2008 SEASON - GAME 1

The Victors opened their 2008 season with a lop-sided 11-0 win over Cambridge Springs.  The Victors kept offensive pressure on the visitors for most of the game.  Scoring for the Victors were Amanda Lewis 3, Kaitlyn Kissell 3, Kim Maasz 2, Jill Blaszczyk, Hillary Hoffman and Katherine Hoffman.  Assisting on the goals were Kayley Jones 3, Nicole Patsy 2, Emily Carlin, Katherine Hoffman, Kim Maasz and Kelsey Weibel.  Recording the shutout in goal were Nicole Shellenbarger, Gabby Parker and Maura Connell.

The JV's began their season with a 2-1 win over Cambridge Springs.  Scoring for the JV Victors were Gabby Parker and Kelsey Weibel.

 



Tuesday, September 2
2008 SEASON - GAME 2

The Victors hosted Slippery Rock in an independent home game on Tuesday.  The Victors came out strong offensively in the first 15 minutes keeping the Rockets off-balance and not allowing them to get into their game.  Four minutes in Kelsey Weibel easily finished a through pass from Hillary Hoffman to put the Victors on top.  With 9 minutes remaining in the first half Kayley Jones redirected a cross from Taylor Arthurs for the Victor's second score.  That score held till halftime.  Amanda Lewis, the Victor's leading scorer, was injured in the first half and sat out the whole second half.  With 26 minutes remaining Alex Vuletich got uncovered on a free kick and finished it for the Rock's first goal.  With 15 minutes remaining Kaitlyn Kissell finished a pass from Kayley Jones to put the game out of reach.  Nicole Shellenbarger got the win in goal for the Victors.

 

The JV game resulted in a tie Slippery Rock 1-1.  Rebecca Sweny scored the goal for the Victors.



Saturday, September 6
2008 SEASON - GAME 3

The Victors traveled to Warren for their third independent game of the season.  The Dragons scored first in the third minute after beating the Villa defender.  The 1-0 score held till halftime in a hotly contested first half.  With the wind in the second half the Victors started to play better offensively.  Kayley Jones scored on a penalty kick in the sixth minute after Jill Blaszczyk was taken down in the box.  With 20 minutes remaining the Dragons scored again off a defensive miscue.  The Dragons put the game away for good with another goal with 8 minutes remaining - again off a defensive miscue.  The Victors meet Fairview Monday at 6 in Fairview for their first league game.

 The JV's pulled off a 1-0 win thanks to a first half goal from Carly Imler.

 

 



Monday, September 8
2008 SEASON - GAME 4
Villa traveled to Fairview for one of the biggest games in the early part of the season.  Fairview was sporting a 52-1-1 region record and was looking to add to that stat at the expense of Villa.  The Victors and the Tigers battled to a 0-0 half time tie.  Early in the second half Kayley Jones took a ball directed by Christina Duris and easily beat the keeper to the wide side.  Chrissy Keck, from Fairview, tied the score later in the half.  Chrissy Keck scored again with two minutes remaining to put the Tigers up 2-1.  With 10 seconds remaining Katherine Hoffman tied the score when she received a Tiger goal kick and immediately struck in back towards goal crossing just under the crossbar with .9 seconds remaining on the clock forcing overtime.  Seven minutes into OT Emily Carlin directed a ball to Kayley Jones at the top of the 18, Kayley faked right and turned left and slotted the ball just off the goal post into the far corner for the win for Villa's first Region win.  Special congratulations to the Villa defense of Alexus Edinger, Alyse Sambuchino, Hillary Hoffman, Katherine Hoffman, Nicole Shellenbarger and Christina Duris for a well played game.

Wednesday, September 10
2008 SEASON - GAME 5

The Victors traveled to Seneca for their second Region 3 opponent.  The Victors left with an 8-0 shutout of the Bobcats.  Kaitlyn Kissell led all scorers with the hat trick and Kayley Jones, Emily Carlin, Jill Blaszczyk, Kelsey Weibel and Christina Duris each added single tallies.  Assisting on the goals were Kayley Jones, Nicole Patsy, Christina Duris, Emily Carlin, Kaitlyn Kissell and Kim Maasz.  Sharing the shutout in goal were Gabby Parker, Maura Connell and Rebecca Sweny. 

The Victors JV team blanked Seneca 6-0.  Goals were scored by Kelsey Weibel 3, Matty Reichel 2 and Kim Maasz.  Rebecca Sweny recorded the shutout in goal.

 

 



Thursday, September 11
2008 SEASON - GAME 6

The Victors traveled to Hermitage, Pa. for the first ever game with the Kennedy Catholic Eagles.  Playing without Amanda Lewis the Victors were able to put together a 6-0 win.  Both Emily Carlin and Kaitlyn Kissell had 2 goals apiece with Kayley Jones and Kelsey Weibel adding single tallies.  Assisting on the goals were Emily Carlin 2, Kim Maasz, Kaitlyn Kissell, Jill Blaszczyk, Kelsey Weibel, Kayley Jones and Taylor Arhturs.  Maura Connell, Gabby Parker and Rebecca Sweny shared the shutout in goal.

On Friday the Villa JV team stunned the Mercyhurst Lakers with a 4-1 victory.   Kaitlyn Kissell acounted for all 4 Victor goals.

 



Monday, September 15
2008 SEASON - GAME 7

The Villa Victors hosted the Girard Yellowjackets and as usual with past games between the two teams the Jackets brought their "A" defense.  The Jackets allowed only 1 goal in the first half when Emily Carlin finished off passes from Kaitlyn Kissell and Hillary Hoffman at the 20 minute mark.  The Jackets continually stymied the Victor's offense.  Ten minutes into the second half Kayley Jones finished off her free kick that bounced off the Girard wall.  With 18 minutes remaining Kaitlyn Kissell finished a cross from Jillian Blaszczyk giving the Victors a 3-0 lead.  Nicole Shellenbarger, Maura Connell and Gabby Parker shared the shutout in goal.

 

The JV team shutout the Jackets JV team 2-0 behind goals from Mattie Reichel and Kaitlyn Kissell.  Rebecca Sweny got the shutout in goal.



Wednesday, September 17
2008 SEASON - GAME 8

The Victors played host to the visiting North East Grapepickers in a Region 3 matchup.  Kaitlyn Kissell started the scoring 29 seconds into the first half when she finished a Emily Carlin pass.  10 minutes later Amanda Lewis stole the ball from a defender and scored unassisted.  With 5 minutes remaining Nicole Patsy finished the first half scoring when she converted a drop pass from Haley Strasser.  The Victors continued their offensive pressure in the second half scoring 5 goals in 10 minutes.  Kayley Jones had 2, Emily Carlin, Taylor Arthurs and Nicole Patsy had single tallies.  Assisting were Emily Carlin 2, Kim Maasz and Erica Weber.  Kaitlyn Kissell, scoring the first goal of the game, scored the last goal with 5 minutes remaining with an assist from Kimberly Maasz.  Sharing the shutout in goal were Nicole Shellenbarger, Gabby Parker and Maura Connell.

The JV's also shut out North East 5-0.  Scoring for the JV's were Maria Neville 2, Mattie Reichel, Kim Maasz and Kelsey Weibel.  Rebecca Sweny recorded the shutout in goal.  On Friday the JV's defeated McDowell 3-2 behinds goals from Kaitlyn Kissell(2) and Emily Carlin.



Monday, September 22
2008 SEASON - GAME 9

The Victors traveled to Waterford to take on the Ft LeBoeuf Bisons.  Five minutes into the game, from a feed from Emily Carlin, Taylor Arthurs scored off a goalie parry of her first shot.  The Bison's defense stiffened and kept the Victors from scoring again until the 19 minute mark when Kaitlyn Kissell finished a Kayley Jones pass.  Six minutes later Christina Duris deflected a shot off a Bison defender for an unassisted score.  Thirty seconds later Kaitlyn Kissell scored again off a feed from Emily Carlin.  The 4-0 held till halftime.  Four minutes into the second half Kayley Jones scored finishing a thru ball from Kaitlyn Kissell.  With 24 minutes remaining Jilliam Blaszczyk deflected a ball off a defender for a score.  With 16 minutes remaining Kayley Jones scored again off athe third assist of the game from Emily Carlin.  The Bison's Nikke Cole scored with 5 minutes making the final score 7-1.

The JVs won 2-1 behind goals from Kelsey Weibel and Mary Wilcox. 

 



Wednesday, September 24
2008 SEASON - GAME 10

The Victors hosted the undefeated Harbocreek Huskies in a Region 3 matchup.  The Victors outshot the Huskies in the first half but weren't able to find the back of the net.  After a scoreless first half the Victors continued to squander goal scoring opportunities will poor shot selection.  With 15 minutes remaining Erin Yount was able to break free and score for the Huskies which proved to be the only score of the game.

The JV's played the Huskies to a 0-0 tie with Rebecca Sweny getting the shutout in goal. 

 



Monday, September 29
2008 SEASON - GAME 11
The Victors traveled to Lawrence Park for the first of two games versus the Iroquois Braves.  For the first twenty minutes of the half the two teams appeared evenly matched with neither scoring a goal.  With 17 minutes remaining Kayley Jones scored off a pass from Kaitlyn Kissell.  Two minutes later Jillian Blaszczyk finished a corner kick from Kelsy Weibel.  Less than 30 seconds later Jones scored again off a feed from Emily Carlin.  With 10 minutes remaining Kissell finished a Weibel corner kick to put the Victors up 4-0 at the half.  Fifteen minutes into the second half Kissell scored off assists from Blaszczyk and Jones, which proved to be the final goal of the game.  Earning the shutout were Gabby Parker, Maura Connell and Becca Sweny.

Wednesday, October 1
2008 SEASON - GAME 12
The Victors played host to the Fairview Tigers for a Region 3 rematch.  Fairview came out strong and aggressive in the first half and built a 3 goal lead.  The Victors responded in the second half when Emily Carlin finished a Kayley Jones deflection.  Some questionable calls and non-calls allowed Fairview the opportunity to score again and ice the game with a 4-1 win.

Monday, October 6
2008 SEASON - GAME 13

The Victors played host to the improved Seneca Bobcats.  Four minutes into the game Kayley Jones opened the scoring for the Victors by intercepting a pass and drilling it into the corner of the goal.  Two minutes later Kaitlyn Kissell finished off a Kelsey Weibel cross.  With 26 minutes remaining Kissell again scored off an assist from Jones.  The 3-0 score held till halftime.  Ten minutes into the second half Kissell scored her third goal of the night when she caught the keeper way off her line and easily beat her to goal with a long ball.  Twenty minutes in Nicole Patsy used her stomach to finish off a Jones cross for the final goal of the game.  Maura Connell and Gabby Parker shared the shutout in goal.

The JV's ended up with a 1-1 tie with Mary Wilcox providing the lone goal for Villa. 

 



Wednesday, October 8
2008 SEASON - GAME 14

The Victors traveled to Girard for windy, rainy second matchup versus the Yellowjackets.  As usual Girard brought its best defense to the game.  The Victors continued to apply offensive pressure but the Yellowjackets kept their poise.  Sixteen minutes into the game Kaitlyn Kissell, off a pass from Kayley Jones, put a move on her defender and slotted the ball to the far side from 20 yards out.  Five minutes later Jones scored from the 18 off a pass from Alyse Sambuchino.  It wasn't until 20 minutes into the second half when the Victors would again find the back of the net for their final goal.  With Kelsey Wiebel taking the corner, Jones' header was deflected by a defender but Nicole Patsy was there to score off the rebound.   Maura Connell, Nicole Shellenbarger and Gabby Parker shared the shutout in goal.

The JV's won 2-0 with goals from Mattie Reichel and Julia Lucas.  Rebecca Sweny got the shutout in goal. 

 



Monday, October 13
2008 SEASON - GAME 15

The Victors traveled to North East for their second matchup of the season against the Grapepickers.  Less than 4 minutes into the game Kelsey Weibel scored off an assist from Taylor Arthurs.  With 22 minutes remaining Kayley Jones finished a Weibel cross.  With 18 minutes remaining Hillary Hoffman finished the first half scoring when she drilled in a free kick.  Kaitlyn Kissell scored the only goal of the second half with assists from Jones and Arthurs.  Nicole Shellenbarger, Maura Connell and Gabby Parker shared the shutout in goal. 

The JV's also won 3-1 behind 2 goals by Kelsey Weibel and a lone goal by Mary Wilcox. 

 



Wednesday, October 15
2008 SEASON - GAME 16

The Victors played host to the Ft. LeBoeuf Bisons.  The Victors came away with a 8-0 victory to improve their Region 3 record to 10-2 and 13-3 overall.  Emily Carlin led all scorers with the hat trick as well as 2 assists.  Kaitlyn Kissell scored twice, Kayley Jones and Jill Blaszczyk each contributed a goal and an assist and Kim Maasz also added a goal.  Also having assists were Christina Duris, Taylor Arthurs, Mary Wilcox and Hillary Hoffman.  Maura Connell was the shutout goalie.

The JV's also won by a 3-0 score.  Mattie Reichel had 2 goals and Haley Strasser added a lone goal.  Rebecca Sweny was the shutout goalie. 

 



Monday, October 20
2008 SEASON - GAME 17

The Victors traveled to Harborcreek for a rematch against the Huskies.  The Huskies scored first midway through the first half on a breakaway.  A minute into the 2nd half they scored again off a misplayed ball by a Villa defender.  Although the Victors outshot the Huskies they just couldn't get it past the Harborcreek keeper.  With the loss the Victors clinched third place in Region 3 and will have to wait to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the D-10 playoffs.

The JV's also lost to Harbocreek by the identical 2-0 score.



Wednesday, October 22
2008 SEASON - GAME 18

The Victors hosted the Iroquois Braves for their final regular season game.  17 minutes into the game Kayley Jones finished a Emily Carlin pass for the first score of the game.  Ten minutes later Kaitlyn Kissell finished a Christina Duris cross for the Victor's second score.  Jones again found the back of the net off a pass from Kelsey Weibel with 8 minutes remaining.  Less than a minute later Kissell scored again off an assist from Alyse Sambuchino.  In the second half Taylor Arthurs scored two minutes into the half off a pass from Julia Lucas.  Lucas scored at the 24 minute mark assisted by Hillary Hoffman.  With 8 minutes remaining Alyse Sambuchino scored for the final score  of the game with Duris assisting on the goal.  Gabby Parker, Nicole Shellenbarger, Maura Connell and Rebecca Sweny shared the shutout in goal. 

The Victors finished third in Region 3, behind Harborcreek and Fairview, with a Region record of 11-3 and an overall record of 14-4.



Tuesday, October 28
2008 SEASON ENDS

The Victors played Fairview in the semi-finals of D-10 AA playoffs.  Fairview was victorious by a 6-1 score.  Kaitlyn Kissell scored the lone Victor goal off an assist from Emily Carlin.  The Victors end their season with a respectable 14-5 record and look forward to improving on it in 2009.  Thank you to the departing seniors, Nicole Patsy, Maura Connell, Gabby Parker, Megan Hoffman, Katherine Hoffman and Chelsea Lasky, for thier leadership and effort throughout the season.  The Coaches hope that everyone recognizes that we have an opportunity to improve as a team and will work towards that goal for 2009.
