DEFENSIVE LANGUAGE AND PLAYS

1.Block- When a spike is deflected off a defensive members arms down onto the
offensive side of the court.
2.Dig- When a spike is successfully passed.
3.Pancake- When a player flattens his hand on the court and the ball lands on the
hand and bounces up. Usually occurs when a player dives for a hard hit ball in front of him.
4.Dive- When a player has to jump forward with his/her arms leading and feet up in
the air to dig a ball.
5.Tool- When a blocker gets the ball hit off of his/her hands out of bounds by the
person hitting the ball.
6.Six-Pack- When a defensive player gets the ball spiked off of their face.
7.Freeball- When, on the third hit, the ball is either passed or set over the net due to an errant set or pass that was not accurate enough for the ball to be spiked over.
