The San Diego State Aztecs Softball Team will be holding clinics on Saturday and Sunday November 21st and 22nd.  The Saturday clinic is for offense and Sunday for defense.  Ages 12 and under will be from 10 am until noon and ages 13 and older will be from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm.

In an amazing day, our 10U team worked their way from being seeded 9th going into bracket play all the way to the championship game.  They played 4 games on Sunday at 8 am, 11:30 am, 1:15 pm, and the championship game at 3 pm!  They lost in the championship game against a great team.  We are proud of girls for fighting so hard all day!  Congratulations!

Buying a bat – 90% of parents who buy their daughter’s a bat get one too heavy.  Weight wise the girl should be able to hold the bat out from the body with one hand.  Lengthwise a bat set down should reach from the ground to the wrist.  Bats must be softball bats, not baseball bats.  All bats built after 2002 must have an ASA stamp or sticker on them.  There will be a minus number on bats, which is the length minus the weight.  Most bats are now -10 thru -12. 

Typical weights and lengths are:                                    

8U:  15-17oz, 26 to 29 inches long                                 

10U:  16-19oz, 27 to 30 inches long                                 

12U:  18-21oz, 29 to 31 inches long     

(Remember, the league supplies some bats to each team.)

Buying a glove – Typical sizes: 

           8U:   10 ½ -12            10U:  10 ½ -13          12U:  11 -13            

Ball sizes –

6U & 8U = 10 in.        10U = 11 in.               12U = 12 in.

  It is recommended each girl has their own batting helmet with a chin strap and face guard. Face guards and chin straps are mandatory. Each player must wear cleats (soccer cleats are ok) and either softball shorts or pants. Sliding shorts and knee pads are highly recommended.   Valley Mesa will supply your uniform shirt, hat and socks.
