Lightning Baseball takes 3rd in Desert Fall Classic Las Vegas, NV
Lightning Baseball took 3rd in this year's Desert Fall Classic in Las Vegas, NV. Lightning's only two losses came at the expense of So Cal Angels. Once in pool play and another in the Semi-Final. The Angels went on to win the Championship beating out the Blizzard from Minnesota. The Angels are the same club that faced the Lightning in the 14U Winter National Championship game. Great job Angels.

The 16's playing in the 18U's opened up against the Mavericks and pounded the ball from the start. With Anthony Cantu on the mound we outscored the Mavericks 18-9. Pool play game two was against the E-B Lookouts. With Tanner Mendonca throwing a complete game, we continued to hit the ball beating the Lookouts 7-3. Finishing pool play as the #1 seed, we faced the Lookouts again in the semi's. Steven Lozier went the distance as hitting was still the theme. Blake Proctor led the charge with two triples, as Lozier and Messler continued to pound the ball. Lightning advanced into the ship 13-7. The championship was against a very strong BMP squad. The bats were finally calmed by a big lefty throwing a two hitter into the 6th inning. Rosado started the game with Proctor coming in for relief. Proctor threw 4 innings only allowing 2 runs. With a pitching change in the 7th, we threatened by a rbi single by Mendonca making putting us on the board. We then proceeded to get runners at 2nd and 3rd, as Flamion flew out deep to left field to end the game. It was a great weekend. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Lightning Baseball wins BPA Mistlin in Ripon, CA October 20-21st

What a great weekend of baseball and hopefully a good tune up for Vegas.
This was our first tournament at Ripon (Mistlin Sports Complex), and I think
everyone really enjoyed it.
Our 14's had another tough outing having to play up a division for the second
time in a row. We opened with the Turlock Bombers which was a good game
until the 4th inning. The game ended up 9-1. Game#2 was against the Stockton
Blaze, in which we took another loss against this strong hitting team. As the #5
seed we played CenCal Academy which was another solid 15U team. Although we
went 0-3, we are looking forward to the first tournament in which the boys
can play in their age division.
The 15's played up in the 16U division for the second tournament in a row.
(Santa Maria in which we lost the Semi by a run). We opened up against the CA
Predators with Giltmier on the mound. Baca came in for relief and Rosado
closed the game which we won 5-0. Game #2 was against Club Allstar. This was a
very exciting game. Lozier pitched awesome in a 8-4 victory, with Rosado
coming in to close out the inning. Going 2-0 in pool play seeded us in the
dreaded #1 spot receiving a bye on Sunday morning. We came back having to play the
tough Club Allstar team again. Brager took the mound and threw very well, as
we went on to a 6-5 victory in which oddly enough Rosado came in to close
again. Ray Baca took the mound in the Championship game going 4 innings with with
Jeffries pitching one inning in relief and Lozier came into close out an 11-2
Victory over the Velocity Academy. This was our first 16U tournament win.
Defense was solid and the boys hit the ball well. Check the website for
updates and stats.

Lightning Baseball Finishes 3rd in BPA Fall State Championships
Lightning Baseball represented well this weekend in Ripon finishing 3rd out of 10 in our first pure 16U tournament. (Meaning it wasn't a combined 15U/16U) Game one, we opened against a solid 16U team from San Jose. Jimmy Brager pitched oustanding only giving up two hits and striking out a hand full. The only problem was their two pitchers were just as effective keeping us of the bases and not allowing us to generate any offense ourselves. This game was played in 1 hour and 28 minutes and ended in a 0-0 tie. Game two was against the Valley Boyz, and with the addition of several Hanford Sohpmores, and a 3 Visalia Sophmores, they are a very solid team. Based on the fact that us and the Valley Boyz had combined for 4 championships in a row at Mistlin, this was another good game. Anthony Snipps (from Selma) threw 7 very effective innings only allowing 4 hits and not allowing a run. The Valley Boyz' pitcher also held us in check for 5 innings until a 1st and 2nd one out bunt by Gilbreath began a 7 run inning. The game ended 7-0. With one win and one tie and having no runs allowed we ended pool play as the #3 seed. Sunday we opened against the Manteca Heat. As usual the Lightning (appear on Sunday only) offense produced 6 runs in the first. Rosado started the inning by getting on 1st, and moved to 3rd on a single by Lozier. Koretoff drove in Lozier. We hit through the line up the first inning. Lozier threw 5 2/3 only allowing 3 runs on a couple of walks and two errors in the 5th. Up next was #2 seed Elk Grove Rebels. We got off to an early lead by scoring 2 in the 1st, and another in the 2nd. We had beat the Rebels the week before in the Semi Finals by coming back in the 6 inning down 5-3 and won 6-3. As with the week before we had difficulty getting their #2 and #3 hitter out. In the fourth he lead off with a double and the #3 hitter followed with a two hun home run. With the momentum now on their side they proceeded to bring in their big lefty who shut us down for 3 straight innings striking out 7 of 9 hitters and not allowing a single base runner. They scored 3 more in the 5th off a couple of walks and a couple of flare base hits and the game ended 6-3. The Rebels went on to beat the Stanislaus in the Championship. Thank everyone who attended it was a very competitive tournament. Up next will be December 8th in Ripon.
