PLAYING DEFENSE IN DOUBLES

The defender position is crucial to digging balls and scoring points. Defenders should look not only for the hitter’s hitting arm, but also gauge how far the ball is set from the net. A tighter set will allow a hitter to hit a ball with more of a sharp angle. Therefor, the defender should stay a little closer to the net (on the angle). If the ball is set off the net, regardless if the blocker is blocking or pulling, your defensive spot should be a little deeper and maybe a little more toward the center of the court. Play around with it and find whats right for you.
