About the Seaman Athletic Booster Club

 Our mission statement:
“To support the athletic programs at Seaman High School by promoting good sportsmanship, school spirit, citizenship and the physical and mental development of the athletes, to provide physical and financial support in strict compliance with the KSHAA and Seaman High School.”

2011 - 2012 SABC Officers:

   Andrea Chaffee, President

   Bob Jurgens, Vice President

Lisa Henderson, Secretary

   Rick Waetzig, Treasurer

   Gene Huguenin, Member at Large

The SABC meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month (except December, June, July) in room E14 at Seaman High School at 6:30p.m.

Over the last 10 years the SABC has contributed over $185,000 to the athletic programs at Seaman, including basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, softball, swimming, tennis, cross country, track, wrestling, cheerleading, football, volleyball and bowling.  We couldn’t have done this without a lot of volunteers coordinating and working our fund raising activities.

The major fundraisers for SABC are Membership, Sports Program, Football Tailgate, Taco Feed, Silent Auction, Dance, Seaman Relay Concessions, and Physicals.  We also promote spirit in the school and community by participating in the Homecoming Parade, Homecoming Bonfire Pep Rally, providing Senior Night flowers, Fall Athletes’ Watermelon Feed, Spirit Pizza and our always popular Viking Spirit Wear.  All these activities need YOU!  If you are a new freshman or sophomore parent or even a junior or senior parent who has never participated – give us a call!  Help us out!  Make new friends!  Have FUN!  It’s the best way to meet the parents of your kids’ teammates while giving something worthwhile to the school and community.

Memberships can be purchased for $15.00.  All members will be listed in the Sports programs.

The Seaman Athletic Booster Club also encourages the patronage of all businesses that advertise in the Fall, Winter and Spring sports program and on the pocket schedules.  The program lists all the sports with pictures, rosters, and schedules, and also highlights the senior athletes.

Seaman Athletic Booster Club By-Laws

  1. The following 5 officers will be elected on an annual basis and can be re-elected for additional terms:  President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member at large.  All officers and Member at large must be attending members for at least one year.  Term is June 1 – May 31.

  2. Chairpersons for the following committees will be pointed and serve for the entire year and may remain in that position for additional terms:  Dance, Membership, Watermelon Feed, Tailgate Dinner, Bonfire, Taco Feed, Silent Auction, Hospitality, Sports Programs, Publicity, Viking Sign, Seaman Relays, Sports Physicals, Miscellaneous Concessions and Spirit Gear.  All events will be reviewed annually for their effectiveness.

  3. Any individual who supports the Seaman Athletic Booster Club Mission Statement and pays the annual membership fee may become a member.

  4. Monthly meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Seaman High School (except December, June, July).  Special meetings may be called by the President or the Athletic Director (who will be the official liaison between the SABC and Seaman High School).  The officers and the Member at large will make up the Executive Committee and may meet separately from the general membership meetings. Minutes from these Executive Committee meetings will be recorded and read at the next general membership meeting.

  5. A minimum of $3,000 will be held in the treasury from one year to the next.  The New Year begins June 1 and runs through May 31.  Expenditures over $100 must be approved unanimously by the Officers or by a majority of the general membership during a general meeting.  After June 1 and prior to the August meeting, the newly elected president will acquire an independent auditor at the clubs expense to audit the treasurer’s reports, bank statements and check book.

  6. The SABC provides financial support for each team sport based on a coaches’ “Wish List”.  This list is presented each April by the Athletic Director and is tabled and voted on by the general membership at the May meeting.  This is intended to give members opportunity to research and gain information before they vote. It is the intent of the SABC to support the “Team” and to provide fair and equal financial support to ALL sports teams at Seaman High School based on student participation.

  7. Funds for purchases subject to Section 6 must be requested in advance of the purchase.  The SABC may approve an annual not-to-exceed budget where repetitive purchases are required for a SABC-approved event (e.g. concessions, tailgate dinner, Spirit gear). The SABC will not pay for items that are purchased prior to the approval of the expense.

  8. Any wish list item not purchased within 11 months from date of approval will not be funded by the SABC.  Special situations will need to be presented and reviewed and then voted on by the SABC with a 2/3 majority to carry.

  9. Additional funds for special needs may be requested outside of the wish list; however each request will be discussed and tabled until the next meeting. Special needs requests may include sponsorship of student/athlete attended functions.  Special needs requests must be presented to the Executive Committee for majority approval prior to being considered by a membership vote.  At the following meeting, a motion to fund the special need must be made and voted on by the general membership present.  This vote requires a 2/3 majority vote for implementation by regular attending members. (attend at least 3 meetings per year)

  10. The SABC purchases team patches for achievement at City, League, Regional, Sub-State and State levels.  The SABC does not purchase patches for individual accomplishments (i.e. All-City).  However, the SABC does purchase “S” letters, pins and bars to be given to each athlete lettering in a sport.  The SABC purchases the achievement board updates in the Seaman High School gym.

  11. The SABC club will provide a maximum of $100.00 in advertising to sponsor an individual in an All-Star Game (i.e. Shrine Bowl game, KABC All-Star game, etc.) since these individuals are representing Seaman High School.

  12. The SABC does not provide financial support for the purchase of team uniforms.  These should be provided by the school district for each sport on a rotating basis.

  13. It is not the intent of the SABC to fund building enhancements or purchase non-athletic equipment or provide funds for items that should fall under the responsibility of the school and are not in direct compliance with the mission statement.
