Saturday, January 12 Sports University Arena League Sports University in Ankeny and USSSA Iowa are pleased to bring you the SU Indoor Fastpitch League. This is the first ever Sanctioned Arena League in the Nation and it is a World Series qualifier for the Summer outdoor events! There is still time to get your 10, 12, 14, or high school team in, but you must call soon. The league starts next weekend and scheduling will start tomorrow Sunday the 13th. Call Bret Van De Pol at 515-720-8590 or 515-965-0900 ASAP to get your spot. Play in this league will not affect the rostering of any current or future player for USSSA play in 2008. Saturday, January 12 Beaverdale Competitive League & Development Leagues The Beaverdale USSSA Competitive and Recreational Leagues are back for their 2nd year and interest is growing. The Competitive League is for 10-18U teams and runs the month of April with doubleheaders every weekend on either Saturday or Sunday. This league features friendly scheduling for teams involved in other leagues or tournament play. This league offers competitive play in a league format with USSSA points and World Series berths awarded to the top 2 finishers in each division. The league also counts as one of the 3 events played in for 10-14U teams to clinch an at-large berth to the World Series. 15-18U teams only need to play in 2 events to earn an at-large berth to the World Series. Teams must play in one of their State Championship events to clich this berth and the State event counts as one of the events played. This is going to be the next great early season event in Iowa for 12-18U. This event is already drawing interest and will have an upper midwest flavor. Teams coming already include 2 teams from Minneapolis and a team from Enderlin, North Dakota just 10 short hours away! Be sure to get into this one, and meet the new teams that are coming to Iowa to play! Saturday, January 12 River City Showdown/USSSA State - Special Exception! USSSA Iowa is pleased to announce the first year of multiple State Championship events ever held in Iowa! Kicking this all of will be the 4th Annual River City Showdown in Mason City. This has been a great event in each of the first 3 years and we are working overtime to make this an even better event for 2008. This event has typically been a border war with teams from all over Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Nebraska competing in the past. Teams are allowed to play in more than 1 State Championship a year. For 2008 we are awarding the River City Showdown as the "Special Exception" from our typical qualifying procedures. Qualifying procedures for 2008 state that teams can earn an at-large berth by playing a certain number of events(3 for 10-14 & 2 for 15-18U) Every team that enters the River City Showdown/USSSA State will earn an at-large berth to the World Series of their choice! This is not a "Regional" or "Northern" type National event. This is a berth to the full blown, all out, World Series with all of the glamour and events that only a week long event can give you!
