MANDATORY GAME:

QUESTION: Does a starter have to meet mandatory play before they can be substituted in the game?

ANSWER: A starter does not have to meet mandatory play before they can be substituted for in the game. The substitute for the starter must meet the mandatory play before they can be replaced, either 3 defensive outs and 1 turn at bat (13 or more players) or 6 defensive outs and 1 turn at bat (12 players or less). Once a starter is substitued for and later re-enters the game, then the starter must complete their mandatory play before they can be sustituted for again. If the starter is again substituted for, then the starter is finished for the remainder of that game. REMEMBER: A substitute may not re-enter a game after they have already been in the game as a substitute, only a starter may re-enter a game once.

SENIOR BASEBALL:

QUESTION: If a team has 10 players and uses a DH; then a player leaves the game, how is the player replaced in the lineup?

ANSWER: When the player leaves the game and a DH is used, then the DH stays in the current line-up position (can't change the batting lineup) and the player that was being DH for, assumes the player roster position, the DH goes away and is entered into the books as to the defensive position being assigned, what inning, top or bottom that the action was taken.
