Varsity Opens 2009-10 Season at Harrison Duals Dec 5, Freshmen at Purcell Marian Tournament
The Miamisburg Varsity squad opens the 2009-2010 wrestling season at the 10-team Harrision Duals on Saturday December 5th at Harrision High School in Harrison, Ohio. Teams scheduled to compete are Beech Grove, Butler, East Central, Glen Este, Hamilton, Harrison, Miamisburg, Milford, Northmont, Springboro and Wadsworth. Wrestling starts at 9:00 a.m. and will take place in the Harrison Activity Center. The Miamisburg Freshmen team travels to Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati this Saturday December 5th to participate in the 14-team Cavalier Invitational. Teams scheduled to compete are Carroll, Centerville, Chaminade-Julienne, Dixie Heights, Elder, Harrison, Lakota East, Lakota West, Miamisburg, Milford, Moeller, Oak Hills, Purcell Marian and St. Xavier. Fayette Commits to Northern Illinois University

Junior Shawn Fayette became Miamisburg's first ever state champion in 42 years by winning the 130 lb. weight class at the 2009 Ohio State Tournament on March 7. Fayette pinned Medina's Matt Meuer in the first round, decisioned Springboro's Tyler Riegle 4-2 in the quarterfinals, decisioned Massillon Perry's Zach Dailey 4-0 in the semifinals and decisioned Lakota West's Ty Davis 9-4 in the finals. Junior Tyler Regan (112) went 1-2 while Senior Matt Pope (160) went 0-2 at the State Tournament. Miamisburg finished 14th in the team standings.
