WDOL CLOTHING DRIVE
Thank you to all who donated their used items for our fundraiser on Saturday, we collected an estimated 5,000 lbs of clothing, shoes, and toys!

2009 Greenknoll YMCA Long Course Invitational
The Western Connecticut Makos YMCA has added a Long Course Meet that is available to all YMCA teams at their outdoor pool in Danbury...you do not have to be a member of USA swimming to participate in this meet. (Long Course is a 50 meter length pool...so when you swim a 50...there is no flip...just one real long, straight swim.). This meet could be a great way to try out long course if you have never done it before. Coach Keith is willing to have YMCA coaches coach this meet, but the deadline is soon. The list of events being offered is in the attachment. (Click Notices link below) Each of the events are considered "open" which means that all boys and girls and all ages will swim the same event. The swimmers will be ordered based strictly on their seed time.
If you are interested in swimming, look at the attachment (Click Notices link below) and pick out up to 3 events per session that you would like your child to swim. You can do either one, two or all three sessions. Each individual is responsible for the splash fee for each event, payable to Wallingford Dolphins. Even though this is not a USA meet it will be a USA sanctioned meet so all of the times will count towards YMCA Nationals, Age Groups, Zones, etc..

USA SWIMMING ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
As you may be aware, the Wallingford Dolphins swim team is a year round swim team participating in YMCA meets and USA Swimming. Our team belongs to the YMCA Yankee Cluster League and competes in dual meets against other YMCA Teams, home and away. Championships consist of the Yankee Cluster Championship, and for swimmers who qualify, the New England Regional Championships and the YMCA National Championships. When you register to swim with the Dolphins, you are automatically enrolled in the YMCA portion of the team. Spring Clinic enrollment is currently taking place and will run from April 27th - May 22nd. Summer team season will begin after that.
Our team is also a member of USA Swimming and Connecticut Swimming. USA Meets are multi-club invitational meets. The championships for USA swimming consists of Regionals, Age Groups and then Zones competition. The Wallingford Dolphins does not require swimmers to become members of USA swimming, but it is encouraged. The current annual membership fee is $55 and is good from September 2008 through December 2009. There is also a seasonal membership costing $30 which currently is valid from April 2009 through August 2009. (Please note: Seasonal membership is not valid for competition at or above the zone championship levels (zones, sectionals, etc. - if you would like to compete at this level you need to be an annual member.) There is also a $20 per family annual fee to pay for the team membership expenses.
USA Swimming consists of two distict seasons: "Short Course" and "Long Course". The short course season (swimming in a 25-yard or 25-meter pool) begins in September and ends in March, with some championship meets in April. The long course season (swimming in a 50 meter pool - therefore there are not any 25 yard events) begins in April and ends in July with some championship meets in August.
The Long Course Season is starting soon. Wallingford Dolphins YMCA currently has 18 swimmers enrolled in USA swimming. There are not any time standards that a swimmer needs to have to be a member of USA swimming. The way our YMCA handles USA swimming is that we have volunteer parent coaches that pick which meets they are willing to coach. They notify the members of our USA team and the parents decided if they want to attend that meet. If they do want to attend that meet, the parents pick which events they would like their child to compete in. There is a per event fee ("splash fee") usually $4-$5 per event. Team Suits
EXTRA SWIM SUITS: If any one would like to purchase an extra team suit there is a limited number of the following sizes available: Male sizes, 26, 28, 30 and Female sizes 28, 30, 38. Since these are custom suits you cannot exchange a suit that you already purchased with a new suit. If you would like to purchase another suit, please contact Coach Keith.
NOTE: We need to place at least a six suit minimum order for both male and female suits separately.

If you are not currently receiving occasional emails from the Dolphins, we might not have your address. Please make sure that you included your email address on your child's registration form or email it to wallingforddolphins@hotmail.com . This is a critical way that the team will communicate information.
