January 2005 Update
I hope everyone had a nice Holiday! Due to some schedule conflicts, we are moving the Sunday MTB rides and trail runs at Pennwood to Saturday. So starting this weekend, we'll be meeting at 9am on Saturdays at Pennwood.
The Hartford Track Club has a series of winter races (almost every weekend in Jan, Feb and March) to help keep people motivated to run during the colder months. And they only cost $2 to enter. The race on Saturday January 29th is organized by some of the UTC Tri Club members so be sure to check it out! Its a hilly 5 mile loop starting at 10am from Brodie Park in New Hartford. For more info email mailto:utctriclub@jarbo.com. Or check out the HTC newsletter here for a listing of all the winter races.
Fundraise for a great cause in exchange for a training program and all
expenses paid trip to Florida to compete in the St. Anthony's Olympic
distance triathlon this spring. Join the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training www.teamintraining.org. The program includes a coach, agreat team to train with, group workouts, and a training plan to help you reach your racing goal. Whether this will be your first triathlon or your 50th this is a fun program and a great way to make a difference. Info sessions are being held all over Connecticut from now until January 20th. For dates, times and locations email rrw8@cornell.edu
Swim Clinic Follow-up
Thanks to everyone who attended the swim clinic! I hope you enjoyed it and learned something new. The handouts from the 4 clinics are on the downloads page. I'll also included an intro sheet and a list useful resources (websites/books/etc). If the participants have any feedback or anyone in the club is interested in another (repeat or new) swim clinic send an email to Raina.

Fall Update
We hope everyone is enjoying the off season! But don't relax too much... you need to do a little work to keep all the holiday feasting from sticking to your waist. Keep reading to see what the club is up to:
Saturday Morning Road Rides Suspended - The 15 degree mornings were a little chilly, time to break out the trainers and wait for the rare warm, dry winter day. We'll resume group road rides in the spring.
Sunday Morning Mtn Bike Rides and Trail Run Changes - Same day, same people but a new time and place. We are moving the ride/run to 9 am at Pennwood State Park in Bloomfield. See calendar for more details.
HEAT (Hartford Extended Area Triathletes): A new Connecticut triathlon club is starting... if you want to meet more local triathletes and find more people to train with consider joining this club. Contact Dean Bolt at DBOLT@stpaultravelers.com to join.
Learn from the Pros on November 30th - "The Elite Edge" with Pro Triathletes Jessi Stensland and Chan McRae" Jessi speaks about what's taking her to the next level, why she's already focused on Gold in Beijing, and how she ended up at a Team Mossman function in the first place! For more info on Jessi check out www.jessistensland.com. Chann McRae presents: Holistic Training - How to incorporate Base Training phase, transition intensity phase after base, intervals during season, peaking for goal races, nutrition during race, strength on bike and in the gym. Both will be at a Special November 30th event at the Westport Y at 7:30pm in the Bedford Room. A voluntary donations of $20 would be grateful to support the ITP foundation. (Show up early because parking at the Westport Y is limited).
Tidbits: We are looking for a location to hold indoor bike trainer sessions this winter. If you have any ideas or want to help organize, teach, or participate in indoor trainer sessions please email Eric. If you have any ideas for club activities, suggestions to improve the club or information you want to share please post them on the discussion boards. We'd love to hear from you!
