Beecher Community Park - Field #1
Benedictine College
Helfaer Field It's Miller Park's "mini-me." Helfaer Field, the beautiful youth baseball and softball facility built in the shadow of the Brewers' Major League home and on the exact site of old County Stadium, is one of the nation's premier sites for kids to play ball. "It's like Disneyland -- this is the Disneyland of ballparks," said Tom Hicks, head coach of the Brookfield Park and Recreation Twins, one of the first teams to play at Helfaer Field. The $3.1 million facility was funded by a $2 million grant from the Evan and Marion Helfaer Foundation and an additional $1.1 million from the Miller Park infrastructure budget. It was designed by Milwaukee-based Eppstein-Uhen Architects and built by Hunzinger Construction, the same company that built County Stadium in the early 1950s and contributed to the construction of Miller Park. The Evan and Marion Helfaer Foundation was founded on February 2, 1974 and is dedicated to charitable, religious and educational purposes in Wisconsin and the greater Milwaukee area. Mr. Helfaer was also an original investor in the Brewers. Helfaer Field is the centerpiece of the "park within a park" concept envisioned early in the Miller Park construction process. Just off the concourse down the third base line, fans can visit a memorial to the 192 men who played for the Milwaukee Braves from 1953-1965. A few steps away, the exact site of home plate at County Stadium is marked. And over the outfield wall sits a monument to Miller Park construction workers, a pair of bronze statues of Hall of Famers Aaron and Yount and a series of tributes to other Brewers greats. Featuring 502 bleacher seats and additional concourse seating of 220, Helfaer Field is the premier location for youth baseball and girls softball in Milwaukee. The fences reach 200 feet with walls at six foot heights with the exception of left field where the wall is nine feet. Helfaer Field is a smoke-free facility.
