SJV DEFEATS AHR: REACHES STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
St. John Vianney advanced to the championship game of the 2001 New Jersey Parochial 'A' Tournament with a 5-1 victory over Bishop Ahr in Delran. Ahr, ranked 4th in New Jersey by the Newark Star-Ledger was the defending South Jersey champion. Jackie Adelfio limited the Trojans to six hits and one run in the contest after Vianney exploded for four 1st-inning runs. Jaime Komar began the assault with a line drive single to center on the games opening pitch. A steal of second and a Suzanne Gorczynski walk set the stage for the first Lancer run when Jessica Vreeland's grounder to short was misplayed for an error, allowing Komar to score. One out later, Tami Coyle delivered a clutch two out double to put the Lancers up 3-0. Coyle stole third and was driven in by Candice Ruffler's single. Ruffler added a third inning RBI to give the Lancers its final run. Vianney advances to the Parochial 'A' final for the first time since 1994 and will face Paramus Catholic for the state championship on June 9th at Toms River North High School.
