2013 - 2014 Emass Division 1 Boys Basketball Preview
The Mansfield team you will see in December is not the team you should expect to see in March. That’s not a comforting though for the rest of the state. The Hornets will open the season with All-Scholastic forward Brendan Hill (knee) and shooting guard Mike Hershman (sports hernia) on the sidelines, though both are expected to return at some point. Don’t expect to see a total collapse as Mansfield returns several other key components from a team which made it to state finals including point guard Rocky DeAndrade and forwards Ryan Boulter, Michael Boen and Kevin Conner. Catholic Memorial could have the deepest collection of guards in the state as point guard Aamahne Santos returned to CM after spending some time in the prep waters. He is joined in the backcourt by high-scoring Guilien Smith, Denis Tobin, Kellen Grady and Brandon Twitty. John Dullea takes over for Sean Connolly at St. John’s Prep and he inherits a team capable of doing damage. Ben Judson is one of the better swingmen in the area, while center Max Butterbrodt and guard Max Burt will provide solid minutes. The Eagles got a big break when junior point guard Kareem Davis transferred in from Lowell. Everett advanced to the sectional semifinals and return two of its leading scorers from last year in guard Timmance McKinney and forward Gary Clark.
