Play Ball!
Monday, August 15
It's been a very successful year for VCB Teams in the post season.
Bantam A: had the best record in summer play (10-1) and went into the provincials as the number 1 seed. They made it to the crossover before succumbing 5-4 to the eventual provincial champion Ridge Meadows Royals.
Bantam AA: went 8-2 in league play, best in the West. They then went on to have a great provincial championship, dominating in the crossover (13-4) and final (9-4) to win a provincial championship! With that honour they represented BC at the Bantam AA Western Canada Championships in Morden, MB. They went 3-1 in round robin play and emerged as Western Canada Champions with a 15-4 victory.
Bantam AAA: went 33-6 in league play and went into the provincials as the number 1 seed. They went 4-0 in round robin play and survived a 7-6 crossover game. In the final game they gave up late inning runs and the final 8-5. With their second place finish they travel to Winnipeg for the Bantam AAA Western Canada Championships Aug 19-21.
Midget AA: had a successful season entering the provincial championships as one of the favourites. They made it to the crossover where they dominated the Burnaby Braves 11-1. In the championship final they had dynamic pitching from Luke Hundal and Colin Patterson defeating the Prince George Knights 10-2. With that victory they represented BC in Morden, MB at the Midget AA Western Canada Championships. Unfortunately the magic of the provincials didn't travel with them and they were unable to get to the final game, going 1-3 in round robin play.
Midget AAA: after a successful 2nd place finish in league play, they headed to the provincials as one of the provisional favourites. They went 3-0 in round robin play and defeated Richmond 10-0 in the crossover. In the final they had the lead late in the game but were unable to hang on, losing to Kamloops 11-10.
Overall this is the best showing for VCB baseball in its 15+ year history: two provinical championships, two provincial silver medals and a Western Canada Gold with the opportunity to win one more still in the balance.
Well done boys and coaches.
