The Groton basketball team played exactly even with Milton Academy for two halves and three extra periods, only to lose a heartbreaker, 88-85, in the fourth overtime. Groton, missing two starters out with the flu, was lead by Andrew Daigeault with 42 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Groton 71 Concord Academy 40
Groton moved out to a 33-12 lead and never looked back, winning by the final score of 71-40. Andrew Daigneault lead the Zebras with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Tom Raymen returned from illness to score 13 points.

Opening night at McNeice Pavilion was a success as far as BC High is concerned.
The third-ranked Eagles began defense of their Division 1 state title by defeating Brockton, 71-57. The win marked the fourth straight for BC High over the Boxers. The inside game came as advertised. BU-bound Jake O’Brien did his damage both inside and outside, finishing with 24 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shot. Ryan Sharry stepped into Andrew Yanulis’ spot and also picked up a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Kyle Gerry led the way for the Boxers with 22 points, while Jarrod DeVaughn added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Waltham 60, Medford 39: Opening Drive
Junior Viondy Merisma had a strong game - especially in the second half defensively - with 11 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks on the night.
Junior point guard Benyam Kerman scored 16 points - 12 in the third quarter - and senior forward Jesse Brackett added nine, while senior center Andrew Tolman chipped in with 11 rebounds. The Raiders also forced 20 turnovers in improving to 3-0 to begin their title defense.
``Those three (Kerman and the Stockmals) are just such a dynamic trio,'' said Harrington. ``They cause havoc on the ball defensively, they can make shots, they know how to play the game, they know how to rotate the right way defensively. Combine them with Brackett and his quickness and Tolman on the boards, we have a terrific defensive team.''For Burlington senior guard Kyle Pierce registered 18 points and 6 assists and Brendan Farley, a junior forward, contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.

“The 27-6 start definitely helped tonight,” said Duquette. “When you have a Mike Campbell out there, that's a good start. He's a heck of a player.”Freshman Tommy Culbert was one of those players off the bench and he finished with 14 points, mostly from the outside. “He's a pure shooter,” said Duquette. “He can play. I'm really looking forward to watching him develop this year. I'm excited about him.”
Classical rallies against Lugo, Salem
The Classical boys basketball team found itself in an unusual spot this season on Monday -- trailing at the half against Salem. The Rams (3-0) held a 57-56 lead with 30 seconds left when Jasper Grassa hit two free throws to make it a 3-point game. Salem went for the tie on the next possession and missed. Cam Smith (12 points) was fouled on the rebound and made 1-of-2 shots to extend the lead to 60-56.
Salem again went looking for a long-range bomb but came up empty. Off the rebound, Quivari Jackson snuck behind the defense for an easy layup that closed the game out.
Jarell Byrd led all scorers in the game with 23 points and 16 rebounds for the Rams. Jackson finished with 12 points, along with Smith.
Winthrop 78, Danvers 49
At Winthrop, the Vikings (3-0) led by only four after one quarter before outscoring Danvers 44-24 in the second and third quarters to pull away. Mark Jenkins led the Vikings with 12 points. Dino Mallios, Jonathan Murdock and Robert Swanson had 11 points each.
Bedford 65 Concord-Carlisle 49
Senior forward Terrance Favors scored 18 points to lead Bedford (1-1) to a Dual County League victory against Concord-Carlisle. Josh Kalendarian added 11 points for the Buccaneers and Jerry Cohen tallied another 13 points. The Buccaneers led 30-15 at halftime. Eric Beaulieu and Matt Cheever netted 10 points apiece for the Patriots (1-2).
Boston Latin 65 Acton-Boxboro 59
Andre Tongo had 25 points and 4 rebounds for Acton-Boxboro, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Dual County League foe Boston Latin. Brett Miller, a junior, had 15 points and knocked down 3 three-pointers for the Colonials.
Westford 68 Newton South 65
Westford (3-0) got balanced contributions and held of a late charge in a victory against Newton South. T. J. Jann led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Juniors Alex Haines and Peter Lynch were also a menace for Newton South. Haines had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Lynch added 16 points and 7 rebounds.
WESTBOROUGH 59, HOPKINTON 52
Host Hopkinton went into halftime with a one-point lead, but Westborough was able to turn the tables in the second half to beat the Hillers in this non-league game. Junior center Matt Van led the Rangers (3-2) with a game-high 19 points, and senior guard Adam Ridley had 10 points. Junior center Mark Sanborn had 11 points and nine rebounds for Hopkinton (3-2), and junior guard Mark Masucci scored 14 points.
DOVER-SHERBORN 59, KEEFE TECH 37
Jake Thorndike scored a game-high 24 points to lead Dover-Sherborn to its fourth straight Mustang Classic championship as the Raiders rolled past Keefe Tech in the title game at Marian High in Framingham.The Raiders jumped out to a 18-6 lead after the first quarter as Thorndike netted seven points and Oliver Brown scored all five of his points in the period. D-S led 30-18 at halftime and then built a commanding 47-30 advantage after three. Angel Navarro led Keefe with 17 points.
WESTON 50, TRITON 32
Alex Levine scored 11 points to lead Weston to a non-league win at Triton. The Wildcats (2-3) raced out to a 32-12 halftime lead and never looked back.
WAYLAND 67, DEDHAM 62:
Charles Brown tossed in 17 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as Wayland rallied from a nine-point deficit in the third quarter for a comeback victory over visiting Dedham in a non-league matchup earlier this week. Mike Mitchell collected 16 points, nine assists and five steals, and sophomore Adam Lewin had 15 points and five rebounds for Wayland (4-1, 3-1 DCL).
