Week 1 Roundup: 12/9 - 12/15 Grand Opening for Coach Boen
Grand opening for new basketball coach
By Elias Cox, Enterprise correspondent BROCKTON—

It didn't take long for Brockton's Robert Boen to get his first win as the boys basketball team's head coach. It wasn't only an early win, though; it was also a convincing one. The Boxers barely broke a sweat in the game as they demolished the Bridgewater-Raynham Trojans, 95-72, Tuesday night in their first contest of the season. The Trojans scored the first points of the game and went up, 2-0. That was the only time they led as Brockton went on a 13-4 run to quickly take the commanding lead it never let go. In fact, it was quickness that posed the biggest problem for B-R. “I haven't seen such quickness in a team in many, many years,” Trojans head coach Larry Fisher said. “I thought our kids handled the pressure. I thought we improved as the game went on, and I'm very optimistic about the season and the way the kids played tonight. They played very hard.” Kyle Gerry had his first of several steals and took it to the basket for two of his team-leading 19 points. Gary St. Cyr also showed a little of what was to come as he had his first offensive rebound and put-back, something he did regularly in the game. Gerry especially had a great game for the Boxers, and the 5-foot-10 senior's play didn't surprise Boen. “Kyle Gerry's a very aggressive player, offensively and defensively,” he said. “He's very, very impressive, and he really knows how to get to the ball.” Gerry wasn't the only impressive player in the game. Jordan Wiggins, one of only three returning players for the Trojans, had over half of B-R's points with 40 on the night.

Zebra's Win Home Opener, split first 2  Middlesex evened its record at 1-1 with an emotionally charged 49-48 win over a senior-laden BB&N team.  The first half was an absolute battle, with each team struggling to hold the momentum and take control of the game. With under 10 seconds on the clock, Scott Anderson made a free throw to bring the team within on point of BB&N. Anderson missed the second free throw, but the rebound was snatched by Rod Odom who calmly put the ball in the hoop to give Middlesex a 49-48 win.  Anderson finished the game with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Odom put up 10 points 3 assists and 2 blocks. In the season opener, Middlesex lost a heartbreaker to The Governor’s Academy 59-55. Despite the disappointment of the loss, the team showed many positive signs. David Lawson and Nick Holmes  did a great job defensively on Governor’s star player. Scott Anderson led the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds and Rod Odom ‘10 also shined with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
