Many local teams defended their home turf on Saturday as a variety of programs from New England advanced into the gold bracket.  Here is a look at the teams that advanced in the 17 and under division.

Boston Warriors – Not only did the Warriors win their pool, but they won their first game in the gold bracket before an unlucky end to their run.  With the game already in overtime and the score tied, the Warriors were called for a phantom foul that cost them a trip to the quarterfinals.  Akeem Williams continued to be a consistent scorer as he went for 22 points in their last game, while Nicco Demasco was very active in the paint and on the boards.

In the late, late game on Friday night outworked a very skilled GSF Tigers team. Akeem Williams and Peter Lynch lead the team in scoring while Mike Ennis and Anthony Paolillo held down the defensive end.  In the last pool game, the Warriors moved out to an early lead and easily defeated the NJ Trailblazers. Akeem again lead all scorers with Mike Campbell and Brendan Farley have strong offensive games.

After winning the pool, the team advanced to the gold bracket to play against a Upstate NY Basketball Club on the Friars Main Court. After trailing most of the game,  the Warriors finally stepped on defense with Peter Lynch taking a huge offensive foul and tied the game with 2 minutes left.  After trading on free throw, the Warriors played for the last shot and Akeem high a 20 foot fall away as time expired to take the win.

In the quarterfinal game versus the Delaware Sharpshooters,  the Warriors took and early lead and controlled the game up until the last 5 minutes when injuries and foul trouble caught up to the team.  The Sharpshooters made a big run to tie the game with less than a minute to play. At this point both team buckled down and forced overtime.  In overtime with the combination of fatigue and tough defense,  the score as tied with 3 seconds remaining. On the throw-in , the shooter took a 20 foot lean in jump shot that was off but the referee called a questionable foul as time expired to eliminite the Warriors. In the last 2 games, Drew Papas & Scott Anderson brought the intesity needed to keep the team in the games as well as Kyle Curry and Nicco Demasco added all the intangables that the all good teams need.
