Benji Places Goes All Out at State!

Benji Preciado placed 26th at the State Meet running a very aggressive race and really going for it! He ran most of the race between 14th and 18th place before getting out kicked by a pack of runners near the finish line. It was a brave effort and worthy of a last high school cross country meet for Benji!

He was joined by teammates, Cristian Aviles, Willie Rodriguez and William Garcia.  Many family and friends made the trip and were rewarded by an exciting race and beautiful fall weather!

Benji Qualifies for STATE!

Congratulations to Benji Preciado who placed 10th at the CIF Finals and qualifies for the State Meet held Saturday, November 26th in Fresno! The team finished a disappointing 13th of the 16 teams but the race was not without highlights.

Benji was a highlight as he did not feel his best but did what he needed to help the team and secure a spot to the State Meet. William Garcia ran his heart out to finish as our #2 runner. It was a breakthrough race as he had to run hard without being in front as he had been throughout the season as a top JV runner. Arthur Sunga moved up nicely and gained valuable experience for next season. Willie Rodriguez followed the race plan and got out with his team. Matthew Pope and Gio Ruiz were passing many runners at the back side of Reservoir.

This team was a hard working, dedicated group and overall the journey was fun, exciting and rewarding! These runners have grown and come so far in there racing career and the payoffs will continue into track and next season!

Good luck in Fresno, Benji!!!

Empire League Champions!!!

Cesar Miranda FS Champion!

Woo-hoo, a great day for the Tigers at the familar Craig Park for the Empire League Championships!  All levels won with panache!

Benji Preciado led the varsity to their 9th consecutive league title followed by a very solid 2nd place run by Cristian Aviles. The super pack sealed the deal by claiming 6th-10th place! Chase Brothers led the charge in 6th, followed by Matthew Pope, Willie Rodriguez, Gio Ruiz and Arthur Sunga. All 7 varsity are Empire All League! Willie and Arthur posted new PR's despite the wind and dry heat.

William Garcia won his third JV title this season and has earned a place on the varsity squad for CIF Prelims. He ran out front alone from the gun and finished with a spectacular 16:06 personal record time! The JV team was dominant in their perfect score victory as the Tigers took the first ten places! If the JV ran in the varsity race they would have placed third! Jarrett Castillo tied his best time in the runner up spot, followed by Brian Garcia, Rafael Gallardo, Eddie Diaz, Mumin Mirvokhidov, Alfredo Coria, Oscar Preciado and Walter Herrador. Oscar, Walter, Josh Sheridan, Josh Leonard and Jeremy Wan all ran PR's.

The frosh soph race was exciting as freshman, Cesar Miranda ran with confidence and a desire to win! He led a 1-5 Tiger sweep of the field and recorded a 17:00 best time. Henry Diaz, Dante Figueroa, Christian Isaac, and Austin Plascentia rounded out the top 5. Nguyen Nguyen, Dante, Brian Gatpandan, Abraham Hernandez, Neemit Shah, Gage Autry, John Mejia, Thomas Perkins, Ronil Patel, Tim Nguyen, David Hickman, and Dave Wulfe all ran inspired races to end the season with best times!

Benji, Cristian, William, Chase, Matthew, Gio, Arthur, Willie and Jarrett all move on to represent the Tigers at CIF Prelims.

Hot times at Mt SAC Invite!

Division 2 raced the infamous Mt SAC course in the heat of the afternoon this year with some fine highlights in the place of PR's!

The varsity boys placed 5th in a heat featuring 5 of the 10 ranked teams in CIF Division 2, we did beat one ranked team! This race helps us plan for CIF Prelims and get ready for racing in the afternoon. Benji Preciado and Cristian Aviles ran solid races finishing 10th and 12th, not bad for the third race in eight days! Chase Brothers, Gio Ruiz and Willie Rodriguez came in as a pack which we hope can close the gap a bit more as the season winds down. Matthew Pope and Jarrett Castillo finished as our 6th and 7th runners this week.

The JV Boys continue to win big and this week were led by three juniors: William Garcia who won the race and a cowbell :), Brian Garcia in 4th, and Eddie Garcia in 5th. Mumin Mirvokhidov (7th), Jose Gallardo (26th) and Rafael Gallardo (34th) rounded out the scoring.

The sophomores again finished 2nd this week and were led by Arthur Sunga who placed 5th, Henry Diaz, Christian Isaac, Jeremy Yang, Austin Plascentia, and Dante Figueroa. The course was shortened to just shy of two miles due to the heat for the sophomore and freshman races.

Cesar Miranda was the top freshman finisher followed by Jeremy Gibbons, Jose Hernandez, Neemit Shah, Thomas Perkins, Gage Autry, and Euro Fernandez. The freshman work very hard in practice and each race move up in overall places!

Tigers Win Empire League Challenge!

JV scored a perfect 15 again!

The Tigers won all levels of the Empire League Challenge on a beautiful fall day at Craig Park! The Varsity was led by race winner, Benji Preciado, and put 6 runners in the top ten. Cristian Aviles placed 2nd, Matt Pope 4th, Gio Ruiz 5th, Chase Brothers 8th, Jarrett Castillo 9th and Willie Rodriguez 11th. Matthew, Gio and Jarrett ran PR's!

The JV race was very impressive as well as our top 4 were all in the 16's and again scored a perfect 15! Brian Garcia won followed by Rafael Gallardo, Eddie Diaz, William Garcia, Jose Gallardo and Alfredo Coria. Rafael, Alfredo and Arturo Ramos all recorded best times!

Arthur Sunga continues to impress at the frosh soph level with a solo victory and a great time of 16:40! Henry Diaz and Cesar Miranda followed in 2nd and 3rd with Cesar running the fastest time of all freshman in the League. Jeremy Yang had a lifetime best time by about 20 seconds to place 5th followed by Josh Valtairo in 6th, Austin Plascentia in 8th and Christian Isaac in 9th. Personal best times were also run by Cesar, Gage Autry, Austin Cullen, Thomas Perkins, Ronl Patel and Tim Nguyen.

JV win with perfect score!

Many Champions at OC Championships!!

Arthur wins Sophomore Race!

There were many highlights at the Orange County Championships this year: 28 personal records, two race winners and a perfect score for the JV team!

The varsity team took 7th place in the Sweepstakes race despite our normally stalwart #1 and #2 runners, Benji and Cristian, having an off day. Matthew Pope, Gio Ruiz and Willie Rodriguez continue to improve and each recorded best times as our #3-5 guys.

The JV team was spectacular and made Valencia history with a 1-6 placing and a perfect "15" score! Brian Garcia went out with boldness and resolve, leading from start to finish and was rewarded with a season best time of 16:37. Mumin Mirvokhidov, Jarrett Castillo, Eddie Diaz, Jose Gallardo and Rafael Gallardo led the chase and finished in that order. Jose, Rafael, Oscar Preciado, Walter Herrador, Josh Sheridan, Josh Leonard and Clarence Chu all ran PR's.

The sophomore race featured Arthur Sunga chasing down an El Dorado duo using very even pacing and a strategically placed kick to win! Josh Valtairo and Austin Plascentia were very impressive placing 7th and 11th with best times as well. Christian Isaac and Dante Figueroa rounded out the scoring 5 to place 2nd in the team competition. Also running personal best times were: Manny Lopez, Nguyen Nguyen, Brian Chu, John Mejia and Nisarg Patel.

The freshman really showed how their hard work and dedication has been paying off as 9 of 10 runners ran best times! Leading the freshman team was again, Cesar Miranda and Jeremy Gibbons placing 5th and 15th. Also taking home a medal was Sammy Zhang who has been closing the gap with our leaders. Neemit Shah and Euro Hernandez rounded out the scoring five. Gage Autry, Austin Cullen, Mitchell Johnson and Zach Lembesis also ran PR's.

Super tough at the Super XC Classic!

Josh and Dante have great races at Super XC!

This was the first year for us at the Super XC Classic and the course was perfect for preparing for Orange County Championships and even Mt SAC in some ways. It was an undulating terrain, mostly on grass, with a short steep hill which runners ran twice. Times were slow because the course was tough and the weather was pretty toasty but there were other highlights instead of PR's this week!

The JV placed 2nd and looked very competitive this week with Eddie Diaz and Oscar Preciado not afraid to challenge at the front. Rafael Gallardo came on as the race progressed and Alfredo Coria and Jose Gallardo were never far from the front either. Great race to start the day with three runners in the top ten: Rafael, 4th; Eddie 5th; and Jose 8th! Jason Wan, Josh Sheridan and Jason Leonard were less than 30 seconds from their best times showing outstanding form on a tough course. Notable was Clarence Chu's PR, yes, PR by 30 seconds!!

The varsity team was missing several runners from the top 7 due to SAT testing, but this provided opportunities for others to race with the Big Boys! Matthew Pope ran as our #1 this week and did a great job, 39 seconds off his best time and finishing in 18th place. Jarrett Castillo finished as our #3 runner and was very steady throughout the race, starting aggressively and maintaining. Jarrett was 38 seconds off his best time. The juniors, William Garcia, Brian Garcia, and Willie Rodriguez and our precocious sophomore, Arthur Sunga all looked and ran a bit nervous and unsure. This experience was valuable as I hope next time they run with confidence and excitement. Mumin Mirvokhidov was our #7 and it was clear he has not gained his strength back from his recent illness, no worries, he will be back to full Mumin power soon!

The sophomores placed 2nd with the top honors going to hard working Josh Valtairo who finished in 11th place. Finishing in a tight pack was Henry Diaz in 13th, Austin Plascentia 14th, Dante Figueroa 16th and Christian Isaac was 17th. Nguyen Nguyen was only 4 seconds from a PR which was amazing given the heat and the course, look out next race for this guy! Austin was 17 seconds from his best and had a great race.

The freshman had it tough having to wait all day to race and the heat was rising with each hour. Cesar Miranda led the freshman again this week with a fine 6th place finish. Jose Hernandez followed in 16th and Jeremy Gibbons also medaled in 23rd place. Thomas Perkins ran a nice race moving up as the race progressed as did Neemit Shah and David Hickman.

Seniors win at Laguna Hills Invite!

Thunder and lightening cracked during the Laguna Hills Invite but none more striking than in the senior race!

The seniors came to race and it showed! Benji Preciado placed 2nd with a fine 15:08 and Cristian Aviles was 6th in a personal record time of 15:26. Matthew Pope, Mumin Mirvokhidov, Gio Ruiz, Chase Brothers and Jarrett Castillo were the scoring seven with Matthew, Mumin Jarrett, Jose Gallardo and Alfredo Coria recording best times! Great start to the season :)

The juniors were led by hard working Willie Rodriguez followed by William Garcia, Brian Garcia, Eddie Diaz and Rafael Gallardo. It is notable that William was struck by a car last week and had a broken arm. Despite the discomfort and extra weight, William wanted to run and help his team! Willie, Eddie, Rafael, and Oscar Preciado all ran best times.

Arthur Sunga was superb in the sophomore race improving his time from last year by almost 5 minutes! He placed an impressive 12th with a 16:56 clocking. It was obvious that Arthur missed very few training days in the summer :) Henry Diaz, Christian Isaac, Dante Figueroa and Josh Valtairo rounded out the top five. All five plus Jason Sy and Brian Chu ran personal bests!

The freshman were led by Jose Hernandez closely followed by Jeremy Gibbons, Sammy Zhang, Euro Fernandez and Gage Autry. The freshman gained valuable race experience and the next race will yeild big improvements!

Wow! 40 New Personal Best Times at Sunny Hills Invite!

Seniors place 1st at Sunny Hills!

The Tigers finished first in the senior and junior race for Large Schools, 3rd overall in team scoring and Benji Preciado set a new Valencia Sunny Hills Invite course record! All that and 40 new personal best times!

Congrats to Benji who set the new record in a time of 15:08, breaking the previous course record of 15:11 by Josh Linen set in 2006. Benji finished 3rd in a very fast and exciting race. Benji displayed great sportsmanship by directing two runners just in front of him, back on course after they had made a wrong turn.

More to come later...gotta go ride my bike... :) OK, I am back...that was fun!

Cristian Aviles is now #3 on the Top Ten list for the Sunny Hills Invite with his stellar 15:32 run and 6th place finish in the senior race. Matthew Pope improved 1:43 over his time on this course last year and set another personal best time, 16:10 as our #3 runner. Gio Ruiz also ran a PR as did Jarrett Castillo, Jose Gallardo, Alfredo Coria (dropped over 2 minutes from last years run on this course), Jason Wan and Josh Sheridan.

The juniors were led by William Garcia in a breakout run of 16:12 and joins the Top Ten list as the #5 junior! Willie Rodriguez had another great race this week, improving to 16:26. Eddie Diaz ran with confidence and broke into the 16's for the first time, 16:47! Also recording best times for the juniors were: Oscar Preciado, Arturo Ramos and Jeremy Wan.

Arthur Sunga once again led the sophomores, continuing his amazing transformation from midpack freshman into varsity contender! He placed 8th and ran a brilliant 16:27, good for #3 on the Top Ten list for sophomores. Henry Diaz joins the Top Ten list as well with a nice PR of 17:07. It was astonishing to discover that all 16 sophomores recorded all time personal records with the biggest improvements coming from Josh Valtairo, Dante Figueroa, Jeremy Yang, Raul Sanchez and Ronil Patel.

The freshman were led by Cesar Miranda finishing in 21st place and taking home a nice medal in his first race ever! His 17:49 places him on the Top Ten list as does Jeremy Gibbons and Jose Hernandez! We have a strong top three emerging :) Also running best times were: Sammy Zhang, Neemit Shah, Euro Fernandez, Austin Cullen, Mitchell Johnson, Dave Wulfe and David Hickman.
