SERVING BLUES

I have many of my younger students and adult beginners struggle with serving balls over the net. Here is my advice for them:

First off, you've got to remember that if you strike the ball cleanly off your palm, the ball will go in the direction that your palm faces. This is your control factor. If you are having a problem with getting height on the ball, try bending your wrist backward a little so that you hit the ball with the heel of your hand causing the ball to go up more. If distance is a problem, try shifting your weight forward before contact to get your body involved more. You can even use your stomach to drive through the ball more.
Make sure that you dont "shot put" the ball. It's too hard to get any pace on the ball that way.

Play HARD!
