Valley Mesa Girls Fastpitch is a girls youth softball league dedicated to the growth and development of young ladies, ages 4 1/2 to 14 across La Mesa, Spring Valley, and the surrounding areas.  Our program teaches young girls how to work as part of team while having a great time learning the sport of softball.  They develop self esteem and self confidence while developing life long friendships through softball.

Due to the pending rain storm, we have postponed opening day.  We are looking at dates for rescheduling activities.  Due to the extensive travel of the upper age divisions, it seems likely that we will be rescheduling activities on a Sunday.

For those of you that know and played softball with Isabella and Olivia Tavernelli, we would like give our deepest condolences to the Tavernelli family.  Their mom, Lory, passed away this past Wednesday.  The following obituary is from the Union-Tribune:

NAGEM-TAVERNELLI, LORY ANN Lory was born on July 14, 1963, at Mercy Hospital in San Diego to Mike and Eloise Nagem. She passed away peacefully, on February 17, 2010, from Pancreatic Cancer after a courageous battle fought with dignity and grace. Lory attended Humboldt and San Diego State University, where she received her degree in geography. She was employed as a Land Use Planner for the San Diego County Department of Planning and Land Use for 21 years. She enjoyed gardening, hiking, fishing, traveling, birding, baking, Harry Potter and most of all, spending time with her family. Lory is survived by her husband, Brent, daughters, Isabella and Olivia, and siblings, Cyriana Nagem-Solomon, Kim Giordano, and Michael Nagem. Often called "Auntie Lory" she was a beautiful woman with a gorgeous smile, warm heart, and someone you could always count on. Team mom, Girl Scout leader, school volunteer, soccer coach, Scrabble expert, and Jeopardy champion. Lory was the mom called upon when 36 cupcakes were needed the next day. She touched the lives of many, and truly embodied the meaning of family, wife, mother, sister, friend and community. She will be missed by all. A Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Santa Sophia Catholic Church in Casa De Oro, with a reception immediately following. Hello Valley Mesa players and parents.

 Opening day is Saturday, Feb 27.  Please arrive in uniform at 8:45 am.  Please bring your team banner.  There will be a banner contest, and team pictures will be taken.  

Pictures begin at 9:45 am, a schedule will be provided. 

The 6U schedule is posted and has been emailed to managers.

Just click the Schedule link on  the left side of the screen.  Then select your division and then your team name.  The date, time, opponent, and location are all listed.  Home team is the first team listed, the visiting team is the second team listed.

6U's, your schedule will be completed shortly.

We have room for upto 4 more girls in the 8 and under division.  These slots will be assigned on a first come first served basis.  Please contact us at valleymesa@cox.net.

Weather permitting, we will be having a meet and greet for all 6U players.  we will also be running a basic skills clinic.

Saturday, Jan 30 10 am to Noon.  Have the girls bring cleats, gloves, and any other equipment they may have.  Email the league (or call) with questions.

Any late registrations should contact the league via email (valleymesa@cox.net).  You will be put on a waiting list and assigned to teams on a 1st come 1st served basis.

It looks like the rain may hold off on saturday, but the fields are going to be very wet.  We will definitley be taking registrations at the Snack Bar.  Tyrouts will not be held, the field is far too muddy.

If you are interested in coaching or managing an 8U squad.   It is an excellent opportunity to spend time with your daughter and to help a bunch of little girls grow as people and athletes. 

 At this level, teaching the basics of catching, throwing, hitting and running are the most important aspects of the job.  

No experience necessary, just enthusiasm and patience.
