Virginia Panthers Basketball Team: Welcome

Welcome to the Virginia Panthers Web Site!

Mission Statement:

The Virginia Panthers is a 501(c)3 non profit, tax exempt basketball team. The goal is to reach out to kids and teach them the fundamentals of basketball. The program is academic as well as athletic because we hold tutoring and mentoring for the children and a safe haven to play. As a result of the high academic standards the players in the 1-8th grades are participants in the Honor Roll programs at their respective schools, therefore dispelling the stereotype that so often plague kids that play basketball. Kids are also taught the importance of the community by participating once a month in community service for free activities.

Team Tri-County Classic 14U

Clifton Spann lead the team to several impressive wins over weekend. The 6'5 combo was  outstanding in the open court. Clifton Spann reminds coach Puncho of Jamal Fergurson. Cliff can shoot pass and dribble which makes his size for opposing teams a big problem.  Breyon Gaddy had an incredible one hand dunk that drove the crowd wild.  The 6'4  255 pound 7th grader is the real deal. We predict first rounder Nfl one day if he continues to work hard. God says claim it and it shall be yours. Aton Ashby and John King did a great job in the area of point guard play, Kevin Marks continued to show his improvement from two years ago. Kevin is the panthers most improved player. Kevin spent the whole summer at Coach Puncho's camp and it shows. Brandon Gaddy maybe one of the top 7th grade kids in the nation. Brandon will be a tough matchup all year for opposing teams. Brandon ability to get to the hoop is kobe like. Teams from the maryland area could not stop the 6'3 tripple threat. Sean Banks, Hanson Hatcher, Demetry Doucet, and Ray ward did a great job also. Ray ward did a outstanding in the area of bringing energy to the team. The 11 year kid just can flat out play. C

Team Tri-County 13U

Breyon and Brandon gaddy could not be stopped. The one two punch knocked the maryland team out within the first 3 minutes. Too strong, fast, quick and better skill set for the opposing host team. Aton ashby and Ray Ward had a strong game. Ray just had a coming out party this weekend. The 6 grade kid put in work. The Panthers rolled over the 7th grade teams with ease. Average victories of 25 points. Great Job!!!!! 

Team Tri-city 11U

Ashley James and Leontre Bailey continued their hard work in the area of on ball defense. Ashley's defense is just outstanding. Coach Puncho says that Ashley James defense is the key to the Panthers success. Leontre ability to drive to the cup is just special. Leontre could not be stopped from driving to the basket. Damion turner dominated the boards against the taller big men from Maryland. Damion did not shoot much, however his rebounded was outstanding. Dai'vaontay Tyler had a great first AAU tournament. Dai'vaontay will add alot to the Panthers team this year. Tyshan Artybridge played solid defense all game. Tyshan is another on ball defender that the panthers love. Monteze Hawkins had a outstanding game in the area of scoring. Monteze three three point shots sparked the panthers.  The five point victory was not the close, Panthers wanted the 3rd and 4th grade kids to finish the game. Sage Mclellan, and Alex Walker did a great job. Alex hit a big trey to seal the victory. The team played up the next game. the 6 grade team was strong at the guard position, however the Panthers put up a fight. the boys got behind by 14, however coach Puncho changed the defense from zone to man. The Panthers were able to force the 7th grade guard into traps and turnovers. Ray ward knocked down 3 trey in a row. leontre, Dai'vaontay and Ashley showed off their skill set. The panthers defense put the lockdown on the host team from Maryland. The Panthers got within 6 before Ashley missed a wide open layup. Ashley tried to use right hand oppose to left and missed layup. the six foot kid got rebound and passed down court for easy layup. the 8 point loss was a lesson learned. The 11 year olds got respect from the crowd and opposing coaches.            

Wildcat Summer Midwest Nationals 12U 

Lead by Rodney Herenton the Panthers came to Chicago ready to play. Rodney put on a show against the Wisconsin Stars. the boys coasted to a 60 to 34 win. Willie Herenton, Aton Ashby, Tommy Banks and Kevin Marks also played up with the 12U team and held their own. Breyon Gaddy and Brandon Gaddy also had a strong game. Breyon is a beast in the wild! Breyon had the coaches of the Stars asking how old is that kid. the 6'1 12year old just plays like a man at times. The next pool game was not as easy,the Minnessoto bulldogs were ready to give the Panthers a fight. Once again Rodney played like a mad man. Rodney made several drives to the basket that had the crowed saying kobe.Breyon continue to control the boards. Brandon hit three big trey's to seal the victory. The Panthers won a tight fought game 47 to 46 in overtime. The Spice Wolfpack had a tough time handeling Rodney and Breyon. Rodney continued to score by driving to the basket and breyon was a man on the boards. Brandon three point bombs were fun to watch. Kevin and Willie played outstanding ball. Tommy and Aton cotinued to play solid defense. Panthers won 70 to 47. Championship play started with the boys playing the Breakers out of Chicago, the breakers had a forward that was the truth. the 6"1 kid could play. Rodney and the Breakers All star went at each other.Although not having two Starters from the AAU Nationals, the team played together. Brandon hit three trey's in a row, Willie hit a big time three and aton came off the bench and played pitbull defense. Breyon got a big time and one basket when the boys needed him the most. Rodney drive to the hoop with less then four ticks on the clock was incredible. Antonio block inbound defensive play won the game. The Panthers won 41 to 39 in a war! The boys would face Spice Wolfpac again. Coach mcghee allowed Isaih and Kerrian to start. The two reserve guard did a great job. Willie and Kevin continue to show why they are two of the best 5th grade kids in the State of Virginia. Aton and Tommy also played outstanding ball. kevin three trey's back to back was crazy. Rodney,Brandon and Breyon loved watching their teammates shine. the 46 to 35 victory put the Boys in the championship. The team was in for a battle against the play ground Elite. Breyon and the big for the Elite team went at it. Breyon got two early fouls which hurt the panthers on the boards. The elite 6"5 big man also got in foul trouble. The Elite outside shooting was outstanding. playinging without Adrice and Ny'Reese cought up with the Panthers. Brandon shot 33% from the field, Willie and Aton both shot 30% from the field. Rodney and Antonio Played solid basketball, however not enough to put the boys on top. The 44 to 33 defeat was a result of poor shooting.       

Wilcat Summer midwest nationals 10U

The young but eager Panthers had a battle from start to finish. Lead by Jason Price terry the team played hard. down by 15 points at half the panthers went on a run in the third period. jason hit two three's to get the boys going. Trey bailey and Samuel Herenton stepped the defense up causing several turnovers. Nahlij Riley also turned it on in the 2nd half. Hanson Hatcher cotrol the boards in the paint. Hatcher really played with heart throughout the tournament. Jack Markavich,Monteze' Hawkins, Ashely James and Kiyoun Tiddle played with alot of Charactor. Jason got the team within 6 points,however the guard from the Predators out of Wisconsin scored two baskets to end the run. the 45 to 32 defeat was closer then the score. next for the boys were the Illionois crush. the lack of having a big man hurt the Panthers. Playing with five 3rd graders was hard to overcome, the Crush was too long for the Panthers. Jason once again showed Chicago that he can flat out play. Jason three point range is unreal. Jason kepted the game interesting with his trey's and circus shots driving to the hoop. Samuel heated up also by hitting a couple of mid range jump shots. Trey Bailey also had a strong game in the area of driving to the basket. Jack and Hanson cotinued to play defense. The Crush won going away 42 to 30. The boys won the next pool play game. kessel heat was upset by the boys. Jason,Samuel, Trey and Hanson played strong. Nahlij and Richard Maldonado play solid defense. The win was a much needed one for the young but haed playing Panthers. The Wisconsin playground elite and panthers went down to the last play. what a war! both teams put it on the line. Jason, Trey, Samuel and Nalig played big. Jason continued to show signs of being special. Jason was tired,however coach needed him to push the ball up the court. The change of pace helped the boys  pull out the victory. Jason was able to break to press by playing up tempo basketball. Samuel big steal, trey and one basket along with Nahlij biggest shot of his life sealed the win. Both teams made three back to back shots in the last two minutes of the game, what Drama! the 36 to 35 win was incredible! the Wisconsin wizards were know match for the Panthers. Samuel, Trey, Jason and Nahlij contined to play solid basketball. Richard, kiyoun, Monteze' and Ashley played hard defense.  40 to 26 win was impressive! The first championship round game had the boys playing Ken rock heat out of arlington,il. The panthers got a lead and never looked back. the 31 to 25 victory was big. Jason just played outstanding ball. Samuel and trey continued to be a strong supporting cast. Hanson stepped it up big time with strong play. Jack was a beast on the boards. Jack improvement throughout the tournament was a plus. Jack gave all he had! Ashley,kiyon and Nahlij played pitbull defense. The panthers faced another Wiconsin Playground Elite team. this team was bigger, stronger and older. The young Panthers played hard,however the 5'9 big was too much for the boys. the mighty panthers fought but Know match on the boards. Jason continued to play mvp like giving Wisconsin fits at times. Sameul, Trey and Jack played solid basketball. the 39 to 23 defeat was tough. Overall the boys played great basketball. The team that had six 9U players showed Chitown that they will not back down to knowone!                      

WildCat Summer Midwest Nationals 11U

lead by Willie Herenton and Kevin Marks the boys got off to a fast start. the rising Stars out of chicago had a solid team,however know match for the Panthers. Tommy Banks was on fire. Tommy 12 foot jump shots was a pretty site to see. willie three points shots along with Kevin going to the cup was hard to stop. John King played outstanding defense throughout the game. John does the little things that coach Puncho loves. The Rising stars was within one point of the Panthers with one minute remaining,however Aton Ashby made a steal and bucket to ice the game. Aton defense was unreal in the final period. The team won a hard fought 54 to 50 victory. the next pool play game was tough. The Wisconsin force had the best forward we faced. This kid could flat out play. Willie and kevin came to play once again. Willie three point bombs and Kevin slashing to the basket was too much for the boys from the flat land. Markell Hodge came off the bench and played great defense. John and Tommy continued their great play. Jack Markovich play strong defense in the paint. the 57 to 41  win was solid. the waukegan traveling stars was the next pool play game. The panthers lead from start to finish. Willie, Tommy,Aton, kevin and John played like mad men. Shaun and Markel played great also. 60 to 39 was the final score! Randolph out of indiana was the foe, the boys continue to play solid ball. Willie and Tommy continue to show why they are outstanding players. kevin and Aton just play with heart. The boys won 62 to 47 going away. Championship play the boys rolled pass the predators 53 to 28 and the rising Stars Elite 53 to 41. the Championship game was one to see. The wisconsin stars and the Panthers went at it. tommy and Kevin Put on a show. Willie and Aton played with heart and toughness. Willie missed a one and one foul shot and the Stars made a shot with 5 sec to win the game 42 to 41. what a game! the Boys came up short,however showed chitown that the Panthers are for real!              

AAU NATIONALS 2010 JULY 16-22 

The boys playing in their 2nd nationals came out balling. Rodney Herenton looked strong with quick baskets to the hoop. Breyon Gaddy looked strong on the glass. Breyon had the 6'5 California big man looking for answers. Breyon frame was too much for the tall lanky big man. Adrice Adebayo also did a good job on the boards,however foul trouble put him on the bench most of the game. Southern Aces point guard put on a show. The Panthers took a 10 point lead going into the 2nd period. the 5'7 point made three baskets to cut the lead. the Cali team pressed the Panthers,however without Ny'Reese moore to help Rodney in the back court it would be tough for the boys. Ny'reese hurt in the previous nationals did not play. The Panthers made a run in the 3rd period,however could not overcome the strong California team. Breyon played like a mad man. Breyon and Adrice looked like the twin towers on the floor. The 47-62 score did not show the dog fight the Number 7th ranked team in the Nation was in. The boys bounced back with strong defense. Ny'Reese return and looked solid. Rodney had a strong game,the 5'9 off guard was too much for Hoopdogs out of Texas. Breyon and Adrice continued to show why they are the best bigs on the east coast. Jaquez Harrison and Willie Herenton had contributted to the win. 37 to 29 victory was impressive. Last game in pool play was Ohio Prep,Breyon an Adrice had a block party. The two blocked 12 shots for the game. Rodney went to the cup with ease. Aton Ashby and kevin marks played strong defense. Also, Jaquez played lock down defense. boys won going away 62-50. Championship play was exciting, the DC Assault team was ranked number 11th in the Nation. Rodney put on a show. Rodney came to play and it showed. The Washington,DC team could not match up with the big guard. Breyon and Adrice once again played great. Adrice blocked shots and grabbed rebounds. Breyon just was a man all day. Brandon and ny'reese had big games also. Brandon can flat out shoot the rock. The game came down to a final play in overtime. DC Assualt made a three point shot with 2 seconds to win the game. what a battle! The boys would play New Jersey got game in first round consolation. The 51 to 47 win was impressive. Breyon and Rodney continued to play strong. Adrice the next big ticket blocked shots all game. The big man blocked 8 and pulled down 12 rebounds. Breyon just was too much for the Jersey boys. Brandon came off bench and hit two big three point shots. Jaquez and wille had solid games also. The number 5th ranked team in the nation was next. The two back to back Nationals cought up with the boys. The Cincinnati lakers got a big lead and never looked back. the determined Panther got within 7 points,however the Ohio team guard would not miss any midrange jump shots. Rodney played strong at times but not consistant. Adrice played great,however foul trouble hurt him. Ny'reese played strong,however not consistant. the 58 to 44 lost was tough to swollow. One game away from placing in the top 12 in the nation. Soooooooooooo close!       

AAU NATIONALS 2010 JULY 11-16  

The hungry Panthers open the tournament by crushing the upstart Ballers  out of Potomac Valley. Tyheim Privott defense was outstanding. Tyheim may be the best defender in the nation. Coach Puncho called this kid mr.  heart. Tyheim does not give up! Willie Herenton came of the bench and contributed 12 points. the fifth grade kid can flat out score. Breyon  gaddy had a double double. The 6'1 Shaq like center moves like a deer.  The 12 year old big man comes to play. The Ballers were know match for Breyon. Rodney herenton went to the basket at will. The 5'9 gd was able to create open shots for teammates. Adrice Adebayo also did a great job of  getting rebounds and blocking shots. the 6'5 big man kepted the inside clear all game. the 73 to 58 win was solid from start to finish. 2nd game in pool play was much like the first. Breyon just was too much for the Stamford Peace out of connecticut. Tyheim smothering defense was just outstanding. Rodney Herenton continued his solid  play. Ny'Resse Moore also had a solid game. The lanky point guard loves slashing to the hoop. Willie herenton had another strong game. kevin Marks and Aton Ashby came off the bench and played great defense.these two 5th grade kids are going to be special. Brandon Gaddy also made the most of his playing time by hitting two downtown three point shots. the boys had a run away 54 to 38 win. game 3 of pool play continiued to show Tyheim's crazy bringing the heat defense. Tyheim was able to break the much shorter and skillful guard to a emtional breakdown. Rodney and Breyon continued to show the nation how good they are. Breyon was just unreal along with his side kick Rodney. Adrice did a great job og blocking shots. Adrice attitude along with what god has given him is scary. We call him the glass due to his shot blocking. Kevin Marks came of the bench and did a super job. Stadi also did a great job in the area of defense. The team won looking away 50 to 35. big lost in the victory, Tyheim pulled a groin with 45 seconds in the 4th period. the 5'9 swing man would be missed. Championship bracket started with a bang, Breyon lead the boys to a 62 to 23 beatdown of Myrtle beach select. Rodney Herenton displayed why he is considered top guard in virginia. Willie, Aton, Stadi and kevin has a chance to show their high skill level. the 5th grade boys took over the game in the 2nd half. Game two of championship round was much like the rest. The Panthers took an early lead and played solid defense. once again Adrice kepted the team from North Carolina out the paint. Adrice took over the glass from the the start. Noth carolina impact was force to take outside shots. the 66 to 43 win was solid. The Quarter final game was a site to see. The Panthers jumped out to a 10 point lead. Lead by Adrice and Rodney the boys was ready to roll,however the Wilson blue devils had another plan. Panthers won a heated overtime game a month prior to the nationals. Adrice picked up his 2nd personal in the 1st period. the blue Devils made a run in the 2nd period. Breyon also got in foul trouble. blue devils attacked the basket with the Panthers bigs on the bench. Rodney stepped it up and took over the game in the 2nd half. Adrice an Breyon could only watch in the 4th period as Deandrea Overton went to work. The 44 to 51 upset    was tough to swollow for the Panthers.Next for the Panthers was the Quarter Finals Consolation game. Rodney and Ny'reese played hard and got the boys off to a strong start. The 52 to 32 win over the Ohio King James team was impressive. Adrice played his best game. Double double for the big. Willi and Kevin also had a strong game. Jaquez Harrison came off the bench and had an outstanding game on defense. The Panthers final game of tournament was team out of Texas. Tri-city hoop Squad did not stand a chace. The Panthers ate them for dinner. The 44 to 15 win was a outstanding way to end tournament. Jaquez and Brandon had a great game. Kevin and willie just conitinue to play hard. The 5th place was outstanding for the community and team. 

 Blue Devils summer Jam 

Breyon Gaddy and Rodney Herenton had a outstanding tournament. Rodney put on a show against the North Carolina State Champs. The North Carolina Hustle did not have a chance. Rodney did a move in the 4th quarter that had the gym in a frenzy. Rodney was just too much for the Hustle to handle. Breyon continued his strong play by dominating the paint. Adrice Adebayo added in on the block party. The two combined for 12 block shots. The 6"5 center was a force in the middle. Ny'Reese Moore continued to play the off guard position like know other. Ny'Reese kepted the carolina team on their hills the whole game. Tyheim Privott was all over the court. Tyheim's defense is unreal said coach Mcghee. The 20 point lead was impressive by the Panthers. The Championship game was something to see. The Wilson Blue Devils came out the gate like a bat out of hell. Kylia Sykes and Deandra Overton came to play. Kylia hit three midrange jump shots that had the Blue Devils crowed on their feet. Deandra Overton hit two trey's back to back. The Blue devils took a 10 point lead at a blink of an eye. Rodney and crew could not make a shot. Before the half Rodney drove to the basket for a bucket to cut the lead to six. Second half was much of the same, the Blue Delvils came out to knock the Panthers out. Adrice and Breyon decided enough was enough. Edrice had 8 block shots in the 2nd half and Breyon had 4. Roney, Ny'Reese and Tyheim got out on the shooters. The game shifted the Panthers way. Rodney and Ny' reese took the game over. Rodney's abilty to get to the basket was amazing. Breyon just dominated the paint with 14 rebounds. Jacqez came of the bench and played lock down defense on a very good point guard. Ny'Reese big three point shot with less then a minute put the boys ahead. Blue Devils tied the game,therefore taking it to overtime. Rodney got the ball in overtime and gave the crowed a treat. The and one move to the rack was just incredible. The blue devils did not score. Rodney came down and thrilled the crowed again. The Panthers won the overtime brawl with heart and toughness!       

Garner Flames invitational 

The third grade Panthers had their first tournament. Trey Bailey had a super tournament. Trey averaged 20 points,9 rebounds and 3 steals a game. Trey lead the Panthers to four straight wins. Samuel Herenton also had a outstanding tournament. Samuel drives to the basketball were impressive. Samuel averaged 15 points and 5 steals a game. Samuel is a scoring machine! Nahlij Raley also had a great tournament. Nahlij made four back to back drives to the basket converting all of them. Nalij has a old school game that works. The three guard combo are hard to stop. Monteze' Hawkins did a very good job in the area of defense. Monteze' energy on defense helped the Panthers each game. Ashley James and Kiyaun tiggle played solid ball also. Kiyaun rebounding was outstanding! Ashley James defense was consistant in all four games.  

2010 6th Grade State Championship 

Breyon Gaddy and Rodney Herenton maybe one of the top big man guard combination in the country. Breyon 6'2 225 is a match up nightmare for teams. Breyon dominated the state tournament by using size and power to score. Rodney is on another level this year. Rodney was in Coach Puncho's dog house last year. A bootcamp like fall and winter workout program has played off. Rodney took over the State championship game against the Suffolk Blazers. The 5"9 point guard could not be stopped. Rodney's and one move to the basket in the 4th period was kobe like! Ny'reese Moore and Tyheim Privott changes the Panthers. Ny'Reese game is smooth and crafty. The 5"8 off guard has a nose for the basket. Ny'Reese made big plays throughout the tournament. Tyheim is like a red bull drink on the court. This kid is a ball of energy that keeps going and going. The 5"10 small forward can compete with 6"2 bigs for rebounds. Tyheim is a must have for every team. Tyheim may not be leading scorer, however you cannot win without him. Jacqez Harrison and Da'quan Boyette had outstanding state tournament also. Jacqez defense is old school. Jacqez shuts down top scores from opposing teams game after game. Da'quan key three point shots in the semi and finals proved he was a prime time player. The shot that was felt in the guts of the Suffolk coaching staff was made by Brandon Gaddy. Brandon's three point dagger put Suffolk to sleep. Bradon trey's were consistant all weekend long. Bradon just had a solid State tournament. The Panthers are playing in the Division 2 and Division 1 Nationals in Hampton,va.    

2010 State Championships 

Willie Herenton lead the 5th grade team to a division two state title with 65% from the three point line. Trey Bailey and Samuel Herenton had a great tournament. The two 3rd graders are hard to handle. John king and Tommy Banks had a strong tournament also. Tommy Banks dominated the tournament at times. The Power forward has the ability to rebound and dribble coast to coast like a guard. Markel Hodge did an outstanding job in the area of defense. Markel was able to hit key shots when needed. Michael Burke dominated the boards each game. Michael rebounding was just outstanding! 18 rebounds per game and 24 in the final four game. Zaire Barnes and Hanson Hatcher played key rolls also. Jack Markovich hustle is fun to watch, Jack's defense was great the entire tournament. The Panthers won the State by playing pit bull defense and keeping a positive attitude. Willie really showed they he maybe top 5th grade guard in the State. Combination of speed and toughness. The tournament had Know match for point shooter.  

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

Lead by Rodney Herenton the 5th grade Panthers finished 2nd place in the state. The team roster filled with 4th graders and even two 2nd grade players were able to reach the championship game. Rodney will have Boo williams and many other coaches calling one day. By the way, Willie Herenton is just as good. Willie had a great State tournament also. Although just a 4th grade,willie displayed toughness when needed. Tommy Banks also another 4th grader had a good state tournament. Tommy is a bull on the boards. Tommy can rebound with any kid in the country. The team will compete in the division two National Chapionship in Florida.

National championship

Rodney Herenton took the new look Panthers to florida with something to prove. The first game had the Panthers looking for answers, Texas Bulls stopped the Panthers before the started. The pool place lost was tough on the team. The boys had two pool games remaining,therefore the team needed to win both. Rodney put on a show against the team from Florida. Rodney after a strong one on one close door meeting with the coach came out and played like a champion. Willie Herenton had solid game. Breon Gaddy and twin brother Brandon stepped it up in a big way. Big baby as he is called, Breon block shots changed the game. Branden three point shooting was solid. John King also came of the bench and played solis defense. The final pool play game was team from Indiana. The Panthers chewed up the midwest team from start to finish. Rodney showed the crowd why he maybe one of the top kids in the country. This kid is a manchild when he comes to play said coach Mcghee after the game. Breon really had a great game. Breon reminds you of big baby of celtics. this kid got soft hands and quick feet. The team made it to Championship play. another team from Texas was up next. The team had a 6"1 center that had solid basketball IQ. The gym was packed with alot of support for both teams. Ocean Potion came to support the panthers. The Panthers had fans cheering and texas had a big fan base. willie and Branden had a coming out party. Branden three point bomb in the first period shook the gym. Willie three point shot that put the Panthers ahead had the Texas fans shaking their heads. Breon got the big man in foul trouble,therefore having his way in the paint. Next game the D.C. Pistons, Know match for the Panthers. Rodney and willie had solid games. Breon continued to control the game. Breon at 5"10 and 190 is hard to deal with. Daquan and John also had a great game. John another 4th grader played hard. John is a pit bull on defense. The final was next for the young Panthers. The team from boston was tough to deal with. the team was lead by 6"2 center that could play. Boston started strong with a 12 to 3 run. Rodney continued to be solid,however the Panthers shot 33% from the floor. Breon foul trouble in the first period also hurt. Willie and John played hard and got several key steals in 2nd period to close lead to ten points. Da'Quan Boyette came off the bench and hit a couple of key three point shots.The team had a great  run reaching the final four. The boys placed 4th losing to Chicago Heat. Breon Gaddy will improve and be hard to deal with. Rodney Harenton and Willie Harenton are special.

AAU STATE 2009

 Virginia Panthers had a great season due to the never give up attitude. The 3rd grade Panthers earned a 2nd place finish in the Virginia State Championship. The Panthers took a lost on the first day one of the tournament. the double overtime lost to the Norfolk wildcats was a thriller. the Nofolk wildcats was favored to win the tournament,however that did not phase the Panthers. The gym was packed as the Panthers and Wildcats went back and forth like two heavywieght champions in a tittle fight. Willie ,Stadi,Atwon and kj battled the Wildcats guards all night. the lost was tough,however the boys learned a lesson from it. The Wildcat fans ran on the floor asthough they won the NCAA tittle. Coach mcghee told the team to remember how the Wildcat fans acted and use it to feul victory if we meet again. The next day the Panthers played another Wildcat team. The Panthers took out frusration on the Tidewater Wildcats by crushing them by 42 points. Willie,KJ and Antwon had a field day against the undersized team. The team was ready for rematch against the Wildcats who got shocked with a upset lost in the 2nd round by the Hookies.
The 2nd meeting with the Wildcats had double meaning. The losing team would be out
of tournament. The Panthers was on a mission this day. The 23 point thumping of the
Wildcats was like target practice at a shooting range. The Wildcats had knowhere to hide,like fish in a pond. Stadi,KJ,willie and antwon put on a show for the packed crowd. Antwon three point bombs and stadi ability to drive to the basket could not be stopped.Willie stop and go hesitation moves had the crowd standing up all night. Kj defense was too much for the Wildcats, 5 steals in three minutes had the Wildcats guards and coach shaking their heads in disbelief. The crowd of mentors and tutors from Hampton University gave the boys the edge this night. Tommy continued to control the boards with 18 rebounds.Next up for the Panthers were the Denbigh Wildcats, just like the night before the Panthers destroyed the Wildcats. The Denbigh team could not handle the press,therefore capitalizing on turnovers. Antwon three points bombs sunk the wildcats hopes along with willie ability shoot the short jump shot. Tommy and devonte had solid games. 20 rebounds by tommy was impressive. The Hampton Hoyas was the next team in the way of the Panthers. The Panthers took a 20 point lead before the hoyas could shake hands. Antwone three points bombs,willie slashing to the basket and Kj's continued strong play was just too much for the hoyas. Tommy and Devonte also had solid play. The boys fought
their way back to the championship game against the Hookies from northern virginia. The three's did not fall,the slashes to the basket were stuffed by solid zone defense,turnovers were against not in favor of the Panthers and legs were gone. The Hookies did their homework and earned an A on the exam. The boys came out with cold shooting and the Hookies took a ten point lead. The boys fought back only down by 6 at half. The undersized but talented guard from the Hookiies gave the Panthers fits all game. The Panthers were able to press the guard by changing to a half court press. 4 turnovers by the Hookie guard put the boys back in the game,however 6 consecutive points by the bigs had the boys down by ten again. The 11 point defeat was tough,however the 2nd place finish was outstanding for a new team. The organization is pround of the effort by the team.         



National Championship 2008



Out the gate the Panthers took on the Memphis Wildcat team, the boys took a lead in the early going due to the stong play of Stadi and antwon. Atwon bombs from the three point spot was on target. Stadi had the Memphis dedenders backing up. The solid zone defense had the Memphis offense swimming in oil. The second half was a different story, the tennessee team fought back and overcame a tough and motivated Panther team and won a hard fought game. The 2nd game was against showtime out of Michigan, another tough draw for the Panthers. The Panthers went toe to toe with the Detroit team. Once again the Panthers played strong,however the boys came up short. Willie could not find his mark. Stadi held the team together with solid play. Antwon hit some key shots,however not enough rebounds or bench help to overcome the solid play of Showtime. Coach game plan was perfect from the start,the big man from Showtime had got in foul trouble due to the boys going to the basket. The team allowed the smaller group to score from the outside. "The team relaxed, the big man got in trouble" Coach Mcghee said. Both Memphis and Showtime finished in the top 10 in the 2008 National Championship. The next team on the Panthers list was the team from New Orleans, the Panthers came out of their shell and had a
outstanding game. Willie,antwon and stadi was at it again. The trio had a great game in the area of shooting. Tommy had a super game on the glass. The team next game was an team out of Cali, the boys once again had a solid game. antwon and willie had a super game. The 14 point victory was outstanding! The Maryland bulldogs were next on the plate. The overcoached team was not a matched team for the Panthers. Stadi,willie and antwon had a great game. John came off the bench and played super defense. Samual and trey 2nd graders had solid games also. The Panthers were one game away from final four of the National classics division. The hungry, determine, and battle tested Panthers wanted to pull the big time upset. The Slam and Jam Hoyass out of Washington,DC. Let's take you back, Stadi comes down and knocks down a three point shot from the top of the key, Panthers
steal the ball and Willie nailed a 12 foot jump shot, Panthers steals again Stadi hit's another three,hoyas's missed one of two from the foul line, Antwon hits three and the crowd goes nuts,down by one Kj gets pass and Panthers fall short,however the game put the boys on the map. The overtime game was one to remember!



2008-2009


The Panthers started the new season in Petersburg,va. the Metro holiday tournament
was a showcase for Rodney herenton. Rodney helped the Panthers to a third place finished. Playing with a team of fourth graders,each game had matchup problems for the team. Rodney lead the tournament in the area of points per game and rebounds." This kid is special" said Coach Mcghee. Maybe its the la sunshine. Rodney born in Southern California showed signs of being born a star. Stadi had a solid tournament,the 4th grader continue to improve in the area of defense. Stadi and Willie had a solid tournament. The two guards held their own with the 5th graders. Carlos had a super tournament,scoring clutch shots in each game. Kj,John and tommy played solid defense throughout the tournament. The 3rd place finish was earned. The 4th grade State tournament started strong,the Pantherspounded the hampton hoyas out the gate. Jeremiah had a strong game,the point guardhandled the ball and ran the team like a general. Willie had an impressive 2nd period. willie put a show with 4 steals and 10 points. Kj had his way with the hoyas,Kj reverse layup before the half had the whole team off the bench. Kj took over the game with solid defense. Tommy and zaire rebounding was the key to a big win. john three point jump shot and layup in the 4th period finalized the victory. the U-turn team out of Richmond,Va was the next victim for the Panthers. Jeremiah once again was solid along with Willie and Kj. Willie and Kj could not be stopped,the two long guards drove to the basket without much resistance. Tommy 17 rebounds was outstanding! John also had another solid game. Samual and Raqual came off the bench and continued the solid play. The boys 20 point win was a warm up for the showdown with the Virginia,Beach Heat. Jeremiah had a super game, the point guard drove to basket and scored when the Panthers need it the most. Kj played like a manchild against the Heat. Willie pushed the ball the length of the floor causing the heat Coach to call several timeouts. John came off the bench and continued to play solid defense. The 15 point win was very impressive. The rematch wth the Norfolk wildcats was a battle from the begining. The Panthers threw the first blow with a 16 to 4 run. the Panthers took a 13 point lead to half time. Kj and willie put on a show in the first half along with Jemeiah. The wildcats came out in the 2nd half swinging, the lead melted like snow on a sunny day. the 4th period had it all,lead changing,shot blocking,turnovers,three point shots and defensive stands. The game drew on lookers such Boo willims and Andre dawkins. The crowd was on
the edge of the court inching closer with every shot. The double overtime defeat was tough to swollow,however the boys will remember this game for a long time,what a blessing being able to coach such a thrilling and competitive game. The following game against the Hookies was tough for the Panthers. The double overtime lose showed in more was then one. Willie,Kj and Tommy lacked energy for the defending Champions from Northern,Va. The hookies big men shot high percentage 10 foot baskets all night. Willie,John and Jemeiah could not press the hookies full court due to great ball movement. The team lost and placed 4th in the state of Virginia. another great job for the Panthers!   



2009 National Championship Lexington,KY 
   


The boys traveled to Lexington,Ky for the 4th grade Nationals,this National tournament was a challenge for the team. Traveling with three 2nd graders and three third grade boys, the experience of John,Willie and tommy would be key. The team would take a thumping to the arkansas Hawks. the largest lost of the Panthers history. the 27 point defeat was tough to handle for Coach Mcghee. Willie,Tommy and John did not play strong. the Hawks the number 4th ranked team in the Nation proved it. The 2nd day was tough also,the boys played a strong team out of new Jersey. the first period was a repeat of day one,missed shots,turnovers and poor shooting. coach Puncho gave the team an chewing out at the half,the team responded by playing like champions. John 4 steals got the boys going along with willie 8pts in a row. Jake had some big rebounds in the third and fourth period. The team made an 18 to 4 run,that's Panther basketball! the boys came up short,however prove they could step up when need. Willie and John both had big games. Trey,Hanson and Samual also had
strong showing. Although the three did not play much they never had a attitude. This three boys are always ready to play,its a joy to be around respectful children.



2009 National Championship Coaco,Beach FL



The 5th grade Panthers practiced hard and was ready to ball. The first game was a
tough draw. team from Texas was tough and disicpline. Rodney had a tough first
period,the talented 5th grader could not get it going. Brandon and Breon kepted the
boys in the game with big rebounds and put backs. Willie had a support
system,therefore he could just let it fly and he did. Willie scored 12 points and
looked to step his game up. shawn also had a strong game,defense is needed and
shuan gave the texas team fits. the game had plenty of talent on the floor,the
texas team had great shooters and a strong point guard. the guards battled for four
periods,however three 12 foot jumps shots by the bulls big man sealed the game.
rodney had a strong 4th period,however the Panthers had know answer for the swing
forward with a pure set shot from mid range. The Panthers had to win the next two
games to get out of pool play. The next team had two 6 footers that could run,however the Panthers came out swinging like mike Tyson in his prime. Rodney woke up and put on a show. the 5"3 guard could not be stopped. Brandon,Breon and Shuan played great. John and Willie continued their srong play. The third game was was a chess match,the incredible shooting indiana team against the pressing Panthers. The two guard could just shoot the rock like larry Bird. Rodney once again took over the game from the word go. Rodney played like a bat out of hell,the Midwest team could not stop team rodney. Assistant Coach Dee said "wow did he just do that" a reverse under the backboard layup. Willie and shuan continued to play solid defense and offense for the Panthers. Daquan hit two three point shots that
put the scrappy boys from indiana away. The first round of championship play the boys drew the detroit pistons out of Maryland. willie had a monster game,the 4th grader hit big shots to keep the Panthers close,however the three point shot from the corner in the 4th period put the boys ahead for good. Daquan tough defense continued to nag opposing point guards. Rodney took over the 4th period,coach Mcghee allowed rodney to spread the floor and become kobe like. Breon and Brandon played big. Brandon's two long distance three point shots sealed the deal. what a great win! the panthers were about to play against an very good texas team,the team would face a 6'3 giant. The Fan base was the biggest the Panthers faced,however the Ocean Potion company was in full force to support the boys.willie and Breon had a great first half. Willie and Breon's early morning workout paid off. Willie just went at the boys from Texas. Rodney had another strong showing against an good team. Rodney got the big man in trouble,therefore forcing the coach to play with smaller lineup. Shuan,John and Daquan played super defense throught the game. The boys put the breaks on the high powered texas team with aggressive in your face hard noise basketball. Another incredible win for the boys! The final four game was tough for the Panthers. The 6'2 big man from Africa was too much for the Panthers. It was like a man playing with boys. Rodney,Brandon and Breon could not get it going. the Panthers was down by 11 at the half. After an firm talk from coach Mcghee,Rodney went at the Giant. Boston's big man got two quick fouls,however the Panthers poor shooting 33% kepted the benagles ahead. Shuan,Willie and John played hard. the trio created turnovers throughtout the 2nd half,although not enough to win the game,the trio showed heart. It was a devastating lost for the team,however one boys had a third place game to play on Sunday. The 3rd place game
went down to the wire. Willie once again got off to a fast start,the 4th grader continued to shine in all phases of the game. Once again the Panthers faced a 6'1 big man that had game. The Chicago team went ahead by 7 points in the first peroid,however Breon the Panther big man two 8 foot jump shots putting the boys within 3 points. The Chicago team Big man made 6 points in a row,however Willie and Rodney Matched him basket per basket. John also came in to the game and played great defense. Shuan and troy made an impact in the area of defense in the 2nd period. Just before the half Willie hit a 5o foot shot tying the game. Breon started the 2nd half in foul trouble,therefore allowing the Chicago big to have a
super game. Rodney and Isaiah drove to the basket with success,but the Panthers
could not pull away. The game came down to a final shot and the team fail to inbound the ball,therefore allowing the game to slip away. the Panthers should hold their heads up high. The final four was not easy to reach by any means. the team represented the state of Virginia with class. finishing 4th in the division 2 National is oustanding! Hard work does pay off!!!!!!!
