Junior Shawn Fayette became Miamisburg's first ever state champion in 42 years by winning the 130 lb. weight class at the 2009 Ohio State Tournament on March 7. Fayette pinned Medina's Matt Meuer in the first round, decisioned Springboro's Tyler Riegle 4-2 in the quarterfinals, decisioned Massillon Perry's Zach Dailey 4-0 in the semifinals and decisioned Lakota West's Ty Davis 9-4 in the finals. Junior Tyler Regan (112) went 1-2 while Senior Matt Pope (160) went 0-2 at the State Tournament. Miamisburg finished 14th in the team standings.

Regan & Fayette District Champions, Pope 4th, Jacobs 5th
Miamisburg sent 8 wrestlers to the Fairfield district tournament on February 27 and 28. For the first time in the school's history the Vikings had two district champions in Tyler Regan (112) and Shawn Fayette (130)! Fayette became a district champion for the second year in a row. Also qualifying for the State Tournament was Matt Pope who placed 4th at 160. Adam Jacobs is a state alternate by placing 5th at 135. Miamisburg placed 6th as a team. Regan, Fayette and Pope will head to the state tournament in Columbus on March 5th, 6th and 7th.

For the 3rd time in 4 years, the Miamisburg Vikings are the Sectional Team Champions. Miamisburg won the Centerville I Sectional at Centerville High School on February 21 that included 8 of the Miami Valley's top 10 teams. Leading the way for the Vikings were individual champions Tyler Regan (112) and Shawn Fayette (130). Also placing for Miamisburg and qualifying for the District Tournament were Adam Jacobs (2nd at 135), Luke Williamson (3rd at 119), Dylan Ewing (3rd at 145), Matt Pope (3rd at 160), Mitch Johnston (3rd at 189) and Michael Fontaine (4th at 215). Other placers for the Vikings were Nick Long (5th at 103), Nate Hoagland (5th at 125) and Dylan DeWeese (5th at 140). Eight Vikings will head to the Fairfield District Tournament on February 27 and 28.

Miamisburg 1st in GMVWC Poll (2/20/2009)
Miamisburg is ranked 1st in this week's Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Coaches Poll (February 20, 2009). Miamisburg has beaten #2 Centerville 29-28, #3 Beavercreek 40-23, #4 Vandalia Butler 51-22, #5 Fairmont 36-22 and #6 Northmont 42-25 in dual meets this season.

Miracle & Burchfield JV GWOC Champions, 9 Vikings Place!
Miamisburg hosted its first ever Junior Varsity Greater Western Ohio Conference Tournament on February 14. Daniel Miracle (119) and Brandon Burchfield (152) were individual champions for the Vikings. Also placing for Miamisburg were Will Rees (2nd at 103), CJ Regelski (2nd at 130), Nathan Wolf (3rd at 145), Josh Trimbach (3rd at 171), Sterling Paulson (4th at 140), Tyler Manning (4th at 160) and Corey Howard (4th at 285). Good job guys! Coach Guinther would like to thank all of the Miamisburg coaches, wrestlers and parents for making the tournament a success.
Vikings Beat Thunderbolts 42-25
The Miamisburg Varsity Team hosted the 6th ranked Northmont Thunderbolts in a dual meeting on February 12. The Vikings jumped out to a 15-0 lead with a 4-3 overtime decision from Nick Long (103), a pin from Tyler Regan (112) and a pin from Luke Williamson (119). Northmont cut the lead to 15-4 with a major decision at 125. Miamisburg extended its lead to 26-4 with a 20-2 tech from Shawn Fayette (130) and a pin from Adam Jacobs (135). The Thunderbolts scored a decision at 140 to make the score 26-7. Dylan Ewing (145) answered with a pin for the Vikings to increase the lead to 32-7. Northmont got a decision at 152 to cut the lead to 32-10. Matt Pope (160) recorded a pin to extend the Miamisburg lead to 38-10. The Thunderbolts answered with a pin at 171 and a decision at 189 to make the score 38-19. Michael Fontaine (215) scored a 14-4 major decision to increase the lead to 42-19. The meet ended with a forfeit for Northmont at 285 for a final score of 42-25.

Vikings Make It 3 GWOC Championships, 6 Straight Conference Titles!
The Miamisburg Varsity Team repeated as GWOC Team Champions for the third straight year since joining the Greater Western Ohio Conference. This also makes 6 straight conference titles for the Vikings (3 GWOC & 3 Mid-Miami League). Leading the way for Miamisburg were individual champions Tyler Regan (112) and 3-time GWOC champion Shawn Fayette (130). Other placers for the Vikings were Luke Williamson (2nd at 119), Matt Pope (3rd at 160), Mitch Johnston (3rd at 189), Bobby Erhard (4th at 125), Adam Jacobs (4th at 135), Dylan Ewing (4th at 152) and Dylan DeWeese (5th at 140). Shawn Fayette was named the GWOC South Division Wrestler of the Year and Miamisburg Head Coach Willie Wineberg was named the GWOC South Division Coach of the Year for the 3rd straight year. Miamisburg was locked in a battle for first with Centerville througout the weekend. Centerville had a chance to overtake the Vikings for the team title with a few weight classes left to go in the final round, but Miamisburg Senior Matt Pope held off the Elks charge with a pin of his Centerville opponent in the 160 lb. 3rd place match. Senior Mitch Johnson increased Miamisburg's lead by winning his 3rd place match in the 189 lb. weight class. The tournament was held at Vandalia Butler on February 6 and 7.

JV Win Tipp City Reserve Tournament!
The Miamisburg Junior Varsity Team won the Tipp City Reserve Tournament on February 7 by 50 points over second place Fairmont. Leading the way for the Vikings were individual champions Daniel Miracle (119), CJ Regelski (130), Calob Perkins (135), Nathan Wolf (145) and Brandon Burchfield (152). Also placing for Miamisburg were Will Rees (2nd at 103), Brendon Taylor (3rd at 145), Josh Trimbach (3rd at 171) and John Fontaine (4th at 125).
#2 Vikings Beat #1 Beavercreek 40-23!
Miamisburg (rated #2 in the area) took on Beavercreek (rated #1 in the area and #8 in the state) in a dual of the areas top two teams at Beavercreek High School on January 31. The Vikings opened up a 9-0 lead with an 8-3 decision by Matt Pope (171) and a pin from Mitch Johnson (189). The Beavers came back to take a 14-9 lead with a decision at 215, a forfeit at 285 and a tech at 103. Miamisburg roared back into the lead with 28 unanswered points to make the score 37-14 with a pin from Tyler Regan (112), a 5-3 decision from Luke Williamson (119), an 11-4 decision from Bobby Erhard (125), a pin from Nate Hoagland (130), a pin from Shawn Fayette (135) and an 11-3 major decision from Adam Jacobs (140). Beavercreek cut the lead to 37-17 with a decision at 145. Dylan Ewing (152) increased the Viking lead to 40-17 with a 5-1 decision. The Beavers won the final match of the evening with a pin at 160. Final score Miamisburg 40, Beavercreek 23.

Junior Varsity Place 7th at Butler JV Tournament
The Miamisburg Junior Varsity Team participated in the Butler JV Tournament at Vandalia Butler High School on January 31. Daniel Miracle was the lone placer for the Vikings taking 3rd at 119.

Miamisburg won the Wyoming Duals Tournament on January 24 at Wyoming High School in Cincinnati. The Vikings beat Norwood 58-10, Clermont Northeast 48-16, Loveland 58-15, Maderia 39-25 and Little Miami 39-31 in the championship. Leading the way for the Vikings were Nate Hoagland (4-0 at 130), Chris Miskell (4-0 at 145/152), Matt Pope (4-0 at 160), Mitch Johnston (4-0 at 189), Daniel Miracle (4-1 at 119), Bobby Erhard (4-1 at 125), Calob Perkins (4-1 at 135) and Dylan Ewing (3-1 at 145/152). Josh Trimbach (171) won the swing match in a close final with Little Miami to put Miamisburg in the lead to win it.

Miamisburg Beats Greenville 40-28, Delphos Jefferson 78-6
Miamisburg traveled to Greenville High School on January 22 for a tri-meet with Greenville and Delphos Jefferson. In the first dual of the night Miamisburg beat Delphos Jefferson 78-6 with 11 pins and 2 forfeits. Getting pins for the Vikings were Will Rees (103), Tyler Regan (112), Luke Williamson (119), Bobby Erhard (125), Adam Jacobs (135), Calob Perkins (140), Chris Miskell (145), Dylan Ewing (152), Matt Pope (160), Mitch Johsnton (189), and Joe Johnson (285). In the second dual of the night Miamisburg (#2 Division I) took on host Greenville (#2 Division II). Both teams moved wrestlers around to try to gain an advantage. The Vikings prevailed 40-28 with a pin from Tyler Regan (112), a pin from Luke Williamson (119), a pin from Shawn Fayette (130), a 3-2 decision for Calob Perkins (135), a pin from Adam Jacobs (140), a pin from Matt Pope (160), a 10-1 major decision from Mitch Johnston (189) and a 6-3 decision from Michael Fontaine (215).

The Miamisburg Varsity Team took on Centerville in a dual meet at Centerville High School on January 21. The Vikings jumped out to a 22-0 lead with a 17-1 tech from Tyler Regan (112), a 4-2 decision from Luke Williamson (119), an 18-4 major decision from Bobby Erhard (125), a pin from Shawn Fayette (130) and a 16-6 major decision from Adam Jacobs (135). The Elks cut the lead to 22-10 with decisions at 140 and 145 and a major decision at 152. Matt Pope (160) increased Miamisburg's lead to 25-10 with an 8-5 decision. Centerville then took the lead with 18 straight points with a tech at 171, a major decision at 189, a decision at 215 and a pin at 285 to make the score 28-25. However, Miamisburg freshman Nick Long (103) closed out the night with a 14-1 major decision to give the Vikings the 29-28 victory!

Long & Rees Place 6th at Freshman Buckeye Classic
Miamisburg freshmen Nick Long (98) and Will Rees (103) both placed 6th at the Freshmen Buckeye Classic held at Centerville High School on January 17. The Miamisburg Freshmen Team placed 27th out of 34 teams.

The Miamisburg Varsity Team wrestling without wrestlers in 3 weight classes placed 4th out of seven teams at the Porter Memorial Tournament at Hilliard Darby High School on January 10. Tyler Regan (112) and Shawn Fayette (135) were individual champions for the Vikings. Other placers for Miamisburg were Luke Williamson (2nd at 119), Mitch Johnston (2nd at 189), Bobby Erhard (3rd at 125), Nate Hoagland (3rd at 130), Dylan DeWeese (3rd at 140), Dylan Ewing (4th at 152) and Michael Fontaine (4th at 215). Miamisburg Loses Duals with Elder & Lakota West
The Miamisburg Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams traveled to Lokota West High School on January 8 to take on Cincinnati Elder and Lakota West in a tri-meet. The Vikings lost to Elder 43-24. Winners for Miamisburg were Mitch Johnston (2-0 decision at 189), Tyler Regan (pin at 112), Luke Williamson (pin at 119), Shawn Fayette (22-7 tech at 135) and Dylan DeWeese (9-1 decision at 140). Miamisburg lost to host Lakota West 41-21. Winners for the Vikings were Michael Fontaine (7-5 decision at 215), Tyler Regan (19-4 tech at 112), Luke Williamson (12-6 decision at 119), Shawn Fayette (13-4 major decision at 135) and Matt Pope (pin at 160).

The Miamisburg Varsity Team traveled to Marysville High School on January 3 to face Mason and Marysville in a tri-meet. The meet took place simultaneously on two mats with weight classes mixed up on each mat. The Vikings lost to Mason 36-22 winning 5 of 13 matches wrestled. Winners for Miamisburg were Tyler Regan (pin at 112), Nate Hoagland (4-3 decision at 130), Dylan DeWeese (7-4 decision at 145), Chris Miskell (pin at 152) and Matt Pope (14-2 major decision at 160). The Vikings then lost to host Marysville 40-28 winning 6 of 12 matches wrestled. Winning for Miamisburg were Nick Long (8-0 major decision at 103), Tyler Regan (17-2 tech at 112), Luke Williamson (pin at 119), Nate Hoagland (pin at 130), Shawn Fayette (11-3 major decision at 135) and Dylan DeWeese (13-9 decision at 145).
