USJ shuts out Dyer County for Region Championship

NEWBERN - Freshman Preston Overbey pitched a no-hit shutout to carry University School of Jackson past Dyer County, 9-0, Wednesday in the Region 7-AA baseball championship game.
USJ (36-5) and Dyer County play the Region 8-AA finalists in Friday's sectional. Memphis Sheffield and Memphis Westwood were rained out on Wednesday and will play today.

Overbey (9-2) missed a perfect game when he walked one and hit a batter. He struck out five.

"He was really on top of his pitches," USJ coach Brad Dyer said. "The ball was moving in and out, and he was getting ahead in the count. He really only had two bad pitches."
Overbey was also 2-for-5 at the plate. Danny Grimm was 3-5.
