Giving Back

CANNED FOOD DRIVE A GREAT SUCCESS

I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to each of you that donated a canned food or some type of food product this weekend to the games between VR and LP.

With the help of Lincoln Park families, we were able to donate 160 pounts of food to the Greater Berks Food Bank.

As members of the Van Reed Family, we should all be very proud of this accomplishment.  Again, thanks for your many contributions.

- Joe Lenart and the Van Reed Athetic Asssociation Board.

VAN REED SUPPORTS BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISERS

Again this year, the Wilson High School football team sponsored a charity event for the Big Brothers / Big Sisters Organization.  The event was designed to bring 40 children from the organization’s COULS program (Club of Unmatched Littles) to West Lawn.  The children got to interact with Wilson football players who showed them a day of fun and a passion for the game of football as well as giving them some much needed attention. Each child received a T-shirt and a football to take with them.  The Van Reed Athletic Association was proud to provide the footballs to every child who attended this event!

VAN REED PROVIDES RECONDITIONED EQUIPMENT TO CITY YOUTH PROGRAM

VRAA is fortunate to provide our football players with the best equipment that meets the highest safety requirements.  As we turnover existing & old equipment each year, we inevitably have outdated  helmets, shoulder pads and other equipment that can still be used once certified by an authorized agency; however, they may not be the latest & greatest in safety.  The cost to outfit 1 football player is expensive; however, the safety of our football players has been and always will be the most important factor in determining our equipment budget.  Other youth football programs in Berks County are not as fortunate.  Over the last several years, Van Reed has been able to donate some of our more "experienced" equipment to an inner-city youth program, right here in Reading.  This helps them reduce operating expenses and gives their football players safe equipment they can afford.
