.
The goal is to keep at least the upper torso out of the water and never drop the ball for the duration of the drill. The ball movement should be at approximately half-second intervals, never letting the ball get to head level. Start the drill time at 60 seconds and increase the time as the drill becomes easier for the players.
