Michael Herschel- Varsity Assistant Coach
2015-2016 will be Coach Herschel’s first season as a coach with the Bishop Basketball program. Although it is his first season as a coach with the Villains he is not unfamiliar with the program. Coach Hersch played on the last Bishop freshman team in 2005, played on a one-loss JV team his sophomore year and then was named a captain of the Villains for his junior and senior seasons from 2007-2009. He played under Coach Josh Thompson for those two years and was a member of the 2009 NCHSAA 1A State Championship team that finished ranked 69th in the country (his 2009 team is also currently tied for highest team cumulative GPA in the program’s history). Michael went on to attend UNC-Wilmington where he would earn his bachelors in business administration. It was also at UNCW that he found opportunities to coach. In 2011, he coached the boys team at St. Mark Catholic Middle School where he put together a winning season and then took over the traditionally strong girls program the next year. His teams for the next two seasons went undefeated in regular season and conference tournament play. While in Wilmington, he coached with the Wilmington Hurricanes AAU organization and, upon moving back to the Triad, he coached under Coach Money with the NC Spartans. Most recently, he was a coach for one of Bishop’s feeder schools Immaculate Heart of Mary.
