2013 - 2014 Emass Division 2 Boys Basketball Preview
New Mission coach Cory McCarthy relishes playing the we-get-no-respect card. It might not be wise to overlook his Titans this year. New Mission figures to be one of the early favorites in Division 2 North as guards Shaq Murray and Randy Glenn are back as well as forward Fred Rivers and Asante Sandiford, a 6-foot-4 transfer who recently committed to Franklin Pierce. The Titans will get a run from defending state champion Brighton, which returns center Jason Jones, forward Damani Carter and guard Mark Mojica. Look for the Middlesex League to have a say in trying to disrupt the Boston City League monopoly. Belmont opened the season with a one-sided win over Watertown and should be led by guards Keith Burns and Matt Kerins along with Adam Kleckner. Burlington, which took Brighton to the wire in the state tournament last year, returns Shane Farley, Mickey Lyons and Christien Mornweck. Speaking of injuries, defending Div. 3 state champion Danvers moves up to Div. 2, but will do so without its leading returnee, senior Vin Clifford, who tore his ACL over the summer. Junior center Peter Merry and senior forward Kieran Beck are expected to pick up the slack. Perhaps the best backcourt in Div. 2 South belongs to Sharon, which returns All-Scholastic Brian Mukasa and James Fritzson.
