New State Cuts and Records Earned at Carthage College Meet
The LOO coaching staff was very impressed with the quality of swimming a week ago, but the swimmers came out this weekend with even more speed. The LOO swim team traveled to Carthage College in Kenosha for a Saturday and Sunday meet. Even though fewer swimmers competed this past weekend, the excitement and progress was as good if not better than the 3rd place team finish in Fort Atkinson. When asked about her impressions of the meet, Coach Weber responded by simply saying, “Wow! It is difficult to think of anyone that did not swim a record, a state cut time, at least one best time or swim an event that they have never swam before. Each swimmer brought something new this weekend and came up a winner in some way. “There were many swimmers that swam to new state cut times this weekend. Dylan Grimsled and Madeline Mosher made it two weekends in a row with new cuts. Dylan added the 100 yard freestyle to his list and Madeline Mosher added the 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard breaststroke, the 100 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. Jimmy Forman swam the 100 yard breaststroke in state qualifying time to give him his second state cut.Records also went down faster than the recent gas price plunge. Claire Mosher broke the 8&Under 25 yard backstroke, 25 yard freestyle and the 50 yard backstroke marks, and improved upon the 500 yard freestyle record which she established last year. Madeline Mosher broke a couple records herself in the 100 yard and the 500 yard freestyle events. Finishing off the record breaking performances was Grimsled in the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard butterfly events. “I was also really proud of a few of our swimmers for stepping out of their comfort zone and trying some new events. Megan Springer, Evan Holzhueter, and Olivia Butzine all swam longer distances in events this weekend that they have never attempted. They did a great job,” commented Coach Weber. She continued, “We had a few of our high school swimmers competing this weekend after only 3 weeks in the pool and in only their second meet of the year, but their times in most cases were better than last weekend. They are showing great progress in a short period of time.”Finally, almost every swimmer had at least one best time, but there were some swimmers that had best times in every one of their events. Those swimmers were Tristin Duessler, Jimmy Forman, and Greta Yahn. LOO will take some well deserved time off from competition over the holiday weekend. They will compete in the Holiday Splash in Middleton on the first weekend of December. For complete results from the weekend meet, please go to www.waterlooswimclub.com

LOO Earns 3rd Place Trophy at Fort Fall Frenzy
To say this past weekend’s swim meet was a success would be a complete understatement. The LOO swim team traveled to Fort Atkinson for the annual Fall Frenzy which features a rare team competition in a primarily individual sport. They were one of twelve teams in a full day of competition and the hard work of the team was rewarded with a third place finish. The morning session consisted of swimmers 11 years old and over. It was a morning filled with many best times and multiple records. The Senior Boys relay started off the morning with a record breaking 200 yard Medley Relay. David Metzgar, Dylan Grimsled, Joey Forman, and Ryan Fritsch shattered the old record by more than eight seconds. Coach Erin Weber stated, “All of the kids swam really, really well today. It did not matter if it was a relay or an individual event. Each swimmer kept coming out of the pool with faster times. There were so many heat winners and best times, it was difficult to keep track of.” Swimmers that Weber mentioned specifically were Cassandra Hollatz, Alexis Filter, Dylan Grimsled, Madeline Miller, and Evan Pratt. “Many of these kids have not yet had a great meet, but they had that today. The amount of time taken off was fantastic.”The morning session progressed with another record broken, this time by Dylan Grimsled. His 200 yard Breaststroke was not only a new club record, his 2nd of the year, but it was also his first state cut of the year. He was also part of the final record which was broken in the early going. The Senior Boys relay also took the previous record for the 200 yard Freestyle Relay down which put an exclamation point on the morning session. The team overall was in 4th place by the time the morning swimmers were out of the pool. In came the ten year old and under swimmers which for LOO is a very large group of kids. Once again, the afternoon started off with a bang as the 8 and under girls and the 10 and under girls both won their Medley relays. Those teams consisted of Cassidy Carey, Gretta Yahn, Laura Farwell and Claire Mosher for the 8 and under girls and Lexi Kolb, Alexis Duessler, Madeline Mosher and Cassidy Mattson for the 10 and under girls. Coach Weber commented on the performance of her younger swimmers. “So many of the new swimmers look much more comfortable in the pool, and many of them are trying new distances. While they are not all yet swimming legal strokes, there are many improvements and we will continue to work hard on getting it all put together.”Three more state cut times were achieved in the afternoon. Madeline Mosher swam state times in both the 50 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Individual Medley. Lexi Kolb also achieved a state cut, her first ever, in the 50 yard Backstroke. Coach Weber also commented on four swimmers in particular that had an outstanding afternoon of swimming. They were Lexi Kolb, Alexis Duessler, Brooke Mosher and David Miller. “The last couple of weeks have been getting more and more difficult in practice and we have been asking them to work harder. They definitely have been doing that and it is starting to pay off in the pool. Four state cuts in a meet this early in the season says a lot to their hard work. We are excited to see what more can happen.” The day ended with two more 1st place finishes for the two sets of Girls relays, but this time in the Freestyle Relays. The 8 and Under swimmers were Kaitlyn Filter, Laura Farwell, Gretta Yahn and Claire Mosher while the 10 and Under team was the same as the first relay. There were also many swimmers who took home individual first place honors and they included: Laura Farwell, Claire Mosher, Cassidy Carey, Madeline Mosher and Dylan Grimsled.“It was a fantastic day and all the kids did a really great job. To take 3rd place in a meet of this size with over 350 swimmers is fantastic. I was really impressed. We still have more work to do, but the kids are looking really good.”
LOO will be heading down to Carthage College in Kenosha next weekend to swim a two day meet with a new set of teams that they have not competed against much this year.
