MORE AWARDS FOR SENIORS

With the conclusion of the school year, Villain wrestlers, once again found themselves in the spotlight. On Thursday May 17, Bishop celebrated the Spring sports awards. Senior Alex Valitutto was awarded the Coaches Award by the Athletic Department for being the male athlete who, in the views of the coaching staff, demonstrated the greatest ability to be a positive member of the sports teams to which he belonged. Patrick O'Shea was awarded the Male Scholar Athlete Award for having the highest GPA among the Senior, male, multisport athletes. Congratulations gentlemen for your awards and thanks for your contributions to athletics at Bishop and, more importantly, the wrestling program.

Grant Gregory Picks up win # 100

Senior Grant Gregory collected his 100th career win at the Jim Horney Invitational hosted by Southern Guilford on December 22nd. Great job Grant.

Patrick O'Shea wins his 100th Match at Bull Durham Tournament

Congratulations to Patrick on his 100th victory!

Patrick won the Bull Durham tournament while collecting the 100th victory milestone.

At 152, state top-ranked wrestler Patrick O’Shea of Bishop McGuiness defeated second-ranked Dakota Roberts of Western Harnett, 10-6, in what was billed as the premier match of the night. 




SGROI INKS WITH BELMONT ABBEY

State Champion Nick Sgroi signed to wrestle with Belmont Abbey in Charlotte. Nick will most likely wrestle either 141 or 149 for the Crusaders next season. Hopefully, he will have an impact in their program as he did at Bishop. Congratulations Nick and best of luck.

At the final school awards ceremony for athletics, three members of the villains squad were honored. Collin Eichhorn recieved Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, Nick Sgroi recieved Male Athlete of the Year and Lidsay Hynes recieved the Tony O'Meara award for Manager of the Year. Congrats and great job!

STATE RUNNER UP

The Villains made their mark at the 1A State tournament held at the Greensboro Coliseum  by putting 4 on the podium. By the end of the weekend, the Villains had 1 third place finisher and 3 STATE CHAMPIONS. Geno Guilyard finished third while Alex Preudhomme, Nick Sgroi, and Collin Eichhorn found themselves atop the podium as State Champions. The acomplishments of these four, as well as the other qualifiers, were enough to bring home the Runner-up Trophy to Bishop. Congratulations and great job Villains on another great season.

VILLAINS QUALIFY 8 FOR STATE TOURNAMENT

The Villain wrestlers advanced 8 to the state championships after a 2nd place finish at the Western regional in Cherokee. Alex Preudhomme, Grant Gregory, Kevin Graban, Peter Jacoby, Nick Sgroi, Collin Eichhorn, Patrick O'Shea, and Geno Guilyard will pursue their dreams of becoming state champions at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Villains Place Second at NW Conference Tournament

The Villain grapplers finished a close second at the NW 1A/2A conference tournament. Twelve wrestlers entered the tournament and all placed in the top 4. Placers were:

103 - Alex Preudhomme - 1st

112 - Eric Forrester - 3rd

119 - Grant Gregory - 1st

125 -  Eli Grogan - 4th

135 -  Sam Sgroi - 3rd

140 - Peter Jacoby - 4th

145 - Nick Sgroi - 1st

152 - Patrick O'Shea - 1st

160 - Collin Eichhorn - 1st

171 - Alex Valitutto -  3rd

189 - Geno Guilyard - 1st

215 - Brian Roche - 3rd
