Boston Warriors win 2 National AAU Tournaments
New England Recruiting Report
Within 4 days, both the 17U North (Grassa) and the 12U (Fish) teams took home AAU National Championship medals.
17U Wins AAU Super Showcase in Orlando
The 17U BW North team participated in the prestigious AAU Super Showcase in Orlando, FL. Before going to Orlando, the BW 17U team performed well at the NJ Summer Classic East with big wins over NJ Playerz and reigning champ Juice.
At the Super Showcase, playing without some of the key players in pool play, the 17U team dropped the first 2 games in pool play by a total of 5 points. In the final game of pool play with the team was finally at full strength the team started it’s run with a tough win over the Gulf Coast Rams. Finishing 3rd in pool play, the team was placed in the Super Showcase Copper Bracket. Right of the gate in bracket play the Warriors had to face the strong Team Florida. Lead by the outside game of Jasper Grassa and Jeff Tagger and the inside game of Youri Darcy, the team ran by Team Florida 78 – 70. In the round of 16, it was a rematch of quarterfinals at the Providence Jamfest versus the NJ Shoreshots Select. This time Akeem Williams was unstoppable and the Boston Warriors avenged the previous loss by 10 (66-56). In the round of 8, always-strong All Ohio Force was the opponent. After a sluggish first half, James Stukes (Winchendon) and Dan Brooks stepped up their game and took the ball to the basket on a regular basis and the Warriors took out All Ohio Force 64-55. In the semi-finals the Warriors faced the dangerous Memphis Stallions and top 50 recruit Mighty Chris Jones. This was a track meet from the first minute. The long range shooting of Grassa and Derek Retos and slashing Stukes pushed the Warriors to a double digit leads on numerous occasions but the Stallions never gave up. In the last few minutes the Stallions cut the lead all the way down to 2 points before Alex Kershaw stepped up and made big plays on both ends of the court and the Warriors prevailed 89 – 85. Jones lead all scoring with 47 points and Grassa lead the Warriors with 29 points.
This set up the finals matchup with NJ Roadrunners. In the Semi-finals the Roadrunners destroyed BB Stars of America by 24 points (56-32). With Coach K and the Duke staff seated at mid court of the Milk House as well as almost every major college coach in attendance, the Warriors took control of the game at the early stages with the long range shooting of Retos, Tagger and Grassa in addition to Brooks, Darcy and Stukes controlling the glass. Throughout the game, the Roadrunners made numerous attempts to make comebacks but overall depth of Warriors held the Roadrunners in check throughout and ultimately the Warriors prevailed 68 to 60 to win the AAU Super Showcase Copper Title and AAU National Title Medals. This is believed to be the first AAU Super Showcase National Title for a New England AAU team. The team members for the tournament were Jeff Tagger (Taft), Jasper Grassa (Lynn Classical), Derek Retos (Brimmer & May), Youri Darcy (St. Andrews), Joey Vasquez (Snowden), Andrew Gosselin (St. Bernards), Alex Kershaw (Tilton), Daniel Brooks (Catholic Memorial), Akeem Williams, James Stukes, Mike Accouia & AJ West (Winchendon).
Boston Warriors 12U Wins D2 Classic Championship in Detroit
The team members for the tournament were HASTEN KEARSE, EDDIE FISH, HILAL DAHLEH, MARQUES RICHARDSON, ISHMAN WILLIAMS, ROMELLO CROWELL, TIMOTHY PRESTON, MICHAEL HAGOPIAN, and KAREEM DAVIS.
The Boston Warrior AAU Boys Basketball Program is one of the strongest programs in New England. Last year we had 13 teams qualify for the AAU National Championships. But it is not all about going to the national Championships. We offer players of all talent level the possible opportunity to play competitive spring basketball. The size of each roster are kept manageable, we offer at least 5 tournaments in the spring and try to keep the price to play affordable. Most of all, we have provided very good coaching including a lot of skill work with real practices. Our mission is to provide local athletes intent on improving their games with an opportunity to compete against the best in NE.

Reebok Summer Classic East – Event Recap

Phil Kasiecki was in New Jersey this weekend to check out the action at the Reebok Summer Classic. The highlight of the day was watching the Warriors plow through the field en route to the silver bracket championship.
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Though more teams will be at the Playaz Ball an hour up the road in the Garden State, a few New England teams played in the Summer Classic East event at Rider.
It didn't take long for a New England presence to be shown, as the Boston Warriors 17U team knocked off Team Philly in one of the first games of the tournament by a score of 79-77. Akeem Williams simply couldn't be stopped in the second half, as he scored 23 of his 33 points in the latter frame. Many of those points came on drives, as he often knifed to the basket and finished strong, while his jumper wasn't going like it normally is. He certainly didn't do it alone, though. Alex Kershaw struggled for a lot of the game with his jumper, but got the game-winning field goal in the final seconds. James Rodriques also played well, scoring 11 points and helping to run the show.
The Warriors lost their next game to Cecil Kirk, in part because the Baltimore-based squad held down Williams at the offensive end. He scored just seven points and never really got on track.
The loss sent them into the silver bracket, but they rebounded to win their next game against the Brooklyn Ballers in coonvincing style, getting a big effort from Jeff Tagger, en route to a 95-69 decision over the Gym Rat Challenge Tournament champions. In the semi-finals of the silver bracket the Warriors then blew out the New Jersey All-Stars 86-64. Their dominance continued in the final as they came away with another big vicotry, knocking off Rise/Sam Rines 90-72 to win the silver bracket championship.
Williams averaged over 30 points per game in the Warriors' three games on Sunday, while Tagger averaged 24. Kershaw, Peter Lynch, and Archie Allen were also major contributors.
This past spring 10 Boston Warriors AAU teams qualified for their respective AAU National Championships.

Boston Warriors Elite 17U makes it to the final 8
The two-day event that drew 88 teams in the 17-under division requires teams that advance to the evening championship round to play five games on Sunday, often turning the title contest into a war of physical attrition. The 17U team won there pool play and despite numerous injuries won the first game in the championship round. The injuries caught up to the Warrirors as they fell by 3 points to the eventual Gymrat Tournament runner up The Raiders (out of PA) in the quarterfinals. Overall team competed as well as any team at the tournament.

Massachusetts 16-Under and 17-Under AAU Recap

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Over the past two weekends, the Amateur Athletic Union in Massachusetts called the Mansfield SportsPlex home. There, many divisions of its state tournament were held, including the 16-under and 17-under in the high school age categories.
Pool play was held the first weekend, featuring a few good games but a decided lack of competitive ones. As is often the case, it was mainly a warm-up to this weekend, when bracket play commenced on Friday night with three overtime games and continued through Sunday night.
Here are some notes on many of the players who competed here.
Class of 2009
Jeff Tagger (6'0" PG, Brockton (MA) Catholic Memorial HS) Also a very good football player, he had a huge game in a losing effort when his team was knocked out, going for 39 points with eight three-pointers. From the point guard spot, he's a good distributor with above-average quickness and is athletic, although he showed more scoring ability than playmaking here, as he also scored 23 in an earlier playoff game. Also an excellent student, he's a mid/low-major prospect who is likely to get better offers for football.
Akeem Williams (5'10" SG, Brockton (MA) Avon HS) Although he's more athletic than he looks, this three-point marksman could stand to improve his conditioning. That said, he isn't someone an opposing defense wants left open, and he showed that once again in going for 30 points (seven three-pointers) in a losing effort.

Many local teams defended their home turf on Saturday as a variety of programs from New England advanced into the gold bracket. Here is a look at the teams that advanced in the 17 and under division.
Boston Warriors – Not only did the Warriors win their pool, but they won their first game in the gold bracket before an unlucky end to their run. With the game already in overtime and the score tied, the Warriors were called for a phantom foul that cost them a trip to the quarterfinals. Akeem Williams continued to be a consistent scorer as he went for 22 points in their last game, while Nicco Demasco was very active in the paint and on the boards.

This spring we will offer multiple teams from age 10 and under (4th grade) to 17 and under (11th grade).

For players in the Boston and metrowest area (south & west of Boston) practices will be in the Waltham/Lexington/Cambridge area. The Boston Warriors North division will be made up primarily of players on the north shore. The practices for these teams will generally be in the Woburn, Wakefield, Peabody & Malden area. This year, for organizational purposes, the tryouts for the Boston Warriors and Boston Warriors North will be at Waltham High School (617 Lexington St. Waltham) on 2/7, 2/28 & 3/7 and at LCA (Lexington Christian Academy, 48 Bartlett Avenue, Lexington) on 2/14.

CHECK OUT THE 17u Boston Warriors at the 2007 Nationals in Orlando, Florida.
1. Below video of the Boston Warriors on the main court of the Milk House in front of a packed house playing the Illinios Rising Stars and Marcus Jordan (Michael's son, #3). The Warriors played them tough with the Rising Stars pulling away at the end for a 71-61 victory. The Warriors came in 2nd in the pool (to the Rising Stars) and moved onto the National bracket.

This past spring an unprecedented 13 Boston Warriors AAU teams qualified for their respective AAU National Championships.
Additional highlights included:
