VIANNEY RANKS AMONG STATES BEST
Vianney Softball ended its Y2K campaign with impressive showings in the two state softball rankings and in the Shore Conference Poll. The Lancers placed 11th among New Jersey teams in rankings published by the Newark Star-Ledger. Vianney captured the 13th spot in the poll conducted by the Gannett Newspaper Syndicate. Among local teams, St. John Vianney garnered the 3rd spot in the Asbury Park Press rankings.   

VIANNEY ROLLS TO VICTORY OVER MATAWAN

St. John Vianney improved its record to 4-1 with an 8-1 victory over the Matawan Huskies in Holmdel. Jackie Adelfio led the hitting attack with a three for three, 4 RBI performance. The Lancers broke open a 3-0 game with a 5 run fifth inning. Kristin Liggio provided the crushing blow with a two-run triple to centerfield.   Vianney will look to continue its winning streak with tough division battles against Wall and Red Bank next week.

VIANNEY BATS EXPLODE

The St. John Vianney bats exploded in a 19-0 victory over the Green Wave of Long Branch. Vianney scored 11 runs in the first inning and Jackie Adelfio hurled her first career no-hitter in the win. Haley Ryglicki collected her first career hit and RBI with a 2 out single in the 2nd. Christen Piccola knocked in 3 runs with a 2 for 4 effort and Kristin Liggio had a bases clearing double in the first to aid the Lancers. Vianney will face the Matawan Huskies at home on April 13.

APRIL (SNOW) SHOWERS POSTPONE EVENT

A drastic change in the weather forced postponement of Vianney Softball's doubleheader at the Mt. St. Dominic Invitational in Caldwell. The Lancers were to take on state powers Governor Livingston of Union County and Immaculate Heart Academy, the #1 team in New Jersey. The event will not be made up due to scheduling conflicts but all games will be rescheduled at the fields of the participants.

ALL EYES ON VIANNEY AT INVITATIONAL

St. John Vianney will face another tough challenge at the Mt. St. Dominics Invitational on April 8 in Caldwell. Vianney will face Governor Livingston in the opening contest at 1PM. At 3PM, defending Parochial A Champion and 1999 Star-Ledger #1 team, Immaculate Heart Academy, will challenge the Lancers. Vianney is currently 2-1 and ranked 8th in the Shore by the Asbury Park Press.

FRESHMAN BATTERY SHINES IN VIANNEY WIN
SJV freshman Lauren Taub made her varsity pitching debut a memorable one as the Lancers defeated Neptune 14-0. Taub allowed just a first inning double in picking up the shutout. Freshman catcher Candice Ruffler collected her first career hit with a single in the fourth inning. Vianney improves its record to 2-1, including 1-0 in the B-North.

VIANNEY WINS NAILBITER
Christen Piccola went 2 for 3 and knocked in the game's only run as the visiting Lancers defeated the Allentown Redbirds 1-0. Sarah Otto led off the 5th inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Lauren Taub. Piccola followed with a single to centerfield, plating Otto. Jackie Adelfio picked up her first varsity win in the complete game effort. Vianney will host its home opener on April 6 against the Neptune Scarlet Fliers.

VIANNEY DROPS NAILBITER
The St. John Vianney softball team dropped the opening game of the 2000 season, falling 1-0 to Red Bank Catholic. The Caseys, ranked 3rd in the opening Asbury Park Press poll, scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to hand Vianney the loss. Sophomore Jackie Adelfio impressed in her first varsity start, scattering five hits while striking out five. Freshman Lauren Taub and Jamie Komar combined for two of the 3 Vianney hits. The 9th ranked Lancers attempt to reach .500 when it travels to Allentown for a non-divisional matchup on April 5.

VIANNEY SOFTBALL WEBSITE TAKES THE FIELD
The St. John Vianney softball team made Shore Conference history becoming the first softball team to host its own website. The site features schedules, player profiles and various bits of information about Vianney softball.
   Although still in construction, the website already features many pages of features including the Y2K schedule, profiles of returning varsity players, links to softball related sites and more.
   As the Spring 2000 season approaches, additional pages will be added, including statistical information and game recaps. Bookmark the Vianney Softball site and check in periodically to get the latest news about the defending Shore Conference Tournament champions.

Vianney: New Millennium, New Uniforms
Vianney Softball will be sporting new uniforms in the new millennium. The uniforms, white with black and gold trim features shorts and sleeveless, button down shirts. The debut of the new apparel will be at the first sign of tranquil weather. The Lancers will also sport their older, trademark uniforms in the cold weather games.

Vianney Softball Meets the Yankees

St. John Vianney softball announced plans to meet 1999's other champion, the New York Yankees. On April 30, the Lancers will travel to Yankee Stadium and witness the Bronx Bombers take on David Wells and the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:05PM. On sale date for tickets and other information will be released as soon as it is available.

Y2K Brings SJV One Tough Sked
St. John Vianney Softball released its Spring 2000 schedule in January. Bolstered by the success of its 1999 campaign, the Lancers once again were aggressive in securing challenging, non-conference games.      
    Participants in 1999's Edison/JP Stevens Invitational Doubleheader, SJV finds itself in two equally impressive doubleheaders.
    On Sunday, April 9, Vianney will find themselves as players in the Mt. St. Dominic's Invitational in Caldwell. In the opening contest the Lancers take on Governor Livingston HS, Union County's #1 team in '99. In the nightcap, the opponent will be Immaculate Heart Academy, the 1999 #1 team in NJ, and NJ Parochial A Champions.
    Just two weeks later, Vianney will get its first taste of tournament action at the MKA Invitational. First round opponent will be Parochial B Champions, Montclair-Kimberly Academy. The victor will face the winner of Mt. St. Dominic and South Jersey Parochial A Champion, Bishop Eustace.
    Also on the Y2K schedule are Red Bank Catholic, Allentown, St. Mary's (Rutherford) and Mt. St. Dominic Academy.


FORMER VIANNEY STAND-OUT STANDS OUT

Former St. John Vianney softball player Dana Komar, a member of the 1998 Asbury Park Press All-Shore team, has won a spot on the final roster of the Rutgers University softball team.
    Komar transfered to Rutgers following her freshman year at Georgetown, where she was a member of the schools club softball team. In her only year of high school softball, Dana was recogized as both All-Shore and All-County by local media outlets. She batted .407 despite starting the season with just one hit in her first 10 at-bats. Dana joins Kathryn Bucco and Darci Santella as members of the '98 team that moved on to collegiate softball.

ALL-SHORE HONORS FOR VIANNEY 4
St. John Vianney has placed four student-athletes on the Asbury Park Press 2000 All-Shore softball teams. Outfielder Christine Adelfio, shortstop Suzanne Gorczynski and outfielder Lauren Taub received second team honors while pitcher Jackie Adelfio, in her first season as Vianney's starter was named to the third team.

Defending champion St. John Vianney's hopes of back-to-back SCT titles was ended with a 4-0 loss to 5th-seeded RBC in Holmdel. The Casey's scored two runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach. Christine Adelfio had two hits in the losing effort.

St. John Vianney dethroned 5-time defending South Jersey Parochial'A' champion Bishop Eustace with a 1-0 win in Holmdel. Lauren Taub singled, stole second and scored on an infield error as the Lancers advanced to the semi-final round. Vianney will face 7th seeded Gloucester Catholic, 1-0 upset winners over Camden Catholic. Jackie Adelfio allowed just two hits in picking up her 10th shutout. Eustace eliminated the Lancers in the 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999 state tournaments.

St. John Vianney mirrored its 1999 Lady Buc finish in the 2000 tournament, losing a 1-0 decision to rival Red Bank Catholic in Red Bank. Kim Lombardi drove home the games only run with a 5th inning double to right-center. Lombardi was named the tournament's outstanding pitcher as she yielded no runs in four tournament games. SJV dropped a 1-0 decision to Manasquan in the 1999 title game.

VIANNEY DEFENSE BOMBS IN LOSS

St. John Vianney committed three 7th inning errors leading to two runs, allowing the visiting Lions of Mt. St. Dominic to defeat the Lancers 4 to 3. A perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Sarah Otto plated Haley Ryglicki with the go-ahead run in the 6th inning but sloppy defense aided the Mount in its come from behind victory.

DEFENDING CHAMPS ADVANCE

St. John Vianney High School, defending champion of the the SCT, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2000 tournament with a 6-0 victory over the Panthers of Pt. Pleasant Boro. Jackie Adelfio was perfect until two outs in the seventh inning, when she hit Stacey Grady with a pitch. Adelfio finished with a no-hitter, her second of the season. Christine Adelfio and Jaime Komar knocked in a pair of runs each, while Christen Piccola added another RBI. Vianney scored all six of its runs with two away. The Lancers will take on the winner of Friday's Manalapan/RBC game. The quarterfinals will take place on Wednesday, May 31st at St. John Vianney.

RAIN WASHES AWAY CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

Rain has has forced postponement of the Lady Buc championship game between St. John Vianney and Red Bank Catholic. The inclement weather forced the cancellation of the game on both Saturday and Sunday. The championship tilt will now be held on Saturday, May 27 at a time to be determined. Vianney will take the field again on Wednesday, May 24 against Pt. Pleasant Boro in the 2nd round of the Shore Conference Tournament.

SJV SEEDED THIRD IN STATE TOURNEY

The NJSIAA announced on May 18th the seedings for the State Tournament and St. John Vianney has received the 3rd seed in the South Jersey Parochial A section. The Lancers will take on 6th seeded Bishop Eustace in the opening round on May 30th. Red Bank Catholic was placed in the first position and will play the winner of Paul VI and Holy Cross. Camden Catholic was seeded 2nd and will face #7 Glouchester Catholic. Bishop Ahr and Notre Dame were seeded 4th and 5th respectively. Bishop Eustace is the defending South Jersey Parochial A champion, defeating the Lancers 2-0 in the 1999 sectional final.

SEVENTH HEAVEN FOR VIANNEY

St. John Vianney won its seventh consecutive division title today with a 6-0 victory over Raritan. The win gave Vianney an 11-1 record in the B-North, good enough for a share of the title with Wall. Wall and Vianney traded 1-0 decisions earlier in the season. Vianney currently holds the longest string of consecutive divisional titles in the Shore Conference. Middletown South currently has a run of six straight titles in the A-North. Vianney has won five titles outright since 1994, sharing the crown in 1995 with Red Bank Catholic and Allentown.

SEEDING ANNOUNCED FOR SCT; SJV 4th

The seedings were announced for the 2000 Shore Conference Tournament and St. John Vianney, 1999 SCT champions were selected as the 4th seed. Vianney, finalists in the 2000 Lady Buc (Monmouth County) Tournament were seeded behind Jackson, Toms River East and Middletown South, respectively. Red Bank Catholic, Vianney's opponent in the Buc final was placed 5th. SJV, which received a bye in the first round will face 13th seeded Pt. Pleasant Boro in the round of 16. The Panthers were 8-0 winners over #20 Raritan in the tournament's opening round.

LANCERS SHUT OUT BUCS, 1 AWAY FROM DIVISION CROWN

St. John Vianney defeated Red Bank, 5-0. With the victory, the Lancers are 1 win away from a seventh consecutive divisional title, the longest streak in the Shore Conference. Currently Wall sits alone at the top of the B-North with a record of 11-1. With a home victory over Raritan on May 18th, the Lancers can tie the Knights for the divisional crown. Vianney's streak of titles includes one tri-championship, captured in 1995 while in the C-South.

LANCERS MARCH TO FINAL

Sue Gorczynski slammed a 2nd inning home run and Jackie Adelfio scattered three hits as Vianney defeated Manasquan 3-1 to advance to its second consecutive Lady Buc final. After Gorczynski's solo blast, the Warriors immediately tied the game in the next half inning. A stellar defensive play by the Lancers' infield prevented further damage. Vianney scored what proved to be the winning run in the home half of the third. Jaime Komar had a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice. Following an out, Vianney drew three consecutive walks to take a 2 to 1 lead. SJV added an insurance run in the 5th, turning a two-out walk to Christine Adelfio into a run. Adelfio stole second and later scored when Sue Gorczynski's liner to the outfield was dropped for an error. Vianney will face 3rd seeded Red Bank Catholic in the finals on May 20th. The Lancers dropped a 1-0 decision to the Casey's on April 1st.

VIANNEY TOPPLES WALL, REGAINS SHARE OF FIRST

SJV broke an 18 inning scoreless streak against Wall with a 12th inning run which gave Vianney a 1-0 victory over the Knights in Holmdel. Lauren Taub reached 1st with a one out single. A passed ball advanced her to second and after a strikeout, Christine Adelfio belted a ground rule double to end the game. The win evens Vianney with Wall in the B-North race with just 2 games to play. Jackie Adelfio was the complete game winner, allowing just 7 hits while not walking a batter.

Vianney kept itself within striking distance of Wall with a 7-0 victory over Matawan. Jamie Komar had a pair of bunt hits, including a "home run" bunt in the 4th with Tami Coyle aboard. The Lancers scored runs in four different innings in the victory. Vianney will seek revenge on B-North leader Wall in a game on Thursday, May 11.

VIANNEY FALLS TO ST. MARY'S

Vianney, coming off 26 innings of tournament softball could not muster an attack against the Gaels' of St. Mary's (Rutherford). St. Mary's (15-3) executed its short game to perfection in the 6th and 7th innings, scoring 3 runs to break a 1-1 tie. Vianney, winners of the weekends MKA Invitational drops to 14-3. On deck for the Lancers, a trip to Matawan for a crucial B-North contest.

LANCERS SWEEP TO TAKE INVITATIONAL TITLE

St. John Vianney defeated host school Montclair Kimberly Academy and Essex County power Mt. St. Dominic to secure the MKA Invitational Tournament Championship in Montclair. Jackie Adelfio was named the Outstanding Pitcher of the Tournament for her two complete game efforts on the day. Freshman Lauren Taub was named the Outstanding Player of the Tournament, leading the Lancers with 5 hits in the twinbill. Taub also contributed her first career home run to lead off the championship game. Shortstop Suzanne Gorczynski was the defensive star of the afternoon, turning in several sparkling plays, including the start of a 6-4-3 double play that snuffed a Mount rally in the 4th inning. The Lancers will face another state ranked team when St. Mary's (Rutherford) travels to Holmdel on May 8th.

VIANNEY RALLIES IN 7th TO DOWN OCEAN

St. John Vianney rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and plated a single run in the 12th to advance past Ocean for a berth in the Lady Buc semi-finals against Manasquan. Ocean scored all its runs in innings two and three. Vianney entered the seventh frame just three outs from tournament elimination. Senior Sarah Otto led off with a single and Tami Coyle reached base on an error. Following an infield out, Lauren Taub singled to drive in Otto. An infield pop left the Lancers one out away from defeat. With a two-strike count, Christine Adelfio doubled to score Coyle, and placed the tying run in scoring position. Suzanne Gorczynski singled off of the shortstops glove to drive in Taub and Adelfio. Both teams traded wasted opportunities in extra innings until the 12th when Jackie Adelfio opened the inning with a single. After a Lancer flyout, runner Jennifer Trace stole second with Sarah Otto at the plate. Otto delivered a gap double to send Vianney to victory. Jackie Adelfio was the winner with a complete game effort. Vianney will face 9th seeded Manasquan in the semi-finals on May 13th.

VIANNEY STINGS HORNETS
The Lancers stole 10 bases in 11 tries in Vianney's 9-4 victory over Holmdel. Tami Coyle led the attack, going 3 for 4 with two stolen bases. Christine Adelfio slugged a two run shot in the second, her third home run of the season. Lauren Taub went six innings, earning her third victory of the campaign. Vianney will face Ocean in the Lady Buc quarterfinals on Saturday, May 6 in Holmdel.

Christen Piccola led the way, going 3 for 4 in Vianney's 7-1 victory over Long Branch. Piccola, batting a team leading .471, also knocked in a run with her two out single in the first. The Lancers plated three runs with 2 out in the first and added a pair of runs in both the second and third innings. Jackie Adelfio was the winner, notching her eighth victory in ten decisions. Vianney will face Holmdel in a non-divisional game on Friday, May 5th.

Vianney Softball will face a challenge in terms of both quality and quantity in the next week. The Lancers will play seven games in six days with several contests against top New Jersey teams. The run of games will begin on Thursday, May 4 with a B-North match-up with Long Branch. On Friday, the Lancers travel across town to face the Holmdel Hornets. The Lady Buc Tournament quarterfinal round against Ocean will be played on Saturday, May 6 at 2PM. The MKA Invitational, originally scheduled for April 22nd will be played on Sunday, May 7th. Vianney faces host team MKA in the opening round with either Bishop Eustace or Mount St. Dominic the opponent in the consolation or final. St. Mary's (Rutherford) travels to Vianney for a non-conference game on May 8th, the Lancers were 5-1 winners over the Gaels in 1999. Finally on Monday, the Lancers travel to Matawan in a pivotal division tilt. Vianney must sweep its remaining B-North contests to share for the divisional title.

Vianney Softball announced that its Lady Buc Quarterfinal game against Ocean will be played on Saturday, May 6th. The 5th seeded Ocean Spartans will travel to Holmdel to face the #4 Lancers at 2PM. Ocean is coming off impressive recent victories over Edison and Wall. Vianney reached the finals of the 1999 Buc Tournament, falling to Manasquan, 1-0.

Jackie Adelfio and Candice Ruffler each belted their first career home runs in the Lancers victory over Neptune. Adelfio slugged two on the day while Ruffler's blast was a grand slam. Suzanne Gorczynski also added a two-run shot in the 2nd for Vianney. Lauren Taub was credited with the complete game victory, her second of the season. Thursday's game against Long Branch will begin a stretch that will see Vianney play seven games in six days.

The New York Yankees and Vianney Softball joined forces to wish Vianney 2nd Baseman Clair Ruffler a happy 18th birthday. The scoreboard announcement came in the 6th inning of the Yankees 7-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on April 30.

TORPEY DELIVERS IN CLUTCH

St. John Vianney's Stephanie Torpey delivered in the clutch at Yankee Stadium, snagging Jorge Posada's fifth inning foul ball off of Toronto starter Roy Halliday. The ball, which ricocheted off the leg of Lancers mom Elizabeth Liggio was quickly grabbed by the nimble-fingered Torpey. Torpey accomplished the feat while attending her first baseball game.

Vianney softball advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Lady Buc Tournament with a convincing 6-0 victory over the Raritan Rockets. Jackie Adelfio scattered two hits in nailing down her third shutout of the season. Christen Piccola singled in each of her three at-bats, picking up 2 RBI's in the process. Tami Coyle and Suzanne Gorczynski each added two hits to the effort. Vianney will now face the fifth seeded Ocean Spartans in a quarterfinal match-up.

St. John Vianney's hopes of clinching a seventh consecutive division title were dealt a devastating blow when Wall defeated the visiting Lancers 1-0. Marissa Mullins rocketed a two-out, third-inning single that was misplayed for a three base error, producing the game's only run. Jackie Adelfio went the distance for Vianney, allowing just 4 hits and walking none. The Lancers meet Raritan in a Lady Buc contest on April 29.

St. John Vianney scored a run on a bases loaded walk in the 10th inning to outlast Governor Livingston, 2-1. Jackie Adelfio led off the final frame with a walk, courtesy runner Carla Guastella was advanced to 2nd base on a two strike sacrifice bunt by Tami Coyle. Lauren Taub singled, advancing Guastella to 3rd base. Christine Adelfio was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Suzanne Gorczynski. Gorczynski worked the count full and fouled off several pitches to extend the at-bat. Her eventual walk plated Guastella with the game winning run. Earlier, Christine Adelfio slammed a solo shot to give Vianney an early 1-0 lead. Defensively, senior catcher Christen Piccola threw out all four runners that attempted steals on the day. SJV will next face Wall on April 28th in a pivotal B-North showdown.

VIANNEY DANCES TO VICTORY

St. John Vianney stayed undefeated in B-North competition by defeating the Raritan Rockets, 8-1 in Hazlet. The Lancers broke a scoreless tie with a 5 run 3rd inning backed by Kristin Liggio's bases loaded triple. Liggio was 3 for 4 with 5 RBI's on the day. Christine Adelfio added a 3 for 4 effort while Lauren Taub, Christen Piccola and Suzanne Gorczynski added 2 hits apiece. Jackie Adelfio improved to 5-1 in the complete game effort. Vianney will face Raritan again on April 29th in the opening round of the Lady Buc Tournament.

RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF TOURNAMENT

Once again, rain has forced the postponement of a Vianney softball appearance at a prestigious softball event. The 2000 MKA Invitational has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 7 due to torrential rains in Northern New Jersey. The Lancers, 17-1 victors over Red Bank in its last game, will face Raritan in a crucial B-North contest on April 25.

Christine Adelfio went 4-4 with a home run and 4 RBI's as the Lancers upended Red Bank 17-1 in a B-North contest. Vianney scored single runs in the first and second frames before blowing the game open with an eleven run third inning. Lauren Taub added a 2 for 3 performance at the plate before pitching the final inning of the game. Vianney now looks ahead to the MKA Invitational this weekend.

St. John Vianney was rewarded for its 4-1 start with the #4 seed in the 2000 Lady Buc Tournament. The Lancers will face B-North rival and 13th seeded Raritan in the opening round. Middletown South was voted the top seed with Wall and RBC placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The seedings for the maroon division are as follows:

Vianney Softball announced that the opening game of the Mt. St. Dominic Invitational which was postponed due to weather, will be made up on April 26 at 3:30PM. Governor Livingston, a Union County power, will travel to Holmdel for the make-up contest. A new date for the postponed IHA game will be announced at a later date.

The St. John Vianney Lancers will look to take control of the division as it faces its toughest week of the season when it travels to take on division leading Wall and the much improved Red Bank. On Tuesday, Vianney travels to Rash Field in Wall in a game matching the final two undefeated teams in the B North. Two days later, the Lancers will travel to Little Silver to face the third place Bucs, who fell 5-4 to Wall in a divisional match earlier in the season. Vianney is seeking its seventh consecutive divisional championship.

St. John Vianney captured its first state championship with a 2-1 victory over Paramus Catholic in the NJSIAA Parochial 'A' Tournament in Toms River. Lauren Taub scored when Jessica Vreeland's tenth inning drive to deep left center was mishandled. Taub had reached base on a one out single and proceeded to steal second and third. Taub finished the day with three hits in five at-bats and scored both Lancer runs. Jackie Adelfio limited Paramus Catholic to just one run in ten innings, striking out fifteen. Vianney closes the season winning its final four games, all in the state tournament and finishes with a 20-8 record.

The Lancers advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Shore Conference Tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Wall Knights. Jackie Adelfio pitched a one-hitter and struck out fourteen in the complete game effort. Vianney will face 7th seeded Ocean Township, 2-1 victors over Middletown North.

St. John Vianney received a combined no-hit pitching effort from Tricia Reingle and Jackie Adelfio as the Lancers defeated St. Dominic's Academy 4-0 in non-conference action. Reingle picked up her fourth win of the season, striking out fourteen in six innings. Jackie Adelfio closed the door, striking out the side in the seventh. Lauren Incorvaia gave the Lancers the lead with a two-run, first inning double that drove in Lauren Taub and Jessica Vreeland. Vianney will face 15th seeded Wall in opening round Shore Conference Tournament action on May 22nd.

VIANNEY DUMPS CASEYS; Finish Perfect in B-North
St. John Vianney closed the B-North season with a 6-0 victory over Red Bank Catholic in Lincroft, clinching a perfect record in the school's final B-North season. Jackie Adelfio scattered 5 hits in the shut-out in picking up her fifteenth win of the season. Tricia Reingle knocked in the game's first two runs with a third inning double, eventually scoring on the play. The victory pushed the Lancers record to 18-3 which includes a 12-0 mark in the B-North.

St. John Vianney recaptured the B-North championship with a 6-0 victory over the Long Branch Green Wave. Lauren Taub and Amanda D'Alessio each had two hits and drove in a run in the effort. The win runs the Lancers record to 17-3 overall which includes a perfect 11-0 in the B-North. Vianney had won the B-North for four consecutive seasons before losing the crown to Ocean Township in 2001. The championship marks the eighth divisional title in nine years for Vianney who had won the C-South championship in 1995 and 1996. With the restructuring of the Shore Conference beginning in 2003, Vianney will no longer be officially vying for divisional titles with public schools, instead they will enter the Shore Conference Parochial 'A' with Red Bank Catholic. St. John Vianney will travel to Red Bank Catholic to complete the 2002 B-North season on Thursday, May 16th.

St. John Vianney was awarded the second seed in the 2002 Shore Conference Tournament, seeded at a meeting at Wall High School on May 13th. Freehold Township, Vianney's opponent in the Lady Buc Tournament Championship was named the top seed based on their 20-0 record. The Lancers will face the winner of the first round match-up between #18 Brick Memorial and #15 Wall. Vianney has won two Shore Conference Championships (1997,1999) in school history. The championship game will be played on Wednesday, June 5th at Brookdale Community College.

St. John Vianney advanced to the Lady Buc final for the third time in the last four years with a 7-0 semi-final victory over Middletown South in Little Silver. Every Lancer starter tallied at least one base hit in the effort. Jess Vreeland led the Vianney charge with three hits and three runs batted in on the day. Jackie Adelfio allowed only one base hit in picking up her 13th win of the season. Vianney will face top ranked and top seeded Freehold Township in the tournament final on Saturday, May 18th at 1PM.

Jackie Adelfio fired her second perfect game of the season as Vianney inched closer to regaining the B-North title with a 3-0 victory over the Raritan Rockets. Adelfio struck out 10 in picking up her 12th victory of the season. Vianney moves its divisional record to 10-0 and can reclaim the B-North title with a victory over RBC on Monday, May 13th at Count Basie Field.

St. John Vianney grabbed firm control of the B-North race with a 10-0 victory over second place Ocean. With the victory, the Lancers moved to 9-0 in the division, 14-3 overall. Candice Ruffler led the Vianney attack, going 3-3 with a double and 4 runs batted in. Jackie Adelfio went the distance in recording her second shutout victory over Ocean in 2002. The Spartans had defeated Vianney twice to win the B-North title last season. Junior second baseman Jennifer Trace turned the sparkling play of the game with a clutch double play in the first inning. With a runner on third base with one out, Trace fielded a grounder, tagged the runner going to second and completed the double play with a throw to first, preventing the go-ahead run from scoring. Vianney will face Raritan in action on May 8th.

VIANNEY SPLITS AT MKA INVITATIONAL

St. John Vianney split a pair of pitcher's duels at the 2002 MKA Invitational in Montclair. Game 1 saw Vianney freshman Trish Reingle limit the Lions of Mt. St. Dominic to just two hits over six innings in picking up her third win of the season. Jackie Adelfio pitched the seventh to pick up her first career save. Lauren Incorvaia drove in the game's only run with a fourth inning single that scored Amanda D'Alessio. D'Alessio ran for Reingle who reached base on a one out walk. In the championship game, MKA scored an unearned run in the sixth inning to defeat the Lancers 1-0. Jackie Adelfio struck out twelve and limited the Cougars to just three hits. Vianney, now 13-3 will face Ocean Township on May 6 in a pivotal B-North contest.

St. John Vianney advanced to its 3rd Lady Buc semi-final in four years as the Lancers defeated the Raritan Rockets 1-0 in Holmdel. Jess Vreeland scored on Tina Philburn's sacrifice fly in the home 6th with the game's only run. Jackie Adelfio fired a shut-out, striking out 16 in the two-hit effort. Vianney will meet 3rd seeded Middletown South in the tournament semi-final on May 11 at 1PM.

RAIN WASHES OUT LONG AWAITED MATCH-UP

The long anticipated match-up of #4 Middletown South and #2 St. John Vianney has been postponed after rain rendered the fields unplayable in Holmdel. No make-up date has been announced but the two teams could meet on Saturday, May 11 in the Lady Buc semi-finals. Both teams must win their upcoming quarterfinal round games. Wall visits Middletown South on Friday, May 3rd and Vianney will play host to Raritan at 3PM on Saturday, May 4th. Vianney will travel North on Sunday, May 5th as the MKA Invitational is played in Montclair.

St. John Vianney pounded six doubles in a first round Lady Buc victory over St. Rose. The 4-1 victory over the 15th seeded Roses brings Vianney to a quarterfinal match-up with B-North rival Raritan on May 4. Tricia Reingle slammed two doubles helping her own cause in picking up her second victory of the season. Jackie Adelfio contributed two doubles and Sue Gorczynski and Jess Vreeland added one double apiece. Vianney will face Middletown South in a non-divisional game on May 2nd.

Rain forced postponement of the 2002 Montclair Kimberly Academy Invitational in Montclair today. Vianney was to have played Mt. St. Dominic Academy in the opening round at 10AM. The tournament has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2002. Vianney won the MKA Invitational in 2000, defeating Mt. St. Dominic in the championship game 3-2. Vianney will meet either the host school, MKA or Blair Academy in the championship or consolation round.

St. John Vianney rolled along in B-North with wins over Matawan and Long Branch this week. With the victories, the Lancers move to 9-2 overall on the year which includes a perfect 7-0 in the division. Vianney is currently ranked 2nd in the Shore Conference and 9th in New Jersey by Gannett.

St. John Vianney defeated arch-rival RBC 8-2 in a critical B-North contest in Holmdel. The Lancers jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead after three innings and with the victory moved to 7-2 on the season. Lauren Incorvaia was 3 for 4 at the plate including a two-out, bases loaded double that scored three runs in a five-run third. Candice Ruffler and Tina Philburn added two hits apiece with an RBI. Vianney will face Long Branch on April 22 in another B-North match-up.

St. John Vianney ended its losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Raritan. The Rockets had been undefeated in B-North action, including a 2-0 victory over Red Bank Catholic. Suzanne Gorczynski paced the Lancers with two hits, both doubles while Amanda D'Alessio recorded the first hit of her high school career. Jackie Adelfio scattered two hits in picking up her fifth win of the season. Vianney will face arch-rival Red Bank Catholic on Wednesday, April 17th in a heated B-North match-up.

VIANNEY SEEDED SECOND IN BUC TOURNEY

St. John Vianney was rewarded for a 5-2 start by receiving the second seed in the 2002 Lady Buc Tournament. The Lancers will face the winner of #15 St. Rose and #18 Red Bank. Freehold Township, the defending Lady Buc champion was named the top seed in the 2002 edition. Middletown South, Manasquan, Ocean, Wall, Raritan and RBC are the remaining seeds. Vianney won its only Lady Buc championship in 1996 with a victory over Shore Regional. The 2002 tournament begins on April 23rd and will conclude with the championship game on Saturday, May 18th at Red Bank Regional.

Vianney softball will hit the road for a key B-North match-up with the Raritan Rockets on April 15th. Raritan shares the division lead with Vianney with a record of 2-0. The Rockets have already upset Red Bank Catholic earlier this season and have set their sights on taking control of the division with a win over the Lancers. The Lancers have lost two straight games heading into the tilt with the Rockets.

VIANNEY DROPS PAIR AT MOUNT INVITATIONAL
Vianney softball dropped a pair of decisions in action at the 2002 Mt. St. Dominic Invitational in Caldwell. The Lancers were drubbed by an 8-0 margain in the opening game by 3rd ranked Immaculate Heart Academy. In the nightcap, St. John Vianney was limited to 3 hits in a 1-0 loss to Paramus Catholic. The Paladins, losers to Vianney in the 2001 NJSIAA Parochial 'A' Championship pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh inning with a suicide squeeze to hand Vianney its second loss of the day. Vianney drops to 5-2 on the season and will face division leading Raritan in a key B-North match-up on April 15th.

VIANNEY HEADS NORTH FOR EARLY SEASON TEST
Vianney softball will put its undefeated record on the line on Saturday, April 13 as the Lancers travel to Caldwell for the Mt. St. Dominic Invitational. Vianney will face state 2nd ranked Immaculate Heart in the opening game and at 4PM, Vianney will face Paramus Catholic in a rematch of last season's NJSIAA Parochial 'A' Championship game. In the 2001 MSD Invitational, Vianney defeated Governor Livingston before downing then top-ranked IHA 1-0 in extra innings.

St. John Vianney scored a first inning run and defeated visiting Jackson 1-0 in the varsity pitching debut of freshman Tricia Reingle. Reingle scattered two hits and walked three in the shutout victory. Reingle also knocked in the game's only run with a two-out single in the first. Vianney erased a Jackson scoring rally with a double play in the sixth. Third baseman Suzanne Gorczynski fielded a Jackson sacrifice bunt attempt and threw to second baseman Jennifer Trace to record the out at 1st base. Trace fired the ball to shortstop Jaime Tupino who made a diving catch and tag to put out the runner rounding second. Vianney is now 5-0 on the season.

St. John Vianney defeated Ocean Township High School 6-0 in a B-North contest played in Ocean. The Spartans, defending B-North champions and currently ranked 2nd in the shore fell to the fifth ranked Lancers for the first time since May of 2000. Candice Ruffler's two-out single plated courtesy runner Meg McDermott with the games winning run in the second inning. McDermott ran for catcher Lauren Incorvaia who had earlier doubled. Jackie Adelfio fired her fourth consecutive shutout but allowed her first hits of the season in the victory. Vianney is currently tied for the B-North lead with the Raritan Rockets.

VIANNEY DIGS OUT WIN OVER FALCONS

Vianney scored a pair of sixth inning runs to defeat Monmouth Regional 2-0 in Holmdel. Trish Reingle and Lauren Incorvaia drove in runs with two out singles to lead the Lancer charge. Jackie Adelfio fired her third consecutive no-hitter as Vianney runs its record to 3-0. SJV will face defending B-North champion Ocean in a key divisional match-up on Wednesday, April 10.

Vianney Softball will open the 2002 campaign on Monday, April 1st with a match-up with B-North rival Matawan. Vianney, defending NJSIAA Parochial Champions will be playing the first game on the new field located at the high school. St. John Vianney, ranked 5th in the shore by the Asbury Park Press returns 7 letter-winners from the 2001 championship squad. The Lancers will face Red Bank on Wednesday and Monmouth Regional on Friday as opening week continues.
