OUTSIDE/SETTER SWITCH

This drill helps to work both the setter and the opposite’s transition from defense to offense.
Here is the situation that the drill is useful to practice for:
In a 6 on 6 match, many times the setter will dig a cross court angle ball, leaving he/she unable to set the next ball. Because the setter can not touch the ball immediately, the opposite is forced to come up and set. If the opposite is unprepared or unpracticed with setting, this could be a frustrating way to lose a point. Thus, the reason for and importance of this drill.
In practice, have a coach or player stand on a bench next to the net. Then, have the setter or opposite pull off the net simulating that the ball has been set back across the net. With a third person digging next to them, ensure that both players feet are on opposite sides of the 10 ft line. Then, have the person on the bench fire a ball in their direction forcing one person to dig, and the other to set. Do this about 10 times, and switch.
Play hard!
