                                          2009 Class AAA State Champions!!

Congratulations to the Apple Valley wrestling team for winning the 2009 Class AAA State Dual Team Championship.  Apple Valley defeated Stillwater 62-18 in the quarterfinals, Bloomington 44-27 in the semi-finals, and Albert Lea 62-6 in the finals.  This is Apple Valley's 17h overall state championship since the school's inception in 1976, 11th championship since 1997, and 4th consecutive state title.  Apple Valley also won the "mythical" individual state team tournament with 219 points, more than double the second place team.

On the individual side, Apple Valley had nine state qualifiers, eight state finalists, and again tied the state record with five state champions.  The champions were Dakota Trom (112), Matt Kelliher (119), Brandon Kingsley (125), Justin LaValle (130), and Tyler Lehman (171).  Justin and Tyler won their second consecutive individual championships.  Other placewinners were Destin McCauley (135) - 2nd, Joe Fessler (140) - 2nd, Jarret Hoeppner (145) - 2nd, and Craig Kelliher (189) - 2nd.

Congratulations to all the wrestlers who participated on all the Apple Valley teams and contributed to this year's great success!!  We would also like to thank all parents, sponsors, fans, and coaches for their continued support.

Win with Class; Lose with Dignity

This statement has been stressed by the Apple Valley wrestling program as an important pillar to the success of our program and in life overall.  In wrestling, as in life, everyone deserves to be treated with respect.  We would like to take this opportunity to emphasize to all members of the Apple Valley wresting family to respect all mat officials, opposing wrestlers, coaches and fans.

Good sportsmanship is a point of emphasis for the MSHL.  A program has been implemented whereby mat officials will rate the sportsmanship of wrestlers, coaches, and fans.  Let’s show the state of Minnesota that the Apple Valley wrestling family can win off the mat as well as on the mat!

                                 Our Philosophy...

At Apple Valley High School we believe success in wrestling, as in life, comes through thoughtful preparation and a sincere commitment to improvement through learning. Opportunities in life are at best difficult to anticipate but preparation can be a constant achievable goal. By working to learn we work to succeed. By growing as people we place ourselves in a position to seize opportunities and achieve personal goals.  There is no pretense in such a philosophy. We are what we make of ourselves and what we give of ourselves.
