How The West Was Won
True Grit.
The Varsity Wildcats struggled in the first set, allowing Madison West to win 25-14. But that was it. The Wildcats were not going to lay down and let their Big 8 rival walk over them. The Varsity play became stronger and more consistent and may have caught West a little surprised in the second set with the Wildcats winning 25-21.
The third set ended with Verona winning again by a 25-21 margin.
Then it became interesting in the fourth set. The lead changed hands many times and the Varsity could feel the possibility of victory. The play improved, volleys became longer, and the excitement grew as crowds became louder and every player played their hearts out.
Verona and West battled through seven set points total for both teams and Verona won a nail-biter 29-27, and the match 3-1. For Verona, the win avenged the hard-fought Regional loss to the Regents two years ago.

Code of Conduct at VAHS
Athletic Code meeting was Monday, August 18, @ 6:30 in the PAC (Performing Arts Center). Signed Code of Conduct forms are required.
The Verona Area School District, a community of learners, values and supports educational excellence. To foster the joy of learning and to prepare students for future challenges, we set rigorous academic and creative expectations for each student. Students, in turn, must show they meet these expectations.
In the Verona Area School District, organized co-curricular student activities complement and supplement the academic curriculum by enhancing learning and by contributing to the development of the whole person. Student activities exist to develop the character of students by fostering physical and emotional growth, maturity, self-esteem, identity and leadership skills. Participation in co-curricular activities provides for exploration of future career and leisure opportunities for students by fostering the discovery of skills, talents and satisfaction.
Students are given a wide range of privileges and opportunities to learn, grow, and prepare for their futures. To guide students and student-athletes there are established rules of appropriate behavior. If a violation occurs the rules are enforced. All students must sign their acknowledgment of the Student Activities Code of Conduct, which includes athletics. All students are expected to uphold the Code of Conduct.
The Student Activities Code of Conduct of the Verona Area School District is divided into two components:
- First, a GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT is established for all students who participate in any of the district’s co-curricular activities.
- Second, specific SUB-CODES OF CONDUCT are also established, containing specialized provisions in each of the following clusters of student activities: Student Government, Athletics, Fine Arts, Publications, Social/Honor Organizations and Class-Affiliated Clubs.
The entire Code of Conduct can be found in the attached handout.
