Following are some frequently asked questions about the Woodbury Developmental Baseball League. These ARE real questions!
Can I request a buddy for my child or make a carpool request?
YES! You may make REQUESTS. However, that is exactly what they are: requests. Following is our team selection policy:
Pre-K through 1st grade – Teams will be created randomly.
2nd grade and up – Teams will be created based on rating sheets which were completed and turned in by each coach at the end of last year.
WDBL Board members will objectively administer the team placement.
Because of the tremendous administrative burden, special requests for kids to play on the same team may not be honored unless they are from the same family. Requests for specific coaches cannot be honored.
To make a request, email your child's grade coordinator.
Can I request a specific coach for my child?
No. Well, you can ask. But our policy is that, in the interest of fair teams, these requests cannot be honored.
Can we form our own team?
NO! Not a chance. Fair teams are extremely important and trump all requests for players to be together.
Are you looking for coaches?
Almost always!!!!! Email your grade coordinator to volunteer. Your kids will love you for it. Step up and make a difference in some kids' lives.
What days will my child play?
Practices are Sundays. Games are weeknights - if possible we avoid Friday and Saturday. But it's all a function of how many kids sign up, how many fields we have available to us, etc. Due to the size of the program, we cannot establish set nights for games. You child will likely play on different nights each week. Refer to the Age Levels link to the left for a more detailed description of the program your child will be participating in.
Could you please move our team's practices closer to my home?
Uhhh. No. With 1,400+ kids we can't possibly schedule practices close to everyone's house. The Director doesn't even get this privilege. We schedule certain parks for certain age groups. You may be one of the lucky ones where it works out that your child will play close to home. You may not be. It's nothing personal...
Can my child play up a level?
NO! WDBL has a strict policy against playing up. PLAYERS MUST REGISTER FOR THE GRADE THEY ARE CURRENTLY IN (to play Pre-K, your child must have been born before 9/1/2004). We serve a wide variety of players with varying abilities and while we understand that there may be players out there who are ready to play up, we must draw the line somewhere. We are not equipped to evaluate each case and the WDBL Board is in agreement with holding fast to this policy.
What about the pants?
Your registration fee did, indeed, include the costs for a pair of pants. Pants distribution will be at Dick's Sporting Goods at specific times. Additional information will be posted on the website. PLEASE DON'T GO TO DICK'S LOOKING FOR YOUR WAA BASEBALL PANTS EXCEPT ON POSTED PICKUP DATES! Please DO go to Dick's to purchase all of your other baseball gear...and anything else that you might need that they sell for that matter...on any day that you like that they are open.
