Girls are State Runners Up; Boys Finish 7th
What a day for the Villian track team at the State Championships. Despite the thunderstorm delay which lasted for an hour and a half the Villians were estabishing there best performances of the year on the track. Both the boys and girls finished the highest they have ever done in school history as team as the boys finished 7th and the girls finished 2nd State Runners Up. This was by far one of the best days in for the Villain track and field team. Here is a summary of how the day sent for the Villains. The morning started off with the girls 4x800 (Julia, Cissy, Ally, Katie) relay. The relay ran there best time of the season of 9:59.46 which was good enough for 2nd place. Next came the boys 4x8 (Austin, Preston, Alex, Robert) and they ran there best time of the season of 8:27.04 and got 4th place. Now it was time for our only field event participants to to the track. Kathryn and Bailey were in the high jump and a good day. Kaytryn finished 9th in the high jump tying her best jump, & Baily finished 12th in the high jump. Both girls are freshman so look for more good things to come. Next came the prelims in wich Marty in the 200, Patrick in the 400, Dominique & Rose in the 400 all qualified to the finals. Now the finals were taking place and just before the girls 4x2 (Rose, Dominique, Imma, Jessica R.) took to the track the thunderstorms came in and we were delayed. It did not seem like the delay bothered the girls 4x2 as they took nearly 3 seconds off there best time by running 1:49.29 and finished 3rd. Next, was Meredith in the mile. She had a good race and finished11th with a time of 5:44.16, but this was just a warm-up for her two mile later in the day. Now it was time for 400. Rose & Dominique looked good and both ran there best times of there life. Dominique finished 2nd with a time of 59.81 and Rose finished 5th with a time of 60.43. Now, it was Patricks turn in the 400 and he ran his best time of his life with a time of 51.17 and finished 4th. Next was the 800 in which Juilia & Cissy ran there best times ever. Cissy ran2:29.60 for 4th place while Julia ran 2:31.36 which was good enough for 5th place. Next it was Austins turn in the 800 and he ran his best time by runnin 1:59.12 which was good enough for 3rd place. Marty was up next in the 200 and he finished 4th in the 200 with his best time to date of 22.64. Meredith was up again, but this time for the 2 mile. She ran a great race and posted her best time ever of 12:12.92 which was good enough for 3rd place. Now it was time for the final 2 events of the evening now the 4x4 relays. The boys 4x4 (Marty, Patrick, Brian, Austin) ran nearly 10 seconds faster than they ever have and finished 2nd. They ran a time of 3:26.11 and showed they are one the best relays teams in 1A. The girls took to the track in the 4x4 (Dominique, Rose, Julia, Cissy) and did not disappoint. Everyone knew that it would come down to the Villains and Winston-Salem Prep (like always) and the last legs of each relay. The girls saved the best for last and we ran with a passion. There was no catching our girls this time as the girls not only went on to win the 4x4, but also broke the State Meet Record. The old record was 4:06 and we ran 4:04.48. This ended a long, but very successful day on both the boys and girls side. Everyone should be proud of your performances as we definitely performed our best at the biggest meet of the season, STATE! Thanks to everyone that came to support and not only at State, but throughout the year. Once again great job everyone and hopefully next year we can build off of this success.
