Williams Named NE-10 Player of the Week
Akeem Williams, a sophomore from Brockton, Mass. (Avon H.S./Winchendon School), was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week after leading the UMass Lowell men’s basketball team to pivotal wins over Bentley (57-55) and Philadelphia University (92-68) last week.Williams compiled averages of 19.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting .654 from the field (17 for 26) and .400 from 3-point range (4-10). He opened the week with 25 points and four rebounds while converting 11 of 16 field goal attempts in the win at Bentley.Williams followed with 14 points and three assists while hitting 6 of 10 field goals in the win over Philadelphia.“Obviously, Akeem is a terrific scorer, but to be shooting 62 percent at his size is incredible,” said head coach Greg Herenda. “What makes me truly happy is just how hard he is defending. Akeem has come a long way in less than a year and a half.”For the season, Williams has averages of 23.0 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting .621 from the floor (36-58), .429 from 3-point range (9-21) and .846 from the free throw line (11-13).UMass Lowell is currently ranked No. 23 in the latest NABC Division II Poll.
