2012 Rules
VERNON WOMEN’S SOFTBALL 2012 LEAGUE RULES
Slow pitch rules will be the same as in the ASA Rule book with the exceptions listed below.
1. Captains are responsible to make sure that all players know all rules.
2. Players have the option to slide or not to avoid contact at 1st, 2nd or 3rd base.
B) A player must slide at home plate only if a play is being made.
C) The Umpire has the authority to call you out for contact on any base
3. No stealing/no bunting.
4. Pitch must rise 6 feet from ground on release; rise may be 12 feet maximum from release.
B) Rise is from ground.
5. Strike zone is from the plate; 46 feet from mound.
6. Players may take a two (2) step lead after the ball is released from pitchers hand.
B) If you receive one warning from the umpire for taking an excessive lead that will be a warning to all of your team. If the Umpire finds it happening again he WILL call you out
C) Pick off lead is a forced out on runner taking lead, no tag needed.
7. Foul tip rule is not in effect for our league
B) Any foul tip over the head is played as a foul ball.
C) If ball is tipped on third strike and the catcher catches the tip that is not over the head, the batter is out.
8. Game time is 6:30pm.
B) 6:45pm is forfeit time
C) Warm-ups before the games are for everyone.
i. 6:00pm Visitors
ii. 6:15pm Home
9. There is an eight (8) player minimum for games.
B) A late arrival may be added up until the 3rd inning, inclusive.
C) If a team has to forfeit due to lack of players, teams will have the option to play out game, umpires must stay for game.
D) There will be no rescheduling of games due to a lack of players, team must take a forfeit.
E) Team NO show and No notification to the President given by 5PM:
A $40 forfeit Fee check is due by the start of 1st game- it will not be cashed
unless needed for a non-notification of forfeiting, it will be returned at the end of the season.
10. If a player who is already in line up must leave game, she will be considered an Out each time she comes up to play.
B) If both Captains agree the circumstances were unavoidable (ie, injury, emergency, etc.), only then will the player not be considered an out.
11. Each team will play each other twice.
12. The 15-run rule applies by the 5th inning.
13. Every player who comes to game must bat but does not have to play the field.
14. An injured player who needs a runner must notify the umpire and captain of opposing team before the game begins.
B) If injury occurs during the game, a runner may be put in.
C) A player must truly need a runner, not someone faster.
15. Rain-Outs: Unless formally notified by umpires, president, or your captains, you are to show up at the field with intent to play.
B) Captains will be notified by 5:00pm as to whether the game is canceled or not. Please call hotline 973-764-7020.
C) Rain-outs will be rescheduled immediately for the Friday of the following week and then the next available Friday.
D) One day has been left open at the end of the season for make ups if needed.
E) President will reschedule all rain-outs.
16. All registration fees and team rosters are due by your team’s third game.
B) Cost: $30.00 per player.
C) Each team must have a minimum of 12 players on their rosters.
D) Sponsor fees of $150 are due by the 1st of May.
E) There will be one sub list consisting of Five (5) non-paying subs may be added to the roster before the third game of the season.
F) Regular games can use subs to make 10 players.
However, if a sub shows up and is the 11th player, she may NOT play in
In the game but can be used on another team if needed to make 10.
The Maximum Sub’s allowed in a Playoff Game or Final is two (2).
G) No pregnant woman may play.
17. Playoffs for all teams will be single elimination.
B) Non-paying subs are allowed during playoffs so team does not forfeit.
18. If there is a tie for first place in the league standings, the tie breaker is determined as follows:
B) Head to Head game results
C) Head to Head Runs Against
D) Head to Head Runs For
E) Overall Runs Against
F) Overall Runs For
19. Equipment that will be purchased by the league will consist of bases, softballs, etc.
B) Catcher’s masks purchased by the league for each individual team is the responsibility of each team. The VTWS league owns these masks.
C) Any bats purchased by any team with league money is owned by the VTWS league.
20. Any unsportsmanlike behavior from players/coaches will not be tolerated.
B) First occurrence will result in a verbal warning by the umpire.
C) Second occurrence will result in ejection from the game and a game suspension (individual must leave the vicinity). It is the responsibility of the team captain to contact the President of the league immediately in the event of an ejection.
D) In the event of multiple players/coaches behaving in an unsportsmanlike
