CAV 16's TEAM RULES & EXPECTATIONS

Congratulations and welcome to the 2009 CAV Volleyball Season.

Outlined below are expectations that the coaching staff believes are critical to promoting excellence and making sure we all have a great experience.

Commitment

Players: We expect the players to attend all practices, games, and team events. Tardiness or absences for routine matters are discouraged and may result in reduced playing time or extra duties. Chronic tardiness or absences may even result in suspension from the team.

Academics, social activities, and other extracurricular pursuits are all extremely important and conflicts will inevitably arise during the season, but we expect players to discipline themselves and manage their time so as to minimize conflicts with their commitment to their teammates.

Coaches: We are dedicated to running a disciplined and successful program and to improving every individual athlete’s volleyball skills. We aim to encourage and reward good work habits, instill a love of the sport, and create opportunities for each athlete to contribute to the team’s success in a healthy competitive environment.

Playing Time and Position

We will always present a lineup that we feel gives our team the best opportunity to defeat the opponent. At the same time, we will work hard to put every player in a position where she can contribute to the team's success and give every player an opportunity to contribute at every tournament.

If an athlete wants clarification regarding playing time or role on the team, the coaching staff will do so. The athlete must, however, select a time apart from competition and speak to us directly. The staff will not discuss these issues with a parent outside the athlete’s presence.

Team Rules

As a CAV Volleyball player...

I will be at practices, team meetings, matches, and other team events at the time designated by the coaches and will have with me all my required volleyball gear – this includes a water bottle.

I will give the staff advance notice if I must be absent or tardy.

I understand that for practices and matches, “on time” means I already have on my kneepads, ankle braces, and shoes, my hair up, and other needs taken care of by the appointed start time.

I will help set up and put away the equipment at practices.

I will handle and store equipment properly to prevent damage and will not leave empty drink bottles or other trash behind when I leave a facility.

I agree to turn my cell phone off once I enter a practice or competition facility and understand that I may only turn it back on once I leave the facility. If an emergency arises, I will obtain permission from the coaching staff to use my phone at the site.

I will remove all jewelry before practices and matches; failure to do so will result in reduced playing time.

When a coach is speaking I will not interrupt, bounce a ball, make side conversation or show any sign of disinterest or disrespect.

I will run to shag balls during all drills. I will help my teammates shag all balls up before water breaks and at the end of practice.

I will not leave the court area or facility unless I have received permission from the coaching staff.

I will develop and follow a work ethic that will produce success both on and off the court. This means exerting maximum and positive effort in practices and matches and honoring my academic and family commitments.

I will take responsibility for my own physical well-being; this includes eating healthy foods, making sure I drink enough fluids before and during practice and competitions, following instructions given me by my physician, and promptly reporting any injuries I have to my coach.

I will always exhibit good sportsmanship when competing; this includes showing respect for the officials, my opponents, and the fans.

I will at all times treat my teammates with respect.

I will overcome the urge to complain, think negatively, participate in cliques, pout, act selfishly, or engage in any other behavior that undermines team chemistry.

If I have a problem with a teammate, I will work it out with her face-to-face and not gossip about her behind her back.

I will actively support my teammates when I am not in the game.

I will accept the decisions of the coaches regarding playing time and playing position.

I will share the work assignments at volleyball tournaments with my teammates. I will pay close attention to my duties if I am working a match and will perform those duties to the best of my ability; if my teammates are working and I am not, I will remain court-side until they are finished.

I understand that violating any of the team policies and rules may result in a reprimand, extra duties, loss of playing time, or suspension from the team depending on the severity of the infraction.
