Flenory Impressive Early at UCC
Former Elizabeth Minuteman, Will Flenory has really impressed the Union County College coaching staff in preseason workouts. The 2008 Second Team All Union County/Watchung Conference swingman has done nothing short of dominating the competition in individual workouts. "I recruited Will for the past 12 months and we are elated that he chose to attend UCC," said 5th year Head Coach Joe Scott, who's team finished 16-15 last season. "The first time I saw him play, I knew he was special."
The 6'2" Flenory average 14 points and 5 assists for Elizabeth, scoring his career high of 33 points vs. a tough Union High School team. "Right now, he might be the best pure shooter on our team as a freshman," said Assistant Coach Bill Diamond. "Not only does he shoot it well, but he's has a tremendous work ethic and works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the court. He's quiet and not flashy. Just goes about his business. I think we're going to call him our 'Silent Assassin! He's a very mature young man for his age and the way he's progressing now, the skies the limit for him once he completes his two years at UCC!"
Assistant Coach DeShawn Charles, a gradute of Union High School and UCC, and a member of the UCC Sports Hall of Fame and an Assistant at UCC for the past seven years adds, "he's got the whole package. He very athletic and loves to play defense. What do you expect, he played in the best conference in the state!"
Flenory, the winner of the 2008 Watchung Conference vs. MVC Conference Slam Dunk Contest is majoring in Sports Management. UCC will be participating in the JUCO Jamboree at St. Peter's College in Jersey City on Sunday, October 26th, which will include Division I, II and III Junior Colleges from the entire northeast. Union County College opens on November 15th at home in Cranford vs. Lehigh Carbon.
