Memorial Day Tournament

WOW...We were treated to some very NICE, although very hot, weather over the entire weekend.  Local community folks really showed their support and goodwill for the benefit of the Sawchak Family, whose son, Eric, is suffering from Lymphoma.  

The Tournament raised over $5,000 for the Sawchak Family!!!

The games were very exciting all weekend and the

Championship Game proved to be the MOST exciting of them all!

The Championship Game featured the Southern Maryland Senators (4-0) vs. the Waldorf LL Astros (3-1).  The Astros jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and seemed to be primed for an easy win, due to the excellent pitching of starter Brian Shaw.  

However, the Senators had other ideas.  They finally broke through in the bottom of the 5th inning, plating 2 runs, and making the score 10-2 Astros.  Then in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Senators rallied and scored an additional 6 runs to make the score 10-8.  

The Senators pitching held the Astros bats quiet in the top of the 7th.  

Astros relief pitcher Dale Arbaugh, III, started the 7th inning and struck out the first two batters.  He then struck out the last batter in dramatic fashion, with a called 3rd strike, outside curveball.

The game ended in a 10-8 win for the Astros!!!

Senior Baseball

Champions 

Congratulations to the Senior Baseball team for completing a PERFECT 3-0 record during the tournament!!

The team, led by Manager Lance Bannister and coaches Landon Bannister and Bobby Carroll, played excellent defense and had a myriad of great pitching efforts along the way.  The offense was just as productive, scoring over 30 runs in the three games...

Congrats to the 10-11 Baseball team for completing a perfect 3-0 Tournament Sweep!!!

The team played an excellent three games,

led by Manager Mike Barnett and Coaches Jeff Blanton and Frank Hayes.

Instructional Baseball Tournament

The Instructional Baseball division played its Championship Game under the lights on Friday, June 24th, at Stethem Park.  The Hooks, sponsored by Lovelace Painting, Inc. faced the Storm, sponsored by PenFed Realty.

The game was one of the best I have seen in quite some time.  Good offense, good defense and a SUPER comeback by the Storm.  The game was very well attended on both sides and was very exciting.  They played a full 6 innings, and it took all six, to determine a winner.

Congratulations to both teams for successful season!
