The BRUINS program can be broken down into 3 distinct phases…
| PHASE I – When we began the Bruins Baseball Club we were interested in developing a group of skilled baseball players that would feed into the DTQ little league all-star team. The MAIN CRITICAL ELEMENT in Phase I was to teach the FUNDAMENTALS of the game in hitting, throwing, and catching a baseball. Each phase has an overriding critical element that must be mastered in order to move to the next level. As 9 year olds the team finished 2nd in the district tournament and as 10 year olds the team won the district, state, and regional titles. The goal for Phase I was to develop this team for a run at Williamsport but after a team meeting the decision was to concentrate on travel baseball because the field dimensions were better suited for accomplishing our goals in Phase II. We modified our goals in Phase I to focus on Cooperstown’s NATC as 12 year olds and to ready the players for Middle School baseball. |
|
PHASE II – began in the fall of 2006 as the boys were “rising 12 year olds,” and continue through 2009. The idea is to play “up” against older competition in the fall 2008 and ready the players for the try-outs in school ball. All the players made their respective middle school teams in 2008 and most started. In Phase II the critical elements are WORK ETHIC, DISICPLINE, AND RESPECT needed in order to get to Phase III. The team’s guest instructors will include Coaches Brian Fitzgerald, Danny Raley, Michael Coangelo, Danny Beverely, Juan Pinella, and others. Over the next three years the focus will be getting the players prepared for high school baseball as Freshman. To that end we will be playing older competition the next three years including high school teams throughout the fall 2007/2008 and no recreational leagues. We will play 2-3 select tournaments from September through December 2008. |
